In this episode:
What does it mean to show genuine sincerity, and how can you recognize it in others?
Join me in this heartfelt episode of The Lion Within Us, as I share my inspiring encounter with the Robertson family, a true embodiment of hospitality and sincerity. We explore how to apply the scripture from Romans 12:9-10 to our lives and delve into the world of rucking – a fantastic way to connect with nature, improve your posture, and squeeze in some exercise.
I wanted to share about the sincerity of the Robertson family, their genuineness and how open they were to receive this little dude from North Carolina into their home with open arms and amazing hospitality. You just you don't see… Click To Tweet Chris Grainger
Welcome to The Lion Within Us. A podcast sermon Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I’m your host, chris Granger. Let’s jump in. All right, guys, it’s fun. Friday time, let’s get into it. We’ll go too far, though.
Scripture, scripture, scripture. That’s right Now. This week’s men in Romans okay, romans, chapter 12, two verses okay, verses nine and 10, as you kind of got a couple of these two together. Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil, sling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another, want another above yourselves. Guys, those two verses if you just walk that out like five things right there, you pick two of them. Now it’s your challenge earlier this week Pick two of them and you walk this stuff out. You’re going to see how the Holy Spirit moves in your life. So really, go back and check that spiritual kickoff out. Spent a lot of time unpacking those two verses. Hopefully you guys enjoyed that And you can figure and find ways to simplify and apply it to your walk.
Okay, now, you missed our episode on Wednesday. It was a little bit different. Why? Because there are some things that happened that I felt like it was worth sharing, so I was able to be invited to go meet the Robertson family out of Louisiana. I met the whole crew Phil, miss Kay, i was just spending a lot of time with Al met Jace, met Si, some of the grandkids. It was just really wonderful to meet So many people the general manager, butt commander It was just a trip of a lifetime And I wanted to not just share about oh, i got to go on this cool trip. No, i want to share about the sincerity of that family, the genuineness and how open they were to receive this little dude from North Carolina into their sterilized and with open arms and hospitality that you just you don’t see anymore. So hopefully, you guys enjoyed that episode.
Let me know if you did. We’ve got some things for you to follow us over on Facebook or Instagram or our YouTube channel. We’re going to try to put some stuff out there on some pictures and things like that of the time that I was able to spend with them, so connecting with some of the socials and things like that. You search for the line within us. You should be able to find anything there. Okay, so that’s really where we’re at. I searched for the line with this. Whatever platform you’re on We’re even on LinkedIn Try to do all the stuff in all the places. Although it’s not something that I’m great at, i do try to put stuff out that serves people. I guess it’s a little bit of encouragement to the dark feeds that we get. Bring it a little bit of light.
Okay, now let’s get into Fun Friday time. I know we got some. I got some good tips for you, got a book for you, got some bad jokes Typical Fun Friday stuff, but looking forward to sharing that with you today. So for our new listeners, we have our health tip, our wealth tip and our self tips. Our health is to how do we, how do we, take care of our minds and our bodies? Our wealth is about career and finances itself as being better husbands and dads. That’s really worth talking about. Okay, let’s go ahead for the hell tip.
This is something I recently started doing and I absolutely fell in love with it, and this is something that anybody can do. It’s called rucking, okay, so what You can start off slow. Basically, all this is is you have a weighted backpack and you go walk, okay, and you start slow. You add some small weight, maybe just a boot bag, or maybe if you’re not even walking or anything. Just start with walking. Okay, then add the boot bag And then build yourself up. Right now, my ruck. What I put in my rucksack is I have a 45 pound weight. I usually walk I don’t know three to four miles at a time. It usually takes about an hour or something like that, but it’s a really great workout. It’s also a good way to blow impact, so it’s not as impactful when your joints is running, it’s just. It’s great. For me, what I enjoy most about rucking is just getting in nature and just getting outside, getting in that sunshine, walking through the woods, things like that.
But start slow. Start slow because this could be a very good alternative for you. So you don’t have to just start off with, like you know, a couch to 5K. Maybe that’s what you wanna do Fine, but if you want an alternative where you can, maybe not, you don’t wanna really start pounding the pavement, running and things like that Rucking is a great way. It improves your posture, kind of pulls you back, right. So a couple of tips on rucking If you find that you’re enjoying it, you need to invest in a good bag.
okay, because that sack when you’re back, i’m telling you it makes a big difference. So you’re not gonna wanna do this for a book bag like you had in high school. That’s probably not gonna work. You start adding 30, 45 pounds or so. I know some guys, like one of the dudes I worked with, grayson he’ll put 75 pounds in that. He’s a beast, though. Look, that’s a lot of weight. So you need to have a good sack that you’re ready to carry, because that thing makes all the difference in the world. I will tell you I went with the Go Ruck brand and I know you’re paying a lot for the brand, but it is very durable. It’s very heavy. It’s heavy weight and it can hold the weight that you put in it. You don’t have to worry about the weight shifting around or falling and things like that. So there’s your health tip. Now your wealth tip.
