In this episode:
What do you say to the man in the mirror?
Often we tear ourselves down and the lies we say over and over we start to believe. What if instead of tear ourselves down we began building up instead? It’s possible and in this episode Chris unpacks a widely popular book “What to Say When You Talk to Yourself” and he adds a Spiritual element that we can all incorporate to our daily walk.
Would you let others speak to you the way you speak to you? Click To Tweet Chris Grainger
This is when we need to start speaking to ourselves on a regular basis. The. There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Now, if you missed a spiritual kickoff, first of all, keep for yourself in the pants. What are you doing Missing? A spiritual kickoff. I’m just kidding, guys. Go back and listen to that one.
Seriously, that is one I, I really poured my heart out in that one because this verse, Romans eight, one, is something we need, guys, we gotta have verses like this in our back pocket at all times. Cause Satan’s. And what I wanna talk about today is self-talk. Self-talk. Cause you know what words matter. It does.
They do. And what we say to ourselves, it’s killing so many men. It’s destroying us. It’s destroying our confidence in our abilities to leave. And I, you know, I normally save the question for the end, but I wanna save the question right here at the beginning. Okay. Just to get you thinking as we, as we move forward through this.
Would you let others speak to you the way that you speak to yourself? Think about that. Would you let others speak to you the way you speak to yourself? I’m just gonna share, I’m just gonna share about my, me personally, how this affects me. I’m terrible at this. Absolutely terrible at this, guys. I’ve been podcasting now for three years, over three years.
You know, we’ve had hundreds of episodes. Between this and another show, and, and every time, almost every time that I turn the mic on, I still have this imposter syndrome pop up. What are you doing? Why are you turning this on? Nobody’s gonna listen to you. Nobody cares. Who do you think? You’re kidding, right?
All the words we say to ourselves, all this doubt, you’re never gonna be successful. You’re never going to be able to, to do this full. And guess what? When you have all that negative self-talk, particularly from me, it just cascades down. Cause guess who I take it out on? Everybody underneath this roof and I’m talking about my house, they get it.
They get the brunt of it cuz that negative just cascaded down. Next thing you know, I’ll hear my kids saying something like, I can’t do this. I can’t, I can’t. And then I gotta know, I gotta recognize, hey, that’s an issue and I’m the lead culprit. I gotta stop that. I got to stop. So I wanted to start thinking through, you know, obviously through scripture of, of ways to start combating this negative self-talk to, I hear so many guys on a weekly basis say, so we have some resources here.
I’m gonna get to that here in a little bit. But let’s just, I also want to talk about a book that I read recently and we’re gonna kind of unpack a few ideas, a few, uh, stats that I was not aware of that just blew my mind. So the book, I’m gonna go ahead and tell you guys the book of the week this week is what to Say When You Talk to Yourself.
Okay? This is about a guy named Shad Hams Letter. Uh, he’s a PhD. Pretty sharp dude. Obviously this is a pretty famous book. You may guys may have read this before, but this is a book. It was recommended to me. And when I, when I, when I got it, it resonated so much. I was like, you know what? I just need to make this into an episode because guys struggle with this.
I know you do. And if you’re listening to this right now and you’re saying, Chris, I don’t struggle with this. Quit, quit, quit lying again. The fake you’s doing just fine. Be the real you for this, uh, for just this little bit of time. You listen to the line within us. Put, put that that facade to the side and lean into.
Here’s your, here’s some few stats. Did you realize we, on average, between being born turning 18, we get told no close to 150,000 times 150,000 times. We get told no Now. If your, if your kids are like my kids, I think that’s wrong. Cause I feel like I get that by that in a week. . But seriously, we get told no a lot, right?
We do. And that turns, that translates into 77% of what we think is negative. Now, this is a study that this book is, I’m, I’m, I’m obviously citing their stats, but this was a pretty extensive study. 77% of what we think is. Now think it through how you go about your day and what gets said to yourself internally.
I’ll guarantee you, if you’re like me on a pretty consistent basis, those thoughts are negative. They just are. They’re negative thoughts, right? Because we have, uh, the, uh, a personal onboard computer , and that thing can get jacked up. I mean, it does, it just gets jacked up. And it’s not on our own fault guys.
