The Certainty of Faith
“I am convinced.” These powerful words from the apostle Paul signify an unshakable faith that we, as believers, can strive to embrace. As leaders, we often find ourselves in situations where we must convince others, justify decisions, and defend our positions. But amidst life’s uncertainties, the love of Christ serves as our unchanging foundation. Paul had no reservations about the saving work of Jesus on the cross. As leaders, our convictions can shape our character and influence our decision-making. A solid belief in God’s unwavering love allows us to lead with confidence.
No More Excuses
Paul goes on to list a series of potential excuses that, under God’s love, become invalid. Death, life, angels, principalities, the present, the future, powers, height, depth, and any created thing—all are covered by Christ’s redeeming love. The world is proficient in crafting excuses for life’s challenges and adversities. It’s too difficult, it’s not fair, I can’t do it—these excuses have become societal norms. Paul’s message here encourages us to cast aside excuses and instead walk in the confidence of God’s love.
In the previous verse, Romans 8:37, we learn that victory awaits the faithful believer. With God by our side, every moment and every circumstance is covered by His love. From daily tasks to long-term goals, God is intricately present. As leaders, our decisions and plans are within the scope of His love. This assurance gives us the confidence to lead, to face life’s hardships, and to confront the challenges of leadership.
The heart of Paul’s message lies in the unbreakable connection between God’s love and His children. Through surrendering to Jesus’ lordship, our lives are forever changed. Death loses its sting, moments of self-sufficiency are met with His presence, spiritual forces cannot deceive us, our present circumstances cannot alter our eternal relationship, and the future is secure. Nothing, be it a force, a power, or anything created outside of God, can ever break the bond between us and His love.
The ultimate payment for our salvation was made on the cross by Jesus. The mistakes of our past, the lies from the evil one, the doubts and fears, they all fade in the radiance of God’s unwavering love. We can stand firm, knowing that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
As leaders, we can draw profound confidence from Romans 8:38-39. In a world filled with uncertainties and excuses, we have the privilege of being convinced of God’s unfailing love. We can boldly face every challenge, knowing that nothing, absolutely nothing, can sever the unbreakable bond between us and our Creator. Our conviction in this truth is the foundation upon which we lead, live, and find the strength to overcome life’s obstacles.
