“If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time.”

Zig Ziglar said that, and I find it incredibly relatable.

For a long stretch of my career, that was me—showing up, grinding it out, but aiming at nothing.

In 2018, everything shifted. The division I led was shut down, and within weeks, the purpose I’d built my work around was gone. I was transferred, but inside there was a massive hole. Work felt empty, directionless.

Then came a prompting from the Holy Spirit. I took a risk, stepped into the unknown, and began pursuing what I sensed God was calling me toward. That’s when the seeds of The Lion Within Us were planted. It was terrifying at first, but once the wheels started turning, something I’d been missing for far too long returned—vision.

A man without vision drifts. And drifting men are easy prey for the enemy. The pace of life only makes it worse—deadlines, errands, emails, obligations. We stay in motion, but with no direction. Activity without clarity. Movement without mission.

That’s why vision matters. Vague goals like “be a better husband” or “lead better at work” don’t cut it. We need God-given clarity: What has He called you to build? What kind of legacy are you shaping?

Here’s what I’ve learned along the way.  My wife doesn’t need perfection—she needs direction. My kids don’t need the world’s definition of success—they need me holding a compass. My workplace doesn’t need another manager—it needs a leader anchored in conviction.

At the end of the day leadership is stewardship and vision is the compass. Without it, we drift. With it, we lead.

So, brother, stop aiming at nothing. Seek God’s vision. Lead with clarity. Period.
