A Confident Expectation in God’s Promises
When I look at my prayer life in the past quite often all I was doing was treating God as if He were some cosmic genie in the bottle. There were people in my life that would say center their focus on name it and claim it type of thinking. That never settled well, for good reason and recently a new definition for hope began to take root that is worth sharing.
What if instead of the blind optimism that often is correlated with hope that instead we redirect it as a confident expectation in the promises of God. Now that dog will hunt!
The reality is we can’t get too hung up on our current circumstances, good or bad, as they change like the wind. Confident expectations in God on the other hand is a firm foundation that we can cling to in all seasons of life.
That’s the type of hope that transforms us and is how even in the darkest of seasons we have the ability to find true joy. I’ve shared many times how the experience of losing our daughter was void of any semblance of happiness yet in the quietness of the hospital we were able to experience joy in a truly meaningful way.
Because hope in God is not rooted in fleeting emotions or circumstances—it’s anchored in His unchanging character. When everything around you feels uncertain, when the storm rages and the pain seems unbearable, His promises remain steadfast.
This kind of hope doesn’t dismiss grief or ignore hardship. It acknowledges the struggle but refuses to be defined by it. It’s the assurance that God is present, working even in the waiting, even in the suffering.
So if you’re walking through a season of pain, hold on to hope. You are not forgotten, and you are not alone. God sees you, loves you, and has a plan far greater than anything you can comprehend right now. Lean into Him. Trust His promises. And know that the hope found in Him will never fail.
