The Gift of Waiting, The Joy of Receiving
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. Share on X
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
As the New Year begins, it’s common to set new goals and reflect on personal growth, and this often includes how we take care of our physical health. God’s Word reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that our bodies are “temples of the Holy Spirit.” But how often do we treat our bodies like a sacred temple? Sadly, many of us treat our bodies more like a “cheap motel”—overused, neglected, and in need of restoration.

Taking Responsibility for Our Temple
When we view our bodies as holy temples, designed to glorify God, it changes how we approach health. This isn’t about vanity or achieving the “perfect” physique. It’s about stewardship—taking responsibility for the incredible creation God has given us. One powerful way to honor this gift is simply by getting active. Physical activity isn’t just good for the body; it’s also a way to strengthen our minds and build resilience.
Start Small: Small Steps, Big Impact
For those who struggle with getting started, remember that progress begins with small steps. You don’t need to be a marathon runner or a gym enthusiast; you just need to start moving. Begin with something simple, like walking for 30 minutes each day. Over time, as your body adapts, you can introduce new challenges—maybe some strength exercises or a longer walk.
Already Active? Try Adding Variety
For those already maintaining a regular fitness routine, consider adding variation. Just as reading the same Bible verse every day would limit spiritual growth, doing the same exercise daily can limit physical improvement. Trying new activities—like adding stretching, strength training, or cardio—keeps your body engaged and challenged. This variety helps build both physical endurance and mental resilience, which benefits you in other areas of life as well.
Strengthening Body and Spirit
Physical strength, like spiritual strength, is built over time through commitment and consistency. When we take the time to care for our physical health, we’re building stamina, resilience, and mental toughness, qualities that can help us face the challenges of daily life. Plus, as we invest in our health, we experience greater energy and clarity, allowing us to serve God and others more effectively.
Make 2025 the Year of Honoring Your Temple
This New Year, let’s commit to honoring our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit. Whether you’re just beginning or already active, remember that each step toward caring for your body is an act of worship and gratitude for God’s gift. Start with small steps, keep challenging yourself, and celebrate each victory. Together, let’s make 2025 a year of growth, strength, and dedication to becoming stewards of the temple God has given us.
In all things, remember: when we strengthen our bodies, we’re strengthening our ability to live fully for Him.
