In this episode:
Trust that God wants the best for you always.
How often do so many of us feel forgotten. We have to remember that we were created in the image of God and because of that we each have a purpose with our lives. The key is to discern what God desires and then pursue that with all you have. In this Fun Friday Chris covers some of the key items he learned from Dr. John Delony that will truly make an impact in your life.
Take that false narrative and cast it to the gates of hell where it belongs. Start walking in the Truth! Click To Tweet Chris Grainger
Okay. So the scripture this week is in First John. Okay. So not John first. John. First John, chapter four. Looking at two verses, verses seven and verse eight. Okay. So it starts off like this, beloved, just love how that starts. Beloved it. Beloved right there, boys. Beloved, let’s love one another. For love is from God and everyone who love who, who.
For everyone who loves, has been born of God and knows God, the one who does not love does not know God because. God is love man. That is such good scripture right there, PHAs. I don’t know if it gets you pumped up, but it gets me it pumped up. Go back and check out that spiritual kickoff if you missed that one on Monday.
Seriously, I gave you some really good insight there on how you can actually take this one little verse, this one little verse here, and apply it. Now, this one thing didn’t just hear the words. It’s another thing to actually apply it to our lives, and that’s what we try to do, particularly on their spiritual kickoff episodes.
Guys, we try to take it. Help you simplify and apply God’s word. And speaking of spiritual kickoffs, if you enjoy those, and we know that you guys do, we get a ton of downloads on our spiritual kickoff. We know that it’s resonating with you guys money through Friday inside our community. I do a spiritual kickoff every morning.
We go live, we read God’s word. We, we, we unpack it and we try to find ways to apply this stuff to, to, to our, our walk each and every day. So if you enjoy that stuff, that should be something that you could check out right now. Join the community and be part of that daily spiritual kickoff. Now, if you miss the Wednesday episode, what is wrong?
Come on. Why did you do that? And I’m just joking. Just kidding. But go back and listen to it. Seriously, because Dr. John Delony phenomenal, phenomenal What a conversation with him. He brought the truth, he brought the wisdom and insight. We talked a lot, uh, a around stories and the stories that impact our lives and that this, you know, we get told a lot of stories when we get, when we grow up.
And those stories form us, and they, they start to become who we are. We own those stories, and the next thing you know, we’re passing those stories on to the next generation or to our spouse or next thing you know, we, we we’re, we’re using those stories in our mind to hold us back. Right? The, the, the thoughts of condemnation, like, I’m no good, I’m no fit.
I, I, I’m just, I can’t do this. I suck. I’m terrible, I’m fat, I’m slow, I’m ugly, I’m stupid. Whatever it is. We use those stories. They hold us back and Dr. John brought some tremendous truth, tremendous truth, to help us understand, you know what? That’s a false narrative. We need to take that false narrative and, and, and we need to do that.
We need to cast that to the gates of hell where, where it belongs. And we need to start walking in the actual truth and the truth that we has, that we have as believers is in Jesus Christ, and start showing that love and start speaking words, those, those positive words to each other. And we also talked about the importance of making sure we’re surrounding ourselves with that community of men, particularly to help us grow.
You gotta have this guys, we are facing a pandemic of isolation. It’s everywhere. I’m telling you, these cell phones are really, they’re, they’re, they’re making the, well, the smartphones, they’re making such a negative impact on all of us, including me. I’m not lumping myself out of this. This includes me too.
I gotta do more, be more intentional about getting off that phone and getting more plugged in. And I’ll tell you one thing that’s helped me lately. I’ve been telling you guys, I’m pretty sure I shared it on the show, that we started doing Brazilian jiujitsu as a family. Even my wife does it. We, we love going, uh, my two oldest daughters do it.
Of course. My, our littles can’t, they’re too small at this point, but one, they, they will be in baby Judah. He’s gonna be a little assassins, but that’s another podcast for another day. But, What I like so much about that when we, when I get to go, when it’s my night to go with the kids, it’s basically two hours and I’m out on the mat, my phone is away.