It’s just cause we get told no so much and we can’t do things so much. And next thing you know, that just spins it. His negative thoughts. And he had a pretty good analogy in the book. He talked about an airplane. He says, uh, let’s imagine you’re gonna go on an airplane. And you gotta, and someone’s gonna invite you on a trip, and you’re going, go, fabulous.
A fabulous vacation, and everything’s being paid for. And you’re walking on the plane. And the plane, the, the, the pilot, the pilot of the plane says, you know what, um, it’s been the, the onboard computer has been programmed wrong, and it’s gone. It’s gonna be programmed so that 77% of directions will control the plane in the wrong.
Now if you knew you were getting on that plane and 77% of that plane of the, of that computer in that plane was programmed incorrectly, what would you do? I don’t know about you, but you boy, Chris, he’s gonna get off. I’m not gonna get on that plane. You know, me and planes is a whole nother story, quite a little sidebar.
Why do they call ’em terminals? I know this has nothing to do with this episode, but seriously, could they not think of a better thing to call an airport than a terminal? I mean, come on, it is bad enough. I don’t like, you know, get on one of these things that takes off front, you know, puts me in 30,000 feet in the air going 700 miles an hour.
But does it have to be called a terminal? There’s gotta be a better way. How about an alive? I mean, come on. That’s where I want to go. But anyway, I digress. But seriously, if we knew that plane’s computer let’s programs to have 77% default incorrect, you wouldn’t get on. You would fix it, you would get off and somebody would fix that computer, right?
They would, and this is what we need to consider as we move forward, because I’m gonna tell you what, if you start, start thinking about the negatives in our, in our life, they far outweigh the, the positives they do because there’s a lot of common negative self-talk guys, I want, I’m gonna give you a few examples in this book, and so many of ’em resonate, resonated to me.
This is just basic negative self-talk. Have you ever said, I can’t remember names. It’s just gonna be another one of those days. It’s just no use. I know it won’t work. Nothing ever goes right for me. Ah, I just don’t have the talent. I can’t get organized. Today is not my day. I can never afford the things I want.
I already know I won’t. I ain’t gonna like it. Am I starting to hit home on, on you guys? Is it starting to sink? How about sometimes I just hate myself. I’m just no good. Uh, things just ain’t working out for me right now. I’m really outta shape. I’ve never been any good at this stuff. This desk is always a mess.
I never win anything. Nobody likes me. I can’t ever catch a break. Have you ever said that to yourself? If you haven’t said that to yourself, you’re lying. I know you. Nobody wants to pay me what I’m worth. Sometimes I wish I just hadn’t been born. There’s just no way. I never get it right. I can’t take it anymore.
I hate my job. Can you hear it? It’s just cold this time of year. Now I in on that one, right? I can’t handle this. I can’t ever get to where I’m supposed to be on time. I will tell you after our fourth child, I feel like this is, this is our life. But again, , it’s a little digression. If only I was a little bit smarter.
If only I was a little bit taller, only had a little bit more money. And all. And all and all. Can you feel it? Can you feel it? I’m telling you guys, we say this stuff to ourself so often. It just becomes who we are. It just becomes natural, and this is what we gotta combat. We have to combat this negative self.
Okay. And when we start thinking about this, when I started digging into this book and trying to understand it to, to give you guys something to help serve you through this, they started talking about a thing called self-management sequence. And it’s pretty interesting. So basically it breaks down in, in the five areas, you have programming, you have beliefs, you have attitudes, you have feelings and the actions.
Okay? So you have, it all starts with the programming. Okay. Cause that program. This again, what you’ve learned throughout your life, what you say to yourself on a daily basis that creates your beliefs. So if you keep telling yourself that I can’t do X, Y, Z, guess what? You’re never going to do it. Hey, I can’t run a marathon.
You say that you’ve co you’ve, you’ve already submitted that. You’re done. You’re never gonna be able to get that accomplished. You’re not gonna, it’s not gonna happen. You’re so that that programming leads to your belief and that belief is, yeah, I’m not gonna get it. And then that belief, that’s gonna create an attitude and all of a sudden you come, you become flipping about it, eh, whatever, I’m not gonna do it.
Who cares? No big deal. And that attitude that creates those feelings towards it, you’re gonna have these negative feelings. Toward whatever that is. Cause sticking on, pull on that marathon thread a little bit further. Yeah. Who can, who even cares about running a marathon? That’s just, that’s just dumb. And then that’s gonna determine our actions.
