God’s provision is always better than what we try to get for ourselves.
We live in a society that focuses on self-indulgence and instant gratification, and we are constantly bombarded with messages that we deserve better and that happiness is just around the corner. However, this me, me, me mentality is a trap from the evil one, and we need to focus on glorifying God instead of satisfying ourselves.
Matthew 4:1-4 gives us an account of how Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness. It is interesting to note that the first thing the Holy Spirit did after descending upon Jesus at His baptism was to lead Him into the wilderness to be tempted. The desert was thought to be the place of demonic activity, and Satan was working overtime to keep Jesus from doing the work He was called to do. However, Jesus did not succumb to Satan’s attempts.
Jesus had supernatural endurance, and He was being tempted when He was at His weakest. After 40 days without food, the temptation to eat anything would have been incredible. Satan was trying to get Jesus to turn from what He was called to do and take care of Himself instead. However, Jesus had the power, authority, and right to let us suffer as we deserved. He was being tempted to seize the crown without the cross, and we know that is not possible. Jesus responded with “It is written,” and we need more of that in our lives. We need Scripture to cling to when the attacks of the evil one come, and they will come.
Deuteronomy 8:2-5 gives us an account of the Israelites’ failure to believe God, which led them to wander the desert for 40 years until the disobedient generation died out. God’s discipline is always in hopes of restoring our relationship with Him, and this often means we have to humble ourselves and remember who the one true God is. We need to remember that God is always providing for us, and we should trust Him to provide for our needs.
In conclusion, God’s provision is always better than what we try to get for ourselves. We should focus on glorifying God instead of satisfying ourselves, and we should trust Him to provide for our needs. We need to remember that God’s discipline is always in hopes of restoring our relationship with Him, and we should humble ourselves and remember who the one true God is. We should also cling to Scripture when the attacks of the evil one come, and we should remember that Jesus responded to Satan’s temptations with “It is written.”