I, I, I can’t physically touch it because, you know, I’m, I’m on the floor, I’m on the, I’m on the mat working with the, working with the, the, the, uh, the different people out there learning these skills. And if you don’t pay attention, you could get hurt. You could really get hurt and bad things could happen.
So you need to make sure that you are very careful when you’re on that mat. And I love that, just that fact of being able to disconnect. To disconnect from everything that’s going on and just focus. And how often does that happen for us guys? It’s very rare. It’s very rare that we actually are able to disconnect from the world from all the things that are happening around us and focus.
So guys, we talked a lot about that stuff. I just had so much fun talking with Dr. John Deloney. He was an incredible guest. If you missed it, go back and listen to it, guys. I’m telling you, there’s gonna be some insights and some that you’ll be able to take and start walking out and applying to your daily walk at your house, at your career, uh, at your church, wherever you are.
He brings some real truth. So I hope you enjoyed that one. Let me know if you, how much you liked that one too. I think he needs to be one. We need to have back on the show in the future for sure. So on a fun Friday, you know, we’re gonna give you a health tip, a well tip and a self tip. So I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and for, in this particular, um, episode for John, I wanted to pull a couple of his tips out from his book.
Okay. Again, his book, we’ll get to that here in a little bit, but it talks a a lot around how we can own our past to change our future. So the health tip that I thought was really good, I actually started doing this one. Write down your thoughts. I know it sounds simple, but this is straight from Dr. John.
And the fastest way to start taking control of your thoughts is to become aware of them. Okay? So when you take it from your mind and you actually put that pen to paper, something powerful begins to happen. Fellas, I’m telling you, when it’s black and white, you can control it better. You can actually control it better.
So if you have some something that’s unwanted that keeps popping in your mind, take the time, slow down and write it. Okay? And this should be something that you keep up with. Now you need to keep this notebook clo close by. So for, for Dr. John, he talks about, he always keeps something close by for him. For me, I have this little black notebook right here.
It goes with me pretty much everywhere. And that’s where I started writing my notes at. Right? So whatever it works, maybe you just wanna use your phone. Okay? But I think there’s still something that’s even more powerful when you actually pull a pen or a pencil out and write it down. And the more you write, the more you write, think about this, the more space you create between you and those thoughts.
Okay? So those negative thoughts of condemnation that so many of us have, you know, I’m too slow, I’m too fat, I’m too dumb. Whatever they are, start writing that stuff down. Take control with of those dots, okay? And start replacing them with, with, with truth. Because once you see it in black and white, you going to know that it’s a lie.
You going to see what’s from Satan? You gonna see that? No, that ain’t true. Go back to what Dr. John and I talked about. Hey, every now and then, just say, Nope, nope. Not gonna believe that one. Write it down, cast it out, put some gap between you and that thought and start replacing it. So write those thoughts down, guys.
I’m telling you it’s a health tip, that it’s a such a simple health tip that I think if we actually apply it, it’s gonna make a big impact for you. All right. Now for your wealth tip. Okay? For you guys who have a sole proprie proprietorship or a single member L L C, I got a simple rule for you. It’s called the Augusta Rule.
Now this doesn’t apply to all you listeners, I totally get that. But if you have a single, a sole proprietor proprietorship or a single me, a single member llc, there is such thing. It’s called the the Augusta Rule. And essentially what’s going on with that is you can rent out your home to your business for up to 14 days every year.
Okay? And basically what you do is you rent out your primary residence to that L L C or to corp. 14 non-consecutive days in any year and you deduct those rental costs from your business because this, this really originated, I thought this was interesting cuz I used to go to Augusta a lot. No, I’m not a golfer, but I would go down there for my, for my other job.
