In this episode:
You are not defined by your career.
If you are ready to find fulfillment that comes with aligning your talents with what God desires it is possible. We are here to help and let us know how these episodes have opened your eyes.
Don't worry about the rest of the noise out there. Lean into the work, and with all you can, to serve him. Be that light in your workplace. Click To Tweet Chris Grainger
And by now you should have this scripture down. Guys, it’s only one verse. Okay? So it was Ecclesiastes chapter two verse 24. A person can do nothing better and dis eat. And drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see is from the hand of God Guys, that’s a powerful little verse right there.
So again, the work you do matters. God wants that satisfaction. He wants you to find that satisfaction in it. So making sure that it’s from his hand. And how do you do that? You make sure you’re being obedient to what the spirit is calling you to do, fellas, and that means your work, your work matters.
Doesn’t mean you have to be in the ministry. No. That means you have to be doing the work that he’s called you to do and then be the light. That could be construction, that could be a lawyer, that could be a doctor, that could be a factory worker, that could be a truck driver, a salesperson. It doesn’t matter.
The work you’ve been called to do is important to you and God, and that’s it. Don’t worry about the rest of the noise out there, and then lean into that work and do it. With all you can to serve him. Be that light in your workplace. And guys, I’m gonna tell you what, you’re gonna find satisfaction like you’ve never thought was existed, so seriously lean into that.
It’s something to consider as you move forward. This week we spent a lot of time talking about our wealth and our careers. Okay? Had that conversation with Ken Coleman. You haven’t listened to that yet. I highly encourage you to go back. Listen to that episode. Ken is a master for communicator. He’s a wonderful coach.
He’s written several great books that help people get clarity on their careers and what they are called to do and how they can actually move to do the work with purpose. So we spent a lot of time talking about that clarity and what does purpose look like, what does dream jobs look like? Do they still exist?
You know what I mean? Everything we, we, we covered so much in a very short period of time. So I think that’s gonna be something guys that’s gonna help you think through the, your talent, your passion, your missions, uh, all the stuff that you’re created to do, your duty to get out there and do the work.
Right. We’re not called just to be sidelines guys. We have to get out there. But one of the things that really resonated the most to me when I sit back and think about my time with Kim was he mentioned fear, doubt, and pride, fear, doubt, and pride. Those three, he says you’re, if you don’t have any of those three going on and your professional career, then you’re probably just sitting on the sidelines.
And I equated that as being like a lukewarm, right? Lukewarm Christians, and we know what that looks like. They’re not trying to do anything to move forward. Same thing could be with your career, so that if you don’t have any of that going on in your career, are you really leaning in and trying to do the work that he’s called you to do?
I can tell you firsthand that, that I feel a lot of these at the same time every week at the line within us, cuz we’re trying to grow, trying to do these things, uh, to help do the, you know, do the work to serve you guys. And at the same time, I’ve made it very clear that this is something that we want to be able to do full time.
There’s a lot of fear behind that. There’s still a lot of doubt. There are a lot of great podcasters out there. Praise the Lord. There’s a lot of good messages getting out there, and we’re just using the talent the god’s giving me the preferably bring you guys some information that you enjoy, that you find value in that helps you grow.
But guys, they’re still Satan’s attacking all the time. Do you think the, the line, the Satan wants to line within us to have any success whatsoever? No, he wants us to go down flaming and he’s gonna do all he can to take us out. And he’s gonna plant seeds of doubt. He’s gonna make fearful. Things come in my mind about all these, you know, little kids we have running around here at this house prayer.
Good little women. We have ’em, and you know how I’m not gonna be able to take care of them if I try to do the, do take care of them on what’s the line within us alone? Look, I just don’t, I don’t believe ’em. I rebuke those lies. And you have to too. Whatever work you’re being called to do. Obviously we want to take good.
You know, smart steps. But ultimately you just need to be obedient to his spirit and be obedient to what he’s calling you to do and make sure you’re doing that what the, what the reverence for him is, Lord. And guys, there’s gonna be a piece about that. There’s gonna be satisfaction about that, that you’re not gonna find anywhere else.
So I really hope you enco, you en you enjoy that conversation with Ken. Go back and check it out. If you haven’t yet, I think that’s, you’ll, you’ll find a lot of, of good little takeaways there, uh, as Ken shared with us. Now, let’s get into our Fun Friday, health, wealth, and self tips for you guys. I love doing these each and every week.
You guys seem to enjoy ’em too, so definitely I looking forward to sharing this with you again. Health, mind and body, wealth, career, finances, self, husband and dad. Okay, that’s rule we’re talking about. So for your health tip this week, This is more of a mindset thing, but I want you guys to consider an open mindset versus a closed, okay.
