“I Didn’t Know You Were a Christian”

Living Your Faith Beyond Sunday

Years ago those seven words rocked me to my core. It happened at a meeting with an associate that we had always done business with. We met on a regular basis and even broke bread from time to time. 

In this instance there was a screensaver on my computer that made a Biblical reference and when he saw that he perked up, smiled and said “Chris, I didn’t know you were a Christian”. It led to a great conversation and yet his innocent comment spoke volumes of how little my faith had become part of my career. 

Much later I was introduced to the idea that all believers are actually ambassadors for Christ. That hit home and yet I knew that if that were true then there was a lot of ground to make up. I would often embrace the idea of being an ambassador on Sunday yet the notion of bringing that mindset into meetings on Tuesday afternoons seemed foreign. 

Perhaps you can relate – being prayed up and surrounded by others sharing the same worldview is a great way to get encouraged on Sunday but the rubber meets the road when we go into the world. If you have never considered yourself an ambassador for Christ hopefully this is the charge you need to look in the mirror and try to see the reflection as God does. 

Today, I encourage you to find a small practical way to bring your faith into your profession. You never know how one small step of obedience can open the floodgates to what God has in store for your journey.