You know what, since marathons are, I can’t do ’em, and they’re dumb, and it’s, it’s ridiculous. I might as well just sit here and eat some Cheetos. What do I need to worry about working out for? See? And that creates the results. And what’s, what’s the result of that? I have to get a new wardrobe eventually.
Cause your pants ain’t gonna fit. I I know guys you’re saying Well, Chris, you’re being a little too direct. Well, I’m sorry. I’m gonna be direct on this stuff cuz guys we need direct talk. There’s too much of this, you know, cupcake and rainbow talk out here. Let’s have some straight talk, some real talk with our and, and let’s, we gotta get real on topics like this so that programming is important guys.
Now the cool vital part about a program, I don’t know if you guys have ever programed before. I’ve programmed in the past it’s been a, a another life. My dad’s an excellent programmer, uh, for, uh, PLCs and computers. He’s done things that they’re self-made engineer and, you know, cool thing about a program is they can be correct.
They can be written right. There’s, it’s not set in stone. They can be modified. You can do. In in end process modification. And if you’ve ever done any PLC programming and you know you probably don’t want to do that, cuz that can be scary. You can shut down the line. But for what we’re talking about, it’s very applicable.
You can reprogram your thinking. It’s gonna take intentional actions, but you can reprogram your thinking. So guys, we’re gonna dig into that. We’re gonna see, okay, how can we reprogram our thinking? How can we actually move this negative? To a more productive, positive self-talk. So we’re gonna take a quick break.
We’ll be right back and we’ll start digging into this.
What if you could connect with other Christian men, grow in your faith, have resources to help you be the leader God intends you to be. Have live events where you can ask questions and get in the moment answers and be connected to. 24 7 when you need him the most, does it sound too good to be true?

Get a 30 day free trial. Just see what it’s like and you may find what you’ve been looking for. That encouragement, that support, that brotherhood is right here at the click of your finger. I’ll see you inside the. All right guys, welcome back. So let’s get into it. So we we’re gonna start combating that negative self-talk, and we’re gonna do that by understanding there are ultimately five levels.
There are five levels of self-talk that we would need to understand about. Okay. Let’s just roll through ‘EM level one’s. What we found, we’ve been talking about this already. That’s that negative acceptance. That’s when you say I can’t, and guys, we all say, I can’t lose weight. I can’t have a, a, a, a great marriage.
I can’t make any more money at my work. I can’t find a time, yada, yada, yada. I can’t right? That, those, I can’t always work against us. They always do. There’s never, and I can’t, that works for you. They always work against us. So that’s a flag. So if you immediately see can’t coming out your mouth, that needs to be a trigger.
Okay. I’m recognizing that. I’m saying I can’t. What are you gonna do? You and, and that recognition is important. Okay, so that’s level one. Now you have level two. This is the, where you have that recognition and you need to change. That’s where you say, I need to, I should. I tell guys all the time, quit shooting on yourself.
Seriously, stop it. Stop shooting on yourself. It’s not good. It’s not productive because what you’re doing right here is you recognize a problem, but you’re creating those solutions. You recognize that something’s going on, but ultimately nothing’s happening. Guys, that’s, that is the most unproductive thing you can do.
So you need to understand, look, if you start hearing yourself, you know, I, I should study or I should, I should start eating better. You know what I, you know, I, I think that, uh, I just, I, I need to, to get control of this. Okay? I get it. So what are you gonna do to actually make that come to fruit? Gotta put it into action.
Okay. That’s different. That takes a, a different level of thinking. So these first two, you know, these first level, level one, level two of self-talk, they’re, they’re pretty bad. Then you have a level three, that’s the le that’s the level of decision to change. All right, so now you talked about, I never, or I no longer, so this is starting to work for you instead of against you.
But you see the, the cuz you’re starting to recognize, you know what I need to change. And you’re also starting to make a decision to do something about it. That’s the important step here. Okay? So what you’re doing right here, level three, you’re automatically begin. That old cannot those can’ts and putting in the behind you and you’re starting to state a new positive way that tells your subconscious mind, alright, we gotta start making this happen boys.