I, I go to this, this group called Vistage every month, and it’s, it’s a group that I’m a part of and we had a speaker one time and, and the speaker, she did a phenomenal job and she actually, for those watching on YouTube, I’ll show you, she had this thing where you put your hands up by a above your head and she said, this was, this is your open mindset.
So it’s kind of like a, a crown that you would wear like when you were a kid or something like that. And then for a closed mindset, she would close her. Her hands over top of her head. Like you just like, like you’re holding your hat during the, during a windstorm or something, right? So open mindset, closed mindset.
And the whole idea was this imagery around if it’s open, you can, you do allow thoughts and ideas to come in that do not limit ourselves. Okay? The closed mindset is a limited mindset belief. That’s really what it’s about. They’re like, that looks like I can’t do this. I’m not smart enough. I’m not good at it.
This is all I’m qualified for. There’s no way in the world that that, that I could ever be successful or something like this. That’s closed mindset and that’s ripping hope right out of us guys. We have to just rebuke that stuff. Have an open mindset, right? Hey, I don’t know how to do this right now. You know, I’m going to figure this out.
I’m going to get good at this. It may take me some time, but I’m committed to this journey. God has called me to this. Therefore, I know that the lies from the evil one are just that lies, and I am not gonna believe them. So that mindset guys matters. I can promise you this mindset matters. So make sure you’re having that open versus a closed mindset and then lean in and see what guys are telling you.
And guys, if you do this particularly around your careers, I’m telling you, you’re gonna have an opportunity. He’s gonna start speaking to you. He’s gonna start dropping these little nuggets to you. And if you actually listen to them and don’t put God in a box, take him out of that box and lean in and start exploring these areas.
I’m telling you, fellas, you’re gonna find a freedom. You’re gonna find a potential new path to work that is meaningful, that provides for you and your family, and that ultimately you can be building the kingdom. You’re gonna be in a, in a much better mindset space to be able to share to gospel. I’m telling you guys, there’s something around this mindset area that we need to be thinking about as Christian men’s have that open versus closed mindset is very important.
Okay, now, wealth tip, let’s get, let’s get clear here on something. You need to get clarity on your gifts so that you can build wealth, okay? That starts with understanding your talent. Right now, your talent leads to your passion, leads to your mission, but your talent. Think about this. What is it that you do best?
And I really equate this talent thing to think. Think through when? What do you get compliments on from others? Okay. People may say, Hey, you know, you’re really good at this. Or When I think about this, when I have this problem, I know you can figure it out. You know, for me at the line within us, it’s been around connection, relationships, and networks.
You know, I’ve just been a, God’s given me a gift of being able to really connect with people, to be able to be a good listener and ultimately try to help them get connected with people. Maybe I’m not always the one that can help them, but I can get resources to help them figure out. Where they’re struggling and how, and how they can move forward.
And it’s just been a blessing. I mean, I think podcasting has really been a, an opportunity for me to do that, to lean into that talent. But guys, again, I have an engineering degree, right? You don’t think about engineering and podcasting. I usually don’t go together, particularly around communities and networks and, uh, serving and coaching.
They, the you, you don’t think that that is a, a traditional path. And you know what? It’s not. And I’m okay with not having a tr a traditional path. I want to have God’s path. And when it comes to your talents, get clear on what those are. Listen to those little cue those cues from others. Then the, the, your, your passion.
What do you love the most? What do you most excited about? What do you get, uh, amped up over? Hey, for you, maybe it is, uh, entrepreneurship. Maybe it’s real estate. Maybe it’s sales. You just really love sales because you know, if you’re an effective salesperson, ultimately you care about serving others, right.
Maybe it’s been, uh, and working in manufacturing, there’s tons of fulfillment to be in field out there working with your hands or maybe being a machinist and watching a big piece of metal be transformed into this piece of art that you know is going to absolutely serve a purpose and help someone accomplish something.
Guys, I’m just telling you, there’s, there’s ways to find meaning and passion in your work. So what do you enjoy the most? What do you love the most? And then think about your mission. What results of your work that matter? Ultimately, this is more, as Christian men, we need to be thinking about his mission.
Focus on God’s mission and what can you do. And on your little st here on Earth is not very long guys. Let’s just face it with the, with the, with the way, uh, of how fast time goes. What can you do to align to the work that he’s called you to do? There you go, guys. Get clear on your gifts. If you do that, you’re going to be able to build wealth, okay?
We know that. Now, for your self tip, I want you guys to think about this. You need to be your spouse’s cheerleader, not their critic when it comes to their career. All right? Now listen to me here, fellas. I’m telling you. You gotta encourage them. You gotta encourage them to try that new thing or to just try, take that class to start, to start that side hustle, whatever.
Whatever it is. Your words have power and we have to be careful to not always criticize, right? We should be the ones building up our spouses never tearing down, right? You’re on the same team with this, with this, with this woman. Remember that, and you, and they need to hear. That, uh, that you are behind them and they need to hear that you believe in them.
