In this episode:
Are you working for the right reasons?
Too often we find ourselves chasing a title, raise or some false sense of security. In this Spiritual Kick Off Chris unpacks a powerful verse that helps put into perspective the real reason we should work. When you get the “Why” right the rest falls into place. We are all called to work and the Lord is our supervisor. Approaching your career with the right mindset as well as with the right heart is most important.
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. Click To TweetColossians 3:23
Okay. Colossians. And we’re gonna be looking specifically at Colossians three, verse 23. Now Colosians 3 23 says whatever you do work at it with all your heart as for the Lord and not for human masters. Okay. So that’s a great piece of scripture. Dear guys, we’re gonna be again, kind of digging into this this morning or today, rather as we go through this now, where is Colossians?
You need to understand where Colosians is in your Bible. So it’s new testaments, you know, go past the gospels, Matthew, Martin, Luke, and. You go past acts enrollments, then you go through the first and second Corinthians. There you’ll go. And then you get into some of the, the, the other epistles, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, then Colossians.
Okay. So if you got two Deon, you went too far back up one, but right there, just before that, you’ll find Colossians. And again, whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as for the Lord and not for human masters. So let’s just break this down. I wanna break this, this scripture down into three areas.
As I, as I thought about it, as I did my research to try to give it to you guys in a way that that makes sense that you can apply it to your life. So let’s just look at the very first part, whatever you do. Okay. Here’s the principle that nothing we could do, you know, we should not do for the glory of God.
It’s that simple. Anything we do, we need to be doing for his glory. Okay. There’s any activity, right? Whether it’s some, so even if you’re resting right or re relaxation, or you’re doing service work, maybe you’re doing service work for, for the, for the community or the church, or you’re doing your vocational work.
You’re actually going to work right now, do it for God’s sake. That’s it. So, whatever work you find yourself doing today, you have an opportunity wherever you’re at to glorify him. And here’s your question, maybe think about this. Do others see God’s glory in your. Do they see it? Do they know you’re a Christian?
You, I ask guys all the time. Hey, it’s easy to be a Christian on Sunday morning. How about Tuesday morning? 10 o’clock maybe you’re on a production line or you’re in the plant or you’re in a meeting wherever you’re at. Do they see Christ? So for whatever you do, you do it for the glory of guy. Now the second part let’s look at the second part is verse work at it with all your.
Now, we’ve all heard the saying, I know you guys know what I’m gonna say, probably if it’s worth doing what it’s worth doing. Right, right. That’s it, it’s a godly principle. And as Christians, we should seek a life, uh, to, to live a life where we don’t have one minute or one ounce of energy wasted every day is an opportunity.
Every day. You. You guys know when someone, you know, has it in their heart versus just going through the motion. Right. You know, if they really care, you can see it versus the people who are just going through the motions. Jeff, just, I’m just here to click, collect a check. I just want to get to, to five o’clock or four o’clock or the end of my shift or whatever it is.
Right. You can see it. So even if you’re, if you find yourself today studying an Excel spreadsheet full of numbers, You can do it with a loving heart. Now it maybe take some practice, particularly if you’re looking at Excel sheets all day, but look, whatever you find yourself doing, cutting grass, working in the yard, working, you know, on a production line, working in a plant, working in management, you know, maybe you’re in budget meetings.
Okay. Maybe you’re in marketing, finance, banking, whatever you find yourself. Maybe you find yourself on a tractor all day. Wherever you are, you have an opportunity to work at it with all your heart. Cause the world, the world is watching. How are you gonna respond? Choose to work at it with all your heart and do do the right thing.
Now the third part of description, as we keep reading through it as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Okay. So ultimate supervisors who God, he’s our ultimate supervisor. Right. We have to keep that in mind, cuz it is so tough. I get it guys. If you have a bad boss, a bad manager, a bad leader, whatever you call ’em, they can be difficult.
It can be a challenge, but you have to remember who your ultimate supervisor is. Okay. Keeping God in his ways and in front of your mind, that’s your prime motivation right there. That is the motivation. And that’s gonna lead you to the work that you’ll. And it’s gonna help you do the work for him. Okay. So it is, it is, it’s not that that we are to take our human masters, that, that we’re not to take our human master seriously.
You know, we, we should, we should take our bosses seriously. We should take our leaders. Seriously. We have to, right. They are, they are an authority, right? So they are authority over us. So we, we should listen to ’em hopefully learn from ’em, but their, a author, the, the, our ultimate authority comes from the Lord.
Which is, and we have to remember that guys, we have to, so the, you could have the lowliest position out there. Right. And, and maybe you see it as it’s just, it’s not very fulfilling. There’s not much dignity. It’s okay. Whatever you’re doing, you have an opportunity right there to be that image. Bear for Christ to do it in a, in a powerful way.
Cause you’re working for him. You’re working for him. Remember what Jesus did. All right. Jesus. What did he do? With the disciples right in the upper room, he took the lowest of the low position, humbled himself and washed their feet. Now I’m not sure what job you’re headed to today, but I I’m pretty sure most likely you’re not gonna be washing people’s feet, particularly the, the, the feet of Jesus’ day.
