In this episode:
Boredom can lead to trouble!
This week the focus was on understanding what the vice of sloth looks like and heading it off when it shows up in your life. Pastor Ryan Britt broke down the topic masterfully and on this Fun Friday Chris recaps some of the highlights.
We need to be planting, growing and harvesting every day for the kingdom and that takes work. We have to finish that work. Click To TweetChris Grainger
Okay. Right. Outta proverb, chapter 24 versus 30 through 34, I went past the field of a Slugger, passed a vineyard to someone who has no sense. Thos that come up everywhere. The ground was covered with weeds and the stone wall was in ruins. I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw a little sleep, a little slumber, a little foldings of the hands to rest and poverty will come on.
You like a thief scarcity, like an arm man, guys, that is powerful scripture right there. And again, I unpacked that big time on the spiritual kickoff this week. So go back and check that. Two episodes ago. And then on Wednesday, our last episode of the line with is we had pastor Ryan Bri from the church of 1122.
He came and he shared a powerful message, powerful around the vices sloth, and how we need to get that sled out of our life. You know, he really spoke on so many things, but the rejection of purpose guys, we’re rejecting it. And Satan wants us to reject that purpose in our life, but we. To completely demolish that idea.
You know, we are fearfully and wonderfully made we’re children of God first and foremost. So pastor Ryan, he shared so much to help us grow and to get that out of our life and to recognize it, look, we need to be planning, growing and harvesting every day for the kingdom. And that takes work and we have to finish that work.
Guys. We, we can’t just give up, we can’t just sit back and if we see. Happening in our life or in our children’s life or in our, or even our, our marriages. We gotta step up. We gotta step in with love, but address it, right? I mean, there’s a reason that, that so many people are struggling with, with just boredom and anxiety and stress because they’re binging Netflix and, and Disney plus, and all these apps and Facebook, and, uh, now TikTok TikTok is taken and it’s unbelievable how many hours people are spending on.
And when they’re doing that, they’re not fulfilling their purpose. They’re not living for the Lord. I mean, pastor Ryan broke it down. He really did talking about who am I? What is my purpose? And you need to understand that you are someone, you know, you, you, you are made for a purpose. So I get really focus in here, guys, lean in, be careful on that content.
Be careful about your relationships and be careful about your finances. Those are all areas that pastor Ryan talked about. It was a powerful conversation. One of my fun, I’ll tell you what church of 1122, everything that he’s doing, pastor, Jo’s doing their whole staff. They’re just phenomenal people to work with.
Uh, so I can’t speak highly enough of them. Again. They are. That is a podcast I listen to every week. I’m very excited. Every time one of the church of 11, 20 twos episodes comes out is every Sunday it drop. The latest sermon, go check it out. You could go back and listen back. I’m already back now back probably close to 2019 in the, uh, in, in the queue.
Cause I’ve listened to so much. I mean, literally three to five sermons a week of pastor Jovie, pastor Ryan, they have, they have special guest pastors as well, but just get in the word, you know, if you’re driving down the road, it’s a great way to plug in and listen to him. See what they’re doing over at church of 1120.
Because I hope you enjoyed that episode on Wednesday. So for today, you know, every fun Friday, I’m gonna give you some tips. I’m gonna try to help you around the areas of health, wealth itself. It’s kind of funny because a couple, some of the things that pastor Ryan was talking about are specifically in those areas, right?
Being better husband, being a better dad, how do we improve our mind? How do we, how do we protect our mind and our body, right? How do we talk about our finances? He touched on all that stuff. So it all comes together. So for your health tip today, I want you to think about one project you guys been putting off and you know what it is, maybe it’s inside the house.
Maybe it’s outside the house, but think about that project. All right. Do you have that project in your mind now? Here’s what I want you to do. Pull out your calendar. Maybe it’s your phone and set a date and go put an appointment in your calendar for that date, so that you’ll have this project done by. So go ahead and do it.
And then when you do that, communicate that, communicate it to your wife. To your kids, if you need to, but communicate it. And let’s commit to hitting slothfulness head on because all this thought that pastor Ryan had did, he, he was constantly speaking to me. I know there’s projects and things I need to get on that I’ve been putting off, you know, can put ’em off.
You put ’em off, you put ’em off. Stop, stop. It’s time to. And we know we gotta stop avoiding that stuff and let’s lean in and make it happen. So turn from that slothful behavior and let’s get moving. So guys there, there’s your one tip let’s let’s make that one project a reality. Okay. Now your well tip is hot.
We’re in the summer. I get it guys. Thank you. First of all, thank you for listening line within us in the. I get my podcast listeners don’t stay plugged in the summer, but we’re here trying to serve you to try to help help you grow. But here’s a summer tip. Try to stay ahead of your big ticket items on your house.
Like the H V a C units with annual maintenance. And you don’t have to pay for that. A lot of times, a lot, this stuff, the basic stuff you can do ourself. Cuz when a, when a mercy hits budgeting, it, it can be tough. You know, if you take a, a H V H V a C unit. That’s a big time expense. Now, the best time that you could do this maintenance is usually in the spring and the fall.
Okay. That may be when you actually need to pay somebody to come out and do a system check. Okay. But in the summer, there are things you can do to really improve the, the life of that equipment. You know, for instance, your HVAC unit change out the filters. Make sure the unit is clean. If you’re cutting grass, go clean it off.
Cause there’s stained with that air fin. They need to pull in air to actually cool it. Okay. So that system will work correctly. So there’s basic maintenance like that, but I’m telling you guys taking care of the filters. Don’t wait. We should not be going three months without changing filter. It needs to be a monthly cadence where you guys are going in and you’re, and you’re checking that and you’re doing that because it’s gonna really improve the EF.
