Don’t Waste Your Season
I never really knew how to steward my time well as a single man—and honestly, I wasted most of it.
My faith journey began through my high school sweetheart. She was one of the key people who introduced me to Christ. But after high school, the relationship ended, and I spent the majority of my 20s single.
That season was marked by drifting. I leaned fully into the mindset of “do whatever makes me happy.” Ironically, the deeper I dove into that, the more miserable I became. I constantly compared myself to the couples around me, envying what they had. I believed the lie that joy would only come once I was in a relationship.
Looking back, I now see countless ways God could have used me in that season—if only I had seen singleness as an opportunity instead of a burden.
What’s even more alarming is how that same trap still ensnares people today—just with a modern twist. Culture is actively convincing young men and women to delay marriage and children, pushing the narrative that while they’re “young,” they should prioritize fun and freedom over commitment. But that’s a basket of lies, and it’s a tactic straight from the enemy.
Here’s the truth:
If God has you in a season of singleness, it’s not a curse. You are not broken. You’re not being punished. And you certainly shouldn’t feel shame or condemnation.
But this also isn’t a free pass to sow wild oats and do whatever feels good.
This may be the most opportune season in your life to lean fully into God’s calling—to pursue His purpose with fewer restrictions than you may ever have again. Steward this time with intentionality and courage.
And one final word for the guy who’s in a relationship but has been stringing her along:
Girls chase boys and try to turn them into men.
Women look for men and make babies.
If you’re not ready to lead, then let her go so she can find someone who will the way God wants.
But if you are, then stop playing house. Step up. Be a man. Get married.
So here’s the challenge: stop waiting for some future version of yourself or some relationship status to give your life meaning. God’s calling on your life isn’t postponed until marriage—it’s active right now. Whether single or dating or married for 50 years, you have a choice: waste the season or walk in purpose. Reject the lies, embrace the truth, and step fully into the man God created you to be—today.