We gotta start moving. We gotta start putting some things into. That’s what it’s all about. So I’m gonna tell you what, if you, if you say, you know what, maybe you struggle. They use an example in here about smoking. Maybe you struggle with smoking, you want to stop smoking or vaping that. I know vaping’s a big thing now and you just feel like you can never quit.
You know, I just can’t quit, man. I can’t, I just keep falling back into the same old traps and, you know, when I get stressed out, I need it. And if I, if I quit, I won’t gain weight because it helps me stay slim. Uh, I’m just gonna, I’m just gonna replace it with another habit. Look, all that’s level one, level two, self-talk.
It’s all negative. I can’t, can’t, can’t, can’t, whatever. Stop, say I no longer am going to smoke and start speaking that over yourself. I am no longer gonna be held bondish to this vape, to these cigarettes, to whatever that vice is. Maybe it’s video games. I don’t know, whatever device is may for me, M and mss, I’m not gonna be held to that vice of m and ms anymore, right?
I’m not gonna be held to it. And don’t let that that vice hold you down and start speaking that truth. Okay? Cuz you’ll start, this works really well when you’re trying to make micro changes, particularly things like stopping smoking. That’s just a common one, you hear, right? I don’t want sm, I don’t wanna vape anymore.
All right? So I no longer vape. I never have the urge to. I never have the need to vape, right? I no longer have the time to vape. I no longer are going to waste my time vaping, and I’m going to do this instead. See how that’s starting to change? That little bit of change is starting to make a difference in your thinking.
Now let’s move to negative four, to to not negative four, to level four. This is the level, the level of a better you. This is where you start seeing your ims. Your I Ams and this is where, um, you start talking in present tense as others didn’t say I was or I’m going to be. This is I am, because that’s all we have.
We have right now. Remember, therefore, now there’s no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Now, right now, live in the present. Guys that live in the future, totally missed all the blessings that are around them. You have to be where your feet are. You guys heard me say that a lot before too, so be. Start speaking those.
I ams. I am in tune, I am on top. I am going forward. I am determined, I am equipped, I am capable. Right. I am. Start speaking those I ams cuz that’s gonna start building a whole new level of, of, of confidence in with you, inside of you. And it’s going to replace those cannots with Yes I cans when you start getting cans out and cans.
You gonna start moving the ball down the field. And I’ll tell you what, if you do this, this challenges us to do battle with our fears and then we’re going to end up being victorious. So start speaking those. I ams over and over and over. I can’t help but think as a Christian man, every time I, when I got to this one, I’m like, yeah, well that’s what God did when they asked him what his name was.
Tell him, I am sent you the great I am. You know what, we are created in energy. So I am capable. You are. Remember that at all times. This is an important one, guys. Don’t just flash by this self-talk right here. This I am is key. So key to moving the ball down the field in the right direction. Now the fifth level of self-talk, okay?
This is the level of universal affirmation, and this is where he starts speaking. It is. And those affirmations are really important. You have start speaking them over right you, so you have to start understanding what this is true. This is a fact. This is known. And the affirmations that I try to speak over myself are very personal.
I think those affirmations, they need to be for yourself. You know, start off with I am a child of God. This is true. I am fearfully and wonderfully. I know for a fact that I’m fearfully warm from me, right? I’m a great husband, I’m a great dad. All these things start speaking these truths over. You start speaking, uh, that I am successful.
I am capable, I am equipped. You start doing these things and start speaking to, to, to, to this level of affirmations, guys. That’s when you start changing the. That’s when you start really moving the ball down the field. This is a big area to understand. Look, these first couple levels gotta steer clear those again, it’s level one, this negative acceptance where you start saying, I can’t level two this recognition and need a change.
I need to, I should, to just stop saying can’t and should. If you don’t remember anything, this podcast, just remember that. Stop shooting on yourself and stop saying can. And then start moving to that level three, four, and five level three decision to change. Look where you, where you start saying, I never, or I no longer, you know, see how that, that, that just, that verbiage starts breaking those chains level four to the better level of you.
That’s the I am statements. And then level five, get to those affirmations where you’re speaking those truths over yourself. So now how you get this thing started , because this is it. This is. I get it, Chris. Well, how do I do this? All right. There’s, there’s a couple ways. First of all, think about your silent thoughts.