Help that system run longer. So if you need to put it on your counter, go ahead. I know this is not a typical line within a tip, but I’m gonna try to start doing more stuff like this, cuz God, Hey, we’re gotta man up and you need to know some of these systems and I’m not saying you gotta be an electrician.
Don’t get out there and electro yourself, but look basic stuff like changing the filters and clean the unit off. We can do that. So let’s make sure we take care of this, those things, because we want to do all we can to, to increase the run life of that type of equipment. Now the self tip. I want you to ask your wife, what ways have we become lazy in our marriage?
That’s a dangerous question to ask. I know you’re like, Chris, have you lost your mind? I’m not asked that question for, if you, if you want to just, you know, go, go sit in the corner, fine. But for the lions out there, ask her what ways have we become lazy in our marriage? And then guess what you should do after you ask it.
Listen, listen, and then brainstorm together. And make those areas of improvement come together on what do we need to work on to improve check. You got the door. Okay. Be open to feedback. You got to be careful here. Cause too many marriages they’re suffering because real talk never occurs. They’re just gone through the emotions, just checking the box day in, day out, but truth done in love.
That’s be. It could be a great way to grow together. Again, Satan, he’s trying to tear your marriage apart. Grow together. Don’t let slothful like behavior. Enter your marriage. Be intentional here. Okay. Now when you do this, be careful, this does not need to turn into a finger pointing exercise. Okay. Don’t wanna start a big fight here on the areas that you mess up.
Cause there are some, okay. And openly talk about examples. Where you recognize that you are the primary hurdle that may ease the conversation. Cause if you go into that conversation, well, you need to start doing this. And every time you do this, this, this is irritates me. And it’s your fault. Look, that is not fruitful.
Okay. That’s not what I’m talking about. We need to have intentional conversations that have, that will help build our marriages to be able to fight against St. Look, this is an extreme strength building activity guys. So go, maybe it’s a date night activity. You sitting down at the, at the table without the phones and distractions.
And you just ask her what ways have we become lazy in our marriage? And maybe you ask her be, have you put it the end of it because I want to do my part to improve. I want our marriage to be great. I want to, to have a, the joy and a vigor in our marriage. And I’m willing to fight for it. So be brave enough to have the conversation.
All right, guys, there’s your hell tip? Well, tip and self tip again. Now think about that project. You’re putting off, quit putting off that dog on project, get out there and get after it, make it happen. Well, tip stay ahead of those big ticket items. Those HVAC systems are not cheap and when they fail, they have a big impact.
And I want you to stay ahead of that. And then your self tip, ask your wife, what ways have we become lazy in our marriage? Then have a conversation on the areas of improvement, cuz I want your marriage to be a blossom, to be beautiful, to be wonderful. And to ultimately show your kids what a strong covenant, what that looks like.
All right guys. Now for this week, while I was thinking about the book of the week, I went to my library. Cause I’m always looking for books. I’m not gonna recommend you guys books that I haven’t either read or is on my list read because I know they’re highly and I’m actually talking to the author. So I went back to a book.
I read, I think it was 2020. I read this book and highly recommend it. And I, I have not talked to the, to the author maybe one day if God aligns that, but it’s called extreme ownership. Okay. It’s it’s how us Navy seals lead and win. It’s written by Jaco Wilin and, uh, leaf bay. Okay. So, you know, lots of guys know JCO, you know, JCOs out there.
He’s definitely a type, a top, top level personality. He got a huge influence, lot of followers, things like that, but the book is, is killer. It really breaks down some areas. And I had the book right here at my hands guys and make sure to go check out his show notes, but winning the war within, he goes through several chapters of where that war within us, you know, and how we can combat.
And then part two, he talks about the actual laws of combat, what that looks like. And then as he wraps up the book, he talks about sustaining victory, cuz it’s not just good to win, you have to be able to sustain it. Okay guys. So again, lots of, uh, great stories here in this book from actual Navy seal experiences and how you can apply that into your life.
Now, I, I never served in the military. I have a huge, huge respect for the men and women that. Or that did I always make sure that we, we, we honored the veterans, but I tell you what, the way JCA was taking this type of, of information and sharing it with others, highly encourage it. You will not be disappointed with this read guys again, check out the show note.
There we’ll have the link to extreme ownership. I would encourage you to put that, make that part of your library. Okay. Now for your dad jokes this week. All right guys, dad joke number. Police have arrested the world tongue twister champion. They said he will be given a tough sentence. Now, come on. That is, that’s pretty good there.
Okay. Number two, while I was 69 afraid of 70, because they had a fight in 71. Crickets crickets come on now. Both of ’em pretty good. I’m probably leaning more one this week, but you make the vote. So please have arrested the world. Tongue twist, your champion. They said he’ll be given a tough sentence. And then number two, while I was 69, afraid of 70, because they had a fight in 71.
So there you go. So there, there your dad jokes, let us know which ones, uh, hit, hit best at home. Remember I rolls count, but ultimately we’re just trying to get a little chuckled out. Hopefully on this fun Friday, this this makes you smile and gives you something you can go into your weekend. Maybe share that around the dinner table tonight, or just around the barbecue this weekend and get a laugh.
But a question we talked about all week, guys, what slothful behavior needs to be removed from your life? What slothful behavior? We all have it. Do we need to just go ahead and rip get out replace? Okay. So he’s thinking about that guys, so then really lean into it. So for this week, you know, this, this kind of wraps us.
