It’s a phrase I used to say way too often—and not follow through.
It wasn’t intentional or malicious. But the reality is, even the most heartfelt prayer requests often became fleeting thoughts. Life gets busy, distractions pile up, and things fall through the cracks.
Writing prayer requests down helped for a while… but even those notes got misplaced. I knew something had to change if I really wanted to show up for others the way God was calling me to.
So a few years ago, I tried something different—a small shift that made a big difference. When someone would say, “Can you pray for…” or “Please keep me in your prayers,” instead of responding with “I’ll be praying for you,” I began to ask:
“Can I pray for you right now?”
At first, it felt awkward. But over time, it became natural—and powerful. Some of the most impactful moments I’ve had in prayer have happened right then and there. Sometimes I’ll put a hand on their shoulder, sometimes not. The point is to show them they’re seen, heard, and loved right now.
Let’s face it: the world is busy, loud, and distracted. Taking a moment to pray with someone in real time cuts through all of that noise. It reminds people they matter—not just to you, but to God.
So here’s your challenge for today:
Ask one person, “How can I be praying for you?”
Then follow it with, “Can I pray for that right now?”
They might say no—and that’s okay.
But if they say yes… go to battle on their behalf. Bring it straight to the King of Kings.
You’ve got this—and I’m cheering you on every step of the way.