I, I, we had a a, a division and Augusta, Georgia. I always thought it was, it was amazing. I always stay, usually I would stay at like the Hampton down there, uh, in Augusta, uh, on, on the side of town where our, where our business was. And, you know, you get a, a hotel room for a hundred to 120 a night during the week.
You know, it wasn’t, it wasn’t weekend rates. I was always usually there like on a Monday night or Tuesday night or Wednesday, sometimes during the middle of the week. But come Augusta, when the master comes, when the master tournament comes, bro, Those prices, I mean, that same hotel room would, would sometimes go to a thousand dollars a night.
I mean, it was unbelievable. So I always had to plan my trips to Augusta, uh, particularly in the April timeframe when, when the masters, uh, happens around that. So what they did, Congress actually ca they, they ha they came up with a rule and the government stepped in and they said that they, they, they didn’t want the, the, the, the people there to take advantage of that.
So they made this Augusta rule. So basically it was for everyone, right? So you can, you can actually have your rent, your residents out to your llc. So do your research. And if you qualify, hey, take advantage of the Augusta rule. Why not? Why not do that? That’s a simple way. That you can actually do that and sa and have some savings right there.
Okay? You don’t even have to rent it out to someone else. You can rent it to literally to yourself on, on different ways. Maybe do a business meeting and things like that. Just like you rent a you go, you go rent a hotel room, rent your house out, okay? Let’s just check that out. Google the Augusta rule for if you’re that LL C or if you’re that sole proprietor, proprietor, and see if that could be something that would apply, that would help you Now for your self tip.
Kind of go back to, to, um, Dr. Deloney here. He talks a lot about bricks. We carry these bricks around, right? And these bricks are just things that happen in our life. The tip for you here is you need to know your spouse’s bricks, okay? Cause we collect them. We know what ours are. We collect them throughout our life.
And those bricks, oftentimes he toss as we put ’em in our, in a backpack, right? And just like a rut, a, a, a rut pack that just gets heavier and heavier and heavier. And they can damage us. They can hold us back, right? And where they, where are they holding us back from? From accomplishing what God has desired for us for to do.
So this is a very effective tool that the evil one uses. I’m telling you, I’m telling you, he uses this stuff as a lead of your family. You need to know where your wife may be struggling, okay? This takes a high level of vulnerability here, guys, right? And you gotta remember first and foremost, If you wanna lead, you better go first.
You better get used to doing it first. Leaders do go first, so maybe you need to start by sharing some of your own bricks, that that could be a way you get that stuff going. You know, for me and my wife is when I’ll start talk, telling her openly about my anxiety and how, how that impacted me and what, and, and even now, if that, if that raises his head, Hey, this has been a, a tough day, or here, here’s a trigger.
Hey, here, here’s this. This is going on. This is stressing me. A lot of times that just leads to prayer, but be willing to be vulnerable. Okay. This doesn’t happen overnight, but it does need a start date. Okay? It does need a start date. Don’t keep pushing off those hard conversations, fellas. I’m telling you.
Cuz it, it, it, it’s, you need to give spirit, the spirit room to work. And that takes obedience, okay? Cuz I want your marriage not just to be good. I don’t want it to be great. I want it to be incredible. And you do that by knowing your spouse at an intimate level more than just the surface level. Planning the week and planning the meals and planning the carpool, and even planning vacations like, no man, that’s just logistics.
Move it up a couple levels in connection and intimacy and know her bricks and help her. They can get those off of her so she can stand without that stuff holding her down. And remember, there’s no combination for those in Christ Jesus that includes you and her. All right guys. There are your tips for the week, so you gotta write down your thoughts.
You need to make sure if you have that, un understand, if you qualify for that Augusta rules, you need to know your spouse’s bricks. So guys, lean into those now for your book of the week this week. Big surprise here, but right here, I’m holding up for you guys that are on YouTube. By the way, if you haven’t subscribed to our YouTube channel, what are you waiting on?