Right. These. This was nasty. This was, this was, this was, that was that show dirty, dirty jobs. Yeah. This would’ve been on that, right. This would’ve made that cut. Right. But he did that right before he was crucified. And guess what he did, he did it with a loving heart. So do other, see joy and love in the work that you do?
Cause they should, as Christian men, as lion. They should see it in everything that we do. So the bottom line is this guys. We need to understand what it be means to be a man created in image of God. Cause that’s gonna enable us to do all our work, to do everything we have every day with every ounce of energy we got for the glory of.
So guys, Colossians 3 23, powerful verse, whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, ask for the Lord and not for human masters. So guys, I hope that encourages you, that lifts you to give you some inspiration for the week. I encourage you to come back on Wednesday, gonna have a powerful conversation with a group of guys that I think you’re gonna really like.
Cause I’m gonna give you some insight, some ideas, maybe if you’re not doing the work that you want to do, these guys help people tap to that passion and start figuring out what the next steps look like. So get I get it. If you’re dreading your drive right now, if you’re dreading your job, if you’re, if you’re just struggling, come back on.
We. If it’s gonna be the conversation that’s aimed to serve you to help you grow. Okay, guys, now, a question I want you to think about this week, what gift, and I said that you heard that, right? What gift do you have that you can serve others and monetize? Okay. There’s a gift to serve others and monetize.
If God wants to bless us, he wants, he wants to pour his blessing on us, but we gotta put into. It’s not gonna be given to us. We gotta, we gotta lean in. All right, guys, there you go. Now, you know, on our spiritual kickoffs, we won’t take the opportunity because we don’t know who’s listening to the line within us.
We know that a lot of you guys are listening and we’re so blessed. We are humbled by that. It BR it humbles me every, every week. And when I see the, the, the encouraging numbers of the people that download the line within us, but also know you may all not be believers. So I’m gonna take a real quick minute here.
I wanna share something with you. If you have never put your trust in your heart in Jesus Christ, today’s the day. Because if the Lord comes back today and you have not put that trust in him, you will not go to heaven, period. You will go to hell and you’ll be separated from him for eternity. Now I hate to be that on the nose, but the gospel is offensive and I need to be direct with you.
I care about you, or if I wouldn’t share the gospel, I actually care. So what does it mean? First of all, we’re sinners. We have all fallen short of the glory of God. Every one of us, I’m the chief center right here. I get it. We have wicked hearts and we cannot nice our way into heaven as much as, as I’d like to think.
You know, you could just be a nice guy and get there. Nope. Hell’s gonna be full of nice guys. Think about that, hell is gonna be full of nice guys. So you can’t nice your way in. So how do you get it? How do you do it? How do you get into heaven? There’s only one way. It’s only one way and Jesus tells us no one comes to the father except through him.
So who is this Jesus guy? Well, he’s God. And he came to earth. He, and he, he took on flesh and he walked with this and he, all them, the, the felt, the things that we felt and he taught us. He performed miracles. And then he took the ultimate penalty for our sin when they nailed him on a cross and his blood ran and he, and he died.
He pushed up on his, on his feet who had that had nails through them. He pushed up on his feet and he said, it is finish the tele it’s done. And, and the, the, the atonement, every our sin paid for right there. They laid him in the tomb. And when they laid him in the tomb, three days later, he rose cuz we don’t worship a dead man.
We worship a living savior. So yes, he rose three days later he walked amongst us and then he ascended to heaven. And where is he at right now? Right hand of the father. He’s at the right it in right hand of the father right now. So to access, to be able to have a relationship with. All you have to do admit your sin.
You need to believe that Jesus is who he said he was, which is the son of God. But ultimately you need to confess him as your Lord. This is a heart thing guys. And when you do that confession, the holy Spirit’s gonna come. It’s gonna come into your heart. And at that point you have spiritual eyes, the scales will be removed.
You will see, he will start guiding you. And if you listen to. You spend time in his word. If you surround yourself with other believers and do all you can to follow his instruction, guys, there’s power in that. And at that point, you have the opportunity to share this with others, share the gospel. What does a gospel mean?
Good news. Share the good news with all you guys. I’m praying blessings for each and every one of you. If you, if you. Pray this prayer, and you’ve just accepted Jesus as your savior. I want you to send us an email support@thelionwithin.us. Okay. Send an email now, why do I want you to send an email? Cause I wanna send you some encouragement.
I wanna hop on call with you and just pray with you and just welcome. Welcome you too. The brotherhood as a brother or a sister in Christ. Now I wanna give you some, some, some resources are gonna help you with your walk because it doesn’t get. Okay, not, this is not a cupcake and rainbow journey. Doesn’t get easier, but it does get better.
This is better. This is the way, you know, the, the, the most rarest commodity we have of human race, peace of mind. And we keep searching for this piece, but there’s only one piece and that’s found through a loving relationship with Jesus Christ as your savior, your Lord. So guys, I pray you made that. That, that commitment right now, again, support@thelionwithin.us.