I want you to remind you guys insurance needs change with your seasons of life. Okay, so you don’t wanna be insurance poor or rich, okay? So having clear goals around the purpose of insurance for those different seasons of life will help you make these informed decisions. A great way to really lean into it is with term life policies. I’m pretty big on term life. They’re great options. They usually are pretty cheap and you can add those in those high risk years.
Let’s say what are your high risk years? A lot of times you’re high risk years when you have those dependents. So if you have little ones, you have little kids that are relying on you and they’re relying on your income. Those are high risk years. Okay, now let’s just say you just got married and it’s just you and your wife. You’re probably okay with a smaller amount of insurance at that moment. But when things start changing and it’s risk changes in your life, evaluate your insurance needs. Okay, that is good stewardship And it’s something we don’t think about often enough, cause if you have a child out there, if you have a wife, or, let’s say, you’re the sole breadwinner and maybe your spouse doesn’t work, if you want to provide for them, you have to take that consideration.
Let’s also consider this Let’s say you work, your wife works from home, she’s a homemaker or takes care of kids. Even a lot of times that can be reversed. It doesn’t matter. There is value in that. Do not miss that. Don’t say well, she doesn’t work, so I don’t need any health insurance or life insurance. That’s ridiculous. Are you kidding me? What’s something that happens to her.
You’re going to have expenses immediate expenses that you’re not going to be able to take care of, you’re not going to be able to handle. You need to make sure you’re looking at things holistically for guys across all angles, and be open. If you need to have insurance, if you have insurance needs, take care of it now. If you can get 20-year policies, guys, you can get relatively cheap. Take the action and move that insurance where you need it. At some point in life you may not need to have those insurance needs. Those are big policies. Maybe you just need smaller policies just for your final expenses and things like that. Be open and be intentional about insurance and the changing needs For your self-tip.
This is one I’ve actually got from one of my groups called Distage. They talk about this a lot. Instead of a confrontation, turn it into a care frontation. That is pretty cool. If you take care for those that you are in alignment with, it makes it so much easier to resolve the issues. I’m just telling you. If you actually care about them, it makes it easier. If you have something to learn right here, guys, we all do by slowing down and connecting with people before we start jumping directly into confrontation mode. I’m just telling you, if you go straight to confrontation mode, you probably not going to be able to resolve it as efficiently or smoothly as you would if you actually care about the people that you’re working with or the people who are not in alignment. A lot of times, the way I do this is with questions. Help me understand. I’m not saying help me understand it. No, seriously, help me understand.
I want to have a better understanding of your view on this position. Can you help me here? If you say it like that, i’m telling you, fellas, it’s going to open up opportunities for you to have a conversation that is going to be so much more fruitful than well. I don’t understand. What in the world are you trying to tell me? That is not going to serve anyone.
Don’t run away from a confrontation. Instead, turn it into a care frontation and actually care for the individuals. Don’t just be trying to ramrod your point home. No, listen, because you know what. No-transcript. Just think about that for a second. Your position may not be accurate. Be open and willing enough to take that feedback, to listen, learn and adjust. All right, so that’s three good ways. Right there There’s your health, wealth and self-tips. That health tip I want you to try out rucking guys. I’m telling you, try out that and see how you like it. This is a great way to kind of get you in nature, get you connected with our creator, but it has a little bit more intensity than just a standard walk. Wealth tip I want you to evaluate your insurance needs. Don’t be blind to this. Evaluate them And your self-tip turn that confrontation into a care frontation. And so that I know it’s a play on words there, fellas, but I’m telling you it’s a great way that you can, as a leader, move forward and to do the work that guys called you to do.
Now, the book of this week I don’t have a copy here with me, but it was there in the studio with Phil. His last book was actually called Uncanceled by Phil Robertson. I want to highlight that one, as he quoted some scripture in an interview and that basically hit everything, hit the fan And he knew what he had to do, what was gonna happen. They were trying to cancel him. He was a target of that cancel culture before. Cancel culture was school right And he’s since.