Think about them thoughts, and just roll through your head all the time. You gotta recognize them, you gotta capture ’em, and you gotta start making a change here. So those silent thoughts, just turn ’em, flip ’em, go, go to the, IM. Get those affirmations, start speaking those si silently to yourself. To me, that’s a little prayer.
You know, I’m gonna ask the Holy Spirit to guide me, to show me, to help me see some of these truths. Then you have sp uh, the second thing you can do, self speak. So actually say the words out loud. Don’t just thank them. Speak ’em cuz there’s power when you start speaking words. The tongue has power.
Scripture. Start speaking these, these self-talk out loud. Now the next one, you gonna think I’m crazy, but just hang with me. It ain’t the first time you probably thought, oh, Chris was crazy probably. And it won’t be the last think about self conversation. And when I read this chapter and this guy got the self conversation, I’m like, all right bro, I think he just lost me.
But then I started praying, thinking about it even more. Like, you know what, I do this though. I do this, play it out some. So, so maybe you’re struggling to make a. On, on whatever it is. Maybe you’re trying to buy a vehicle or buy a house or change a job, whatever it is, start just have the conversation with yourself.
Two parties. All right. Chris, what do you think about this? Well, Chris, you could consider this. Yeah, Chris, but what about if this happened? Yeah, Chris. And just start walking that out. And you’ll be surprised just by the process of doing that, what you reveal to. Now be careful we do this, okay? Because if you do it like in a busy place or you know, on a Sunday in the church pew or something like that, people may start praying for you or, or check on you, make sure you’re okay.
But there is power and, and, and just having a self conversation. Okay? Now if I just lost some of you guys, a self conversation said didn’t go up, Chris, I then we in the world, I’m gonna have a self conversation. Consider this self right. It’s a proven fact when you take a thought from your. You actually go through the art of putting it on paper.
There is something that, that, that chemically that just works where it tri it, it makes it more real. It cements it so that I, that act of just writing ’em down. Write down some of these positive self talks. See yourself, write down the affirmations. Write that list. Can you type it? Yep, you can type it. But there is something I think magical that happens with that when our hands go through the motion of actually writing them down.
So write down those self talks. And the last way you can do to really get started is record it self-talk. Now, just by listening to this podcast episode at the very end, when we’re getting ready to get to here in a few minutes, I’m gonna give you guys some self-talk that you can use. Right here and, and maybe you want to just go back and go keep this section available and just let me speak these truths over and over and over to you.
But they’re self-talk. You can go to YouTube, you can go to podcasts. There’s all sorts of websites out there. Just find some positive self-talk. I would just say this as a Christian man though. Vet it. Vet it. Just make sure that they’re not speaking they the false to you. That’s. We’re, we’re not a cupcake.
We’re not a snowflake. We’re not a skittle. We don’t need to hear all these things. We, but we, we do need some positive self-talk going on. Okay? So just if they get to, you are one with the universe, stuff like that. They may wanna be cautious about that. We know who we’re following, but we, but these, there is some good positive self-taught things out there.
And I think listening to podcasts like this, lying with us, we’re gonna help you. We’re gonna give you encouragement, right? And we’re gonna give you ultimately, Okay. Now, once you recognize when this negative self start talk starts happening, what are you gonna do? You gotta take action because knowledge without action is useless, guys.
It’s, it’s just useless. So how do you start taking action? Well, you start leaning into some of the things I just talked about, right? You have to really start leaning in and making a conscious effort to make a shift. So one thing I want you to think about before we get to these declarations, Is, who are you listening to?
Okay. Not just yourself. Here. I, I get what we’ve been talking about, self-talk, but a lot of our thoughts are driven by the people we’re surrounding ourself with, and you have to have the right people in your life. Guys, you’ve heard me say about, say before, and I know there’s other people who cite this too.
You’re a net result. Or the five people you hang around with the most, who you hang around with, are they drawing you closer to the Lord or they pulling you further? They’re pulling you for a little away, guys. You’re, you’re allowing that to infiltrate your thoughts and that’s going to, I guarantee you that’s going to impact your negative thoughts.
It’s going to happen. I promise you it’s going to happen. So be careful here. Keep your guard up. Now I saying you gotta get rid of all your friends. No, but you may need to get rid of a few of them. I’m gonna be honest with you because if, if, if they’re, if they’re not chasing Jesus, if they’re. A believer, first of all, and on and headed towards the Lord.
