In this episode:
Everyone has heard the saying it is better to give than to receive.
Have you ever considered that we are more blessed when we give than when we receive? But why more blessed?
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Click To TweetActs 20:35
I showed you that by this kind of hard work, we must help the weak remembering the words, the Lord Jesus himself. It is more blessed to give than to receive gas. That verse means so much to so many of us. I know, because we all heard that that last part right. Is better to give than receive, but we’re going to be looking at this week.
The more part is more blessed. Okay. Specifically, we’re going to be digging into the topic of abundance and having that abundance mindset. Okay. So now, first of all, before we get into too far into our spiritual kickoff, Where is the book of acts gas. We need to know our Bible. Okay. So very simply go to the new Testament.
Okay. And it starts with Matthew, right? Yeah. Matthew, mark, Luke, and John, that’s your four gospels. As soon as the, after John you’ll find the book of acts. And guys, I know some of you guys, you get all this stuff, you know, it, the look we were not all at the same place. But we need to know our Bible. We need to know how to have it too, to find the books and the chapters so that we can understand and go to God’s word and dig into it when we need to.
So there you go. Nowhere where your acts is. That’s the one, when we’re talking about abundance, I wanted to do a definition of abundance right out the gate. What is the world definition of abundance? I did OJ to G go to Google, right? And I looked up abundance and say, see what it said? And it said, I very large quantities.
Wow, that that’s very insightful right. Of may have very large quantity, but just think of, for me, I think of abundance. I think of that overflow, having more, having just more than you ever need. That’s abundance and that’s, and Jesus is talking about here. It is more blessed to give Nancy a receipt. That’s pretty cool.
So I want to give you a little context about where it is, you know, what’s going on around this verse to understand the meaning. So, this is actually part of a, of an end of a meeting that the apostle Paul was having with the elders at Ephesus. Okay. That we’ve all heard the book of Ephesians. Okay. Well, he’s talking to, to the, to the elders at emphasis.
Okay. And he was on his way to Jerusalem and on his way, he wanted to give him some mornings, you know, cause he was headed for trial and, and he was going to be facing a trial and he wasn’t sure what was going to happen here, you know? And actually this was the last time he saw them before he was in prison, which is happens to be where he wrote the book of Ephesians.
Okay. So basically he was telling them that it was up to them to carry. Right. He had shown him what to do. He had gave him instructional how to live, right. And how to stay focused on building the kingdom. And, but it was time for those guys to step in. Okay. And then as we think about this first, let’s go back to Matthew and I wanted to go back to Matthew chapter five where the, the, the attitudes and that’s where Jesus is talking us.
What blessed look like. Okay. Here just a couple bless on a poor spirit, but there is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed, blessed are those who mourn for they shall be. Bless it out, a gentle should they, they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Should they, we call satisfied, bless it on a merciful, but they’ve received.
Mercy. Blessed are pure in heart for, they shall see God blessed are the peacemakers for, they shall be called the sons of God. Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. And bless it. Are you, you and people insult you and persecute you and falsely say all things that get evil against you because.
So there’s there. He tells us about all the, bless it, our right. Bless it. Our blessed at our bless it are. And what did he say right here? And in acts 2035, it is more blessed to give than to receive. And I just thought that was just a beautiful piece of tie back. He’s talking about the blessings and he’s telling us it’s even more blessed.
Well, we actually give out our hearts then Andrew receipt. So as interesting factor while I was looking at it, this more blessed. There Paul says, Jesus said it’s not actually in the new Testament gospels. Okay. But we also know when we know that he said it. Why? Because this is the word of God. And we know Jesus said these things, because this is a living, breathing word of God that we have in our hands, but why more blessed than receive to give them received rather.
Okay. Three things I want you to think about, okay. Gas. We should be thankful when we can help others. We should be thankful when seriously. More blessed when we’re able to help to, to bless others and care for them. We should be that, that puts us in a position to where we should the gift banks that we can actually do that.
There are so many people out there struggling. And the fact that you’re in a position where you can even bless someone, should automatically bring up a thanks, a Thanksgiving to just knowing that, Hey, you know what Lord you have blessed me. Number two, it promotes happiness. When we give, think about how you feel when you give to someone and how it makes you feel, and when you really give it the right way, right?
And you, you, you’re giving out love and you’re not looking for anything in return. There is something about that that impacts us at the soul level. And that’s why Jesus is telling us, telling us that is more blessed to give than to receive. And in thirdly, it’s a blessing and a reward that’s going to come with.
Okay, this think about it. We’re building up the heavenly treasures, right? The heavily ones, not the earthly earthly ones. So it’s the blessing. That’s going to be coming in the future to reward. And, you know, we want to just always have that in mind. You know, we’re building up things on and in heaven, not on earth.
So there you go, guys. There’s three things to be thankful, promotes happiness, and then the reward is bits to come. Okay. So to have an abundant mind, It’s all about having the right perspective, round giving and ownership. When you get those two perspectives, right? Gas is a game changer. And think about what Jesus did.
He gave it all and we are his ultimate benefactors, but his giving, we are to model that our behavior to be just like him and strive to be Christ-like every. And a great way to do that guys is to start, is to start with giving star giving. And this got opened up from there. The gas, the day is a special day it’s Memorial day.
And we want to honor, I did lie with Dennis. We were, were very much pro military, everything that the military and the people that, that protect our country and it, but ultimate today is about the people who paid that ultimate sacrifice. We just want it to just, just say thank you to their families. You know, there’s so many people that this day’s a tough day.
It’s a hard day because people aren’t at the table that they should be. So guys take a few times. I know probably everybody is out barbecuing and doing stuff outside, but look, don’t forget what today is all about. Okay. Send a text or give a phone call to someone out there who, you know, may be hurting today.
Take an intentional act today to be that. To be that helper and community to go ahead and step out and show others that you care. Remember, it’s more blessed to give, so give some love today. Okay. Now go on. I want you to come back on for Wednesday’s episode, when we dig in deep into an abundant mindset and what that looks like, guys, we’ve got some really great things we’ll be talking about.
We’ll be uncovering, gonna be unpacking for you to help you and your. I had a question every week. What I want you guys thinking about, do you give to serve others or yourself? In this Spiritual Kick Off Chris unpacks areas to consider from this popular scripture in Acts. He points out that:
- We should be thankful when we can help others
- It promotes our happiness when we give (think about how you feel when you truly give out of love).
- It is a blessing in the reward that is to come one day. Not just peace on earth but heavenly blessings.
As we prepare this week to dive deep into an abundant mindset we need the proper perspective of giving and ownership. Jesus gave it all and we are the ultimate benefactors for His giving.
