As summer winds down, my mind drifts to the beach.
There’s something healing about the rhythm of the waves, warm sand, and a steady breeze. But let’s be real—the beach is also a battlefield.
Temptation is everywhere. You don’t have to go looking for it. It finds you.
This year, during a simple beach day with my family—sandcastles, boogie boards (yes, Dad still has it)—a bridesmaid party set up right in front of us. Matching two-piece swimsuits. Mid-20s. And there I was, sitting next to my bride, suddenly fighting the urge to look twice.
Even my two-year-old son was curious about what was unfolding in front of him. It starts young, fellas. The world doesn’t wait.
In that moment, I had to redirect my eyes and my thoughts—back to my wife, my covenant, my calling. That ring on my finger isn’t just jewelry; it’s a reminder of a vow I made before God. Rebekah is the only woman I will ever pursue, love, and give myself to. That wasn’t just wedding-day talk—I meant it, and I still mean it.
Truth is, I haven’t wrestled with desire for another woman since marrying her. That wasn’t always the case in previous relationships. The difference? We did it God’s way—from day one to the altar. And when you build on His foundation, He gives you the strength to stand. Yes, I could see those women were attractive—but my heart had already been claimed, and I had no desire to look again.
Brothers, the enemy knows your number. For some it’s a bottle, for others it’s money. For many, it’s women. We must be on guard, because the attack isn’t a question of if, but when.
You can’t always control the first look. But you absolutely have the power to reject the second. Not in your own strength—but by the power of the Holy Spirit living in you.
Don’t just be a man who avoids temptation—be a man who chooses faithfulness every time. Be the husband your wife doesn’t have to worry about, the father your son can follow, the man who stares down temptation and walks away.
The world is watching. Your family is watching.
And most importantly—He is watching.
Let the second look be the moment you turn your eyes upward, not outward.