Then you need to really be careful. What are you listening to them? What are they speaking into you now, Jesus, he would go out amongst the centers and we’d call to do the same. The church is a hospital, not a country club. I totally get all that right, and that’s not what I’m talking about. Well, we’re, when we’re out, we’re serving.
We’re doing who the Lords were. Yes, we’re supposed to be out and doing it. What I’m talking about is who you are letting speak into. As a, as a man right now, you have to be careful there, guys. And we don’t put enough thought into this. I don’t think we, we, we just go through the motions. We just listen to whoever and we can’t do that.
You have to have your guard up and that’s why community’s so important. I’m gonna be straight up, that’s why we started in line within this community. Cause we need a strong Christian, men that are gonna speak positive but also speak truth to each. And that’s, that’s why it’s been so successful, that’s why it’s been so successful is cuz we have truth, we have vulnerability, we have action, we have accountability, and, and we’re, we have all this built into this awesome community guys.
And you have to have that around you. So even if it’s not the line within this community find, go find your go. Find a way to plug in with other men who are gonna speak these truths. Now shamelessly, I’m just gonna tell you, I think ours is awesome. So if you wanna check it out, go to our website and align with us, join our community, try it out cuz I promise you, you are gonna find Christian men, Christian brothers in there that are gonna care for you, that it gonna speak true to you.
And it’s also I found a place where guys can be a little more real. Now if you can speak some truth to our guys in our community, cuz you’re probably not gonna run into them, uh, on church on. Or in Walmart or Target on the weekends or at bash pro shops or wherever you’re at, right? You’re probably not gonna run into these guys, so you can be a little bit more open and honest.
And I think that’s what we need and that’s what is really driving a lot of, of, of the positive self-talk that’s happening inside. So guys, there you go. Right now I’m getting ready to, to share with you a list of declarations that we can start speaking to ourselves. As children of of the king, that’s gonna really make an impact in this self-talk.
But don’t forget these rules. Don’t forget these different levels that I’ve already talked about earlier. So when we get back from this break, we’re gonna dig into some self-talk declarations that you as a Christian man and start speaking to yourself. And I promise you we’ll make an impact. We’ll be, we’ll be right back guys.
What if you could connect with other Christian men, grow in your faith, have resources to help you be the leader God intends you to be. And then from here I’m gonna give you a little scripture verse. You can go right along there. Now this list. Full disclosure came from our community. Okay. Uh, we have a brother, Dwayne Staton, has a wonderful podcast called The Power of Forgiveness. Dwayne is just a just amazing man of God. I’ve been on his show.
He’s just, uh, a, a wa a wonderful young father. Uh, love him. He’s he, he’s he on the East Coast with me. Uh, we’re gonna try, I gotta try to get up with him sometime, cuz I just think he’s just, he just has such a warm heart. So he put this out in our community. And I asked him for his permission. I was like, Dwayne, this is so good.
Can I just use this in a podcast? He’s like, by all means, if it helps serve, just do it. So guys, go check out his podcast, the Power of Forgiveness. Uh, we’ll put a link in a show notes for you guys as well on that. But I just wanna say thank you to Dwayne, uh, for, for letting, uh, me use this and for, for the, the amount of work he put into this.
This is just incredible. So hopefully this served you well. Now when he gets us started by talking. The key verse is Proverb 1 37, for he who thinks in his heart. So he is eat, drink, he says to you, but his heart is not with you. So think about that, and then as we move forward, we know God’s word is true.
You know, John 17, 17 says this, and we can believe these things. So we can start. We need to go into this thinking. This is true, this is truth. Now the first declaration, I am blessed. I am blessed. Right here out of Ephesians one. Bless be the godfather of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing and heavenly places and in Christ.
There you go. He’s blessed us. You are blessed. How about this one? I am loved. I shouldn’t have to tell you which verse this is, but John three 16. Now it doesn’t say so. God so love a few people. What does it. For God. So love the world. The world, and guess what? If you got a heartbeat right now, you’re listening to this, you’re part of the world and he gave, and he so love the world.
You are loved. You may not feel it. I get it. Sometimes life can be harder. You don’t feel love, but you can rest assure at all times 24, 7, when you’re awake, when you’re asleep, when you’re doing good, when you’re doing bad, it doesn’t matter. You are loved. All right, now I am fearless. How about this one? I am fearless.