Then. He started publicly speaking out against shaming, against those campaigns that try to get Bible believers fired in tactics that are really trying to wreak havoc on our society. So this is a pretty divided country, as you guys well know, and so many people are trying to condemn us or silence the Christians out there. And Phil is very clear. He’s calling us to carry the flag of the unifying message of Jesus Christ. So I’m telling you, this is an incredible book. Phil puts a ton of effort in it. He’s actually writing his last one. He’s finished writing it now. That should come out in the spring of next year.
We were talking about that. The new movie, the Blind, is coming out in September of this year. So, guys, i’m telling you, these are great opportunities to go and see the gospel in action. This is again showing Phil’s years before turning to Christ, but just showing how God moved in his life and how he was obedient to that. And the books, these resources like this Uncancelled Right Here, guys, it makes a big difference because this will give you another opportunity to learn from a believer to face this persecution of what it’s like walking with Christ. I’m just telling you, this cancel culture is real. So I highly encourage this book. Any of the books from the Robertsons are always great. You guys know how big I am on them and their family. So go check that one out. If you wanna get a copy, check out the show notes. We’ll have a link for you there.
Okay, there are dad jokes this week. Dad joke number one my geography teacher asked if I could name a country with no R in it. I said no way. So there you go. That’s number one. Number two imagine if the US switched from pounds to kilograms. It would be mass confusion. So I don’t know. The engineer me guy likes. Number two, but number one my geography teacher asked if I could name a country with no R in it. I said no way. And number two imagine if the US switched from pounds to kilograms. It would be mass confusion. So there you go, fellas, let me know which one counts. Remember which one you like, rather, remember eye rolls. do count size, count anything that you get where you just get a little huff. That’s a good thing when it comes to a dad joke. All right.
Now your question this week I want you to think about is what signs or indicators help you recognize genuine sincerity. We know what they are right. And then I flipped that question on you, if you remember. How do you know are you being sincere with others And how do they know that? Can they recognize that in your walk? So think about that, fellas, as you move forward, because I’m telling you, sincerity is something we don’t have enough of in this world. Too many people are fake and there’s out there that just go through the motions. When you find people that are genuinely sincere, it should draw you to them. There should be a natural pool that want to be around those people. So I’m just telling you, be that type of individual, okay.
So, guys, go check out all our resources at the Lionthinus. You know we have hats, we have shirts, we have all sorts of ways, our never-retreat shirts. I was able to share a lot of those with the Robertsons, so you may see some of them wearing them. At some point You will get your own never-retreat shirt. It’s a wonderful shirt. These things are well-made. Go check it out there, guys, at the Lionthinus, you can head over to our store, check that out.
If you want to be a donor to support the show, guys, i’m telling you that would be incredible. If we have monthly donors, you can be a one-time donor, whatever. Well, it’s best for you If you want to look at our spiritual kickoff, we have that daily spiritual kickoff community guys, money through Friday reading God’s word. If you’re not, can’t make it live. You can still join, you can still come. And what we do we put those videos in the community each and every day. You’ll be able to access it directly from your phone or you join our community directly.
That is where all the action happens, guys. We have our mastermind groups, we have our live events, we have all the our ask me anythings. There’s pretty much something happening every day of the week. So you get to pick and choose what you come to, what you want to start focusing on, and that’s where we try to help people grow as leaders. And then the last thing is the leadership coalition. So if you’re in business and you want to actually improve and start taking this thing called God’s word and bringing it to your work, this is what we’re teaching, this is what we’re helping men do.
So go, check that out. You can apply today. We start that up in September, so time is of the essence to check it out there. Get your application in now, fellas. If you have a couple of people within your organization that you’d like to do this with. Bring it up to HR, shoot it to them If they have questions. Support at The Lion with Endus would be glad to answer any of those questions, okay, so get after it, have a great one, come back. We’ve got some more episodes planned for you next week.
We’ve been wide open, rock and roll and thank you for all the prayers that you lift up for The Lion with Endless Guys. I’m telling you this is work that we feel like is meaningful. This is work that is hard. There’s a lot of spiritual warfare at work against us, but we’re just gonna keep leaning into the heart, just gonna keep being obedient to the Holy Spirit, just gonna keep sharing the goodness of the gospel with others each and every week and try to give you guys something every week outside of your church. You gotta be plugging with your church body, but I’d like to tell you all the time we are an excellent supplement to come alongside to help you and your church. So if you need help there I do a lot of speaking and do things like that Go check out our speaking page.

So get after it, fellas. Have a great day. Thanks for hanging out with us this week. Thanks for listening to the show, because there’s so many other podcasts you can listen to, but you listen to us.
