I’ve learned that the hardest feedback is often the holiest—because it’s where real growth begins.
Recently, I had a few direct conversations with a mentor that weren’t for the faint of heart. He said things I didn’t want to hear. He challenged perspectives I hadn’t even considered—ideas that felt completely foreign and uncomfortable. But as I’ve reflected, I see now: that’s exactly why those conversations were so necessary.
It made me realize that sometimes, the most loving thing a brother can do is tell you the ugly truth—or at least his honest perception of it. That kind of accountability is rare, not because men don’t need it, but because it’s hard. It pushes on pride. It rattles our confidence. It makes us question if we’re really walking in alignment with who God has called us to be.
Hebrews 3:13 warns us about the deceitfulness of sin and how it can slowly harden our hearts. What if the path you’re on now is just slightly off-course? What if you need a nudge—or even a jolt—from someone bold enough to say, “Brother, this isn’t it”?
Here’s my challenge: build relationships that can bear the weight of truth. Surround yourself with men who care more about your sanctification than your feelings. But don’t stop there—be that man for someone else, too.
In a world that avoids discomfort at all costs, Jesus calls us to a better way. It doesn’t start with applause. It starts with courage—and often, with one hard conversation.
Don’t run from them. Lean in.