Do you fear? Do you feel fearless today, guys? Well, in second Timothy, it says, God doesn’t give us a spirit of fear, but what? Power, love, and a sound mind, guys, you have a spirit of power, not fear, fears from Satan, powers from Jesus. Let’s, let’s lean in on the Holy Spirit. Okay, so I am fearless. How about I am a conqueror.
I am a conqueror, so Romans 8 37. But in all these things, we overwhelmingly conquer through him who loved us. I am a conqueror. Do you feel like you can conquer? How about I am redeemed in him? We have redemption through his blood for the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace, right outta Ephesians.
Ephesians 17. You are redeemed. How about this one for guys? When I read this one I was like yeah, this is a big one. I am not alone. I am not alone. Speak that out to yourself right now. I am not alone. You know we need to understand right in Isaiah. Fear not. I am with you. Be not dis displayed, dismayed. For I am your God.
I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. I will uphold you my righteous right hand. We’re never alone guys. Not for a second. I know in the trials it seem it’s, it can suck. It just does. And it feels like, man, why? Why does anybody care? God cares. You are never alone. And for a second, for a second, go to the 23rd Psalm.
When he talks about Lord’s my shepherd, I shall not want. What’s he when he gets to a point of here, he says, our funeral evil, uh, you’re riding your shaft. Comfort me, right? He’s always with him. He, he’s with me right here. I . I walk through the valley of the shallow of death. Our funeral evil for you are with me.
You are with me, and we need to remember. So no matter how isolated you feel, and I totally get it guys, I work in this, this little studio and I can go hours where I don’t hear from anyone, and you’re con and just, just cranking work, doing work. It can feel like you’re completely by yourself. I get it. How much you need to remember, you’re not alone.
This goes back again to the importance of a community. Just think about that. How about I am a masterpiece, I’m a masterpiece. Think about Psalm 1 39. I am fearfully and wonderfully made, marvelous, all your words that my soul and that my soul knows very well. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. There are no other like you.
Even if our twins out there, shout out to Dylan and Ethan. But seriously, there are no other person on this world, this planet that’s like you. You are fearfully and wonderfully and wonderfully made. Speak that. How about I am powerful, speak that I am powerful, but you shall receive power when the holy spirits come upon you.
Acts one, eight right here. You have that power. I’m a son of God. How about in Galatians for you or all sons of God through Christ, through faith in in Christ Jesus. Galatians three I. I am a son of God. Guys, these things should be getting us up. You should really start feeling, I am peaceful peace. I live you.
My peace I leave with you. My peace I give. John 14, right? Right outta John 14. How about I am free. Therefore, if the son makes you free, you should be free indeed. John eight. You are free. How about this one? For some guys I am confident. I am confident the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.
There you go. I am. I press on. How about the guys that just feel like you’re up against the wall? Persevere. Okay. Right. Brothern. I don’t count myself in, but one thing, forgetting those who are behind me and reaching forward to things. What’s your hit, Philippians. How about, I’m a overcomer. I’m a overcomer.
Right Outta James. This is my. Should it pure joy when you counter those various trials, cuz you know what those trials gonna do? They’re produce endurance and perseverance. That’s what it’s about. You can overcome. How about your believer? Whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. John 11, right? How about I am in Christ, second Corinthians five 17.
I did a spiritual kickoff on this one. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he has a new creation. Old things have passed away, but whole new things have come become new guys. You are in Christ. How about I am indestructible. I am indestructible. We are hard pressed on every set side, yet not crushed. Sec Corinthians four.
How about I am Abel. I am able. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians four 13. Now that’s one of the most misquoted verses, period misapplied verses. I’m gonna go ahead and caveat that one, but guys, remember where the strength comes from. You can do all things through Christ.
That’s it. Not through yourself, through Christ. I’m Encourag. Encourage. So encourage each other, build each other up just as you’re already doing. First Thessalonians five encourager. Maybe you need to start speaking some encouragement to others. That’s a very important thing to remember. How about I have a future?
So many of us guys don’t feel this way. Remember, I have a future right out of Jeremiah 29 11. I know the thoughts I have for you. Says, Lord of peace of evil, to give you a future and a. I have a future and you guys have a future. How about that? You are forgiven. I am forgiven you being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh has made you alive together with him having forgiven you all trespasses.
Colossians too, right? I am pure and holy. I am pure and holy. But of him ho you are in Christ Jesus. Who became for us, wisdom from God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption. Fresh Corinthians one, and God, the list goes on and on and on. These are just some truths I wanted to speak to you today.
Maybe you needed to hear one of these, maybe you really did, and I prayed that you did that. One of these truths speaks to you as you can start really, really changing how you think about yourself changing those thoughts. And understand, guys, a again, the spirit builds up. Satan tears down. My brother Steven told me that.
So shout out to you, Steven, but man, when, when we give Satan that foothold, he’s going to take it and he’s going to, he’s going to keep getting bigger and bigger. And the same thing when we give the Holy Spirit. If you give the Holy Spirit a foothold, watch out. Just get out the. As the Holy Spirit’s gonna do some powerful, amazing things, it’s gonna impact you and your walk those around you.
And guys, that’s what I’m trying to encourage you to do. I know this self-taught thing. Some of you guys may be rolling your eyes and that’s fine. That’s fun. Roll them and then when you finally realize that there’s some truth to this, come back and listen to this one again. It’ll probably make more sense.
Cause I’m telling you right now, chief center here, I gotta start doing a better job of. I gotta start doing a better job of this period. You know, I gotta start speaking truths. Like I’m a, I’m a, this is a good podcast. I’m a good podcaster, you know, I, I’m a great husband, I’m a great dad. I gotta start speaking these truths on a regular basis.
I did build that out. I built out a affirmation list. I, I, I haven’t saved in my, my phone and I can look at it and speak it. Try to do that in the mornings, you know, that’s, again, just getting started. Just, just start, start small, but start leaning in and the, I’m telling you though, the big thing for me that since reading this and thinking about it and preparing for this conversation, things like that is just be recognize, you know what the, that when these things start happening that you can take control of, you can correct it, but you have to have that recognition.
You have to see what’s going. And once you recognize it, then you can start making that corrective action. And so guys, I started this episode with the question, would you let others speak to you the way you speak to yourself? That’s how I want to end this. Because if you’re not, if you’re, if you’re, if you’re letting, my guess is you’re not gonna let others speak to you the way you speak to your.
So let’s start elevating how we speak to ourselves on a consistent basis. It’s so important, guys. Can’t emphasize it enough. So I pray this served you well, and this is a, I know we’re doing some different things at the Lion. We’re really trying to share some, some things that are on my heart that are trying to help help me grow to hopefully help you grow.
Some of these things. Again, a lot of this is driven from our community. This whole resource here on these, um, declarations came directly from our community. I want guys in there that want to be there, but I at least want you to check it out and see if you, if there’s something to this that’s going to help you grow. Because the guys that are in. And it’s a good group of guys. They are pushing each other every week and every day I see something, I learn something, I grow a little bit closer to Christ because of these men And these, these things have impacted my self-talk on how I speak to myself, the confidence I have in my abilities and abilities of this community.
So I pray that for you guys, that it helps. So again, go check out the line with M us to sign up for the, for your free 30-day trial. I would ask you, give us a rating review for the podcast. If you’ve never done that before and you listen to the lion, please just give us a rating review, five star write review that helps, that makes all the difference in the world.
Okay, so that hit that up. And guys, other than that, just disconnect with us. Share this episode particularly with someone with a fellow brother. Cause I guarantee. However many friends you have, every one of them battle this. Every one of them, we all battle this negative self-talk, so recognize that, serve them, help ’em say, Hey, this is a podcast about negative, about self-talk and what we can do about it.
I picked up a few things. It may help you just send that text message. You never know how. Just that little random act of kind. Have an impact on someone. So guys, I pray you come back Friday. I’m gonna have a couple really good tips that apply to this, to this idea of self-talk that I think will serve you.
Well have a couple dad jokes that were submitted from our community as well. So I’m looking forward to sharing them with you. So I think, uh, a fun Friday should be a fun one where we can take and actually take this a little bit further to application mode. So I pray again. Have a great day. Get after it.
Remember, would you let others speak to you the way you speak to your. And finally, also, remember, therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. We love you guys. Get after it and keep unleashing the lion within.