They need to hear that, you know, that no matter what, if they put their heart to it and God’s caught ’em to it, they will be successful. And they need to hear that often. Guys, don’t fall into the critic camp. Don’t do that. There’s enough going out there to pushing back against our women. These days. They don’t.
The last thing they need is their husband. Being that critic. Now again, if they’re out there getting ready to do something that’s gonna harm them or it’s gonna potentially really damage some things, it’s okay to ask questions. And I’m, I’m just saying, don’t be a critic. Right? Being there cheerly, root ’em on.
Let ’em know you’re behind them. Serve ’em. Help ’em grow. You never know, guys, just how, one little word of encouragement from you. As their husband, how that can impact them, their confidence, the person that they see in the mirror when they look back. I’m just telling you the, it’s incredible the amount of power we men we have, and we need to make sure we harness that and we use that for good, to lean in and serve our spouses.
Okay. That’s what, that’s what it’s all about. All right guys, so there’s your three tips. Your health tip, wealth tip, self tip. That health tip was have that open versus a closed mindset. That’s very important. Your wealth tip. Get clear, clear on your gifts so that you can start building that wealth in your self tip.
I need you to be your spouse’s cheerleader, not their critic. Think about those three guys. Hopefully one of them resonates with you pretty much, and hope all three of ’em do, but start applying some of these things, guys. So you can’t just be a hero podcast. You have to actually do this stuff, right? So get up there and try that stuff.
Now, your book of the week, this week for our guys on YouTube, you’re seeing a copy of it right here for you guys that are listening, it’s called From Paycheck to Purpose, the Clear Path to Doing Work You Love From Ken Coleman. Dave Ramsey wrote The Ford. It’s a great book. I really enjoyed the book. Uh, I enjoyed meeting Ken.
He’s great. Again, a proximity principle is, is his other book. I’ve, I’ve actually owned both of them. They’re really great resources. I’ve, I’ve lent this, uh, proximity principle I bought, I let, I, I’ve bared that one out one time to a couple of buddies of mine who were wanting to get some clarity on things they should be studying and how should they be networking with others.
So there’s some really good practical advice in both of them guys. I love Ken. It was just the person he is, the, the, the, the transparency. He was, I mean, we, we had a fun time recording together. He actually had some things pop up when we were recording together with his kids’, uh, cars and stuff. It was funny just to see the real side of him where you, you know, we always see these guys who have this, these personalities.
And you don’t ever think about them like really just having like life, right? You just think this is the, but no, this kid’s got three kids and one of ’em had a car broke down. So it was, it was really just neat just to see that, and for him just to be, hey, he’s just another guy out here doing what he can to serve his family, to support him and to help others.
And it was very encouraging guys. So anyway. Let’s generate to our dad jokes this week. I know you’re excited about these. Both of these dad jokes, by the way, were submitted by members of our community. Our community is growing big time guys. So if you wanna check that out again, the line with the US to join our community.
So, dad joke number one, how do you count cows? With a calculator. All right, so that was submitted by old Julian Martinez. Julian’s a big time listener to show wonderful member of our community. Yeah, I just love when Julian, anytime he enters a meeting or pops into one of our discussions, He’s just got this light about him.
Just a fun loving guy, just really, and just, it’s been a ble, just a blessing to get to know him, uh, since he’s joined the community. So thank you Julian, for that entry. Uh, and we’re gonna stick on with the farm theme guys. So we got our next one. It’s kind of like a three-part joke. Okay. It’s all right. So what do you call cow with no legs, ground beef.
What do you call a pig with no legs? A ground hog. And what do you call a dog with no legs? Well, it doesn’t matter. He ain’t coming anyway, so there you go. That’s submitted by our member Adam Rushing. Adam has been a long time member of our line within this community, way back, even before we really had the official community going.
Adam’s been a, a, a big supporter of the show. Uh, and I can tell you what he, he runs, facilitates our Saturday morning Bible study. I’m 100%. Community driven. I don’t go to that actually with my discipleship group on Saturday. So Adam is, he’s out there doing his thing each and every week. So it was an honor just to have his, he, when he submitted a dead joke, I said, bro, we’re definitely putting this in into the show.
So Adam, thank you man, you, you do so much to make our community stronger. He’s also a big Ramsey guy. Loves, loves a lot of stuff. He’s a financial coach. He does a lot of thing to help our community grow in that area of finances. So, uh, Adam, man, thank you so much for this, for this submittal. Uh, it’s really cool to get these out here for you and Julian, both of you guys rocks, so thank you so much.
So again, the adjunct number one, how do you count cows with a cow chelator Dad, jack number, dad joke number two. What do you call cow? O legs, ground beef. What do you call a pig with no legs? Ground hog. And what do you call a dog with no legs? It doesn’t matter. He ain’t coming. Anyway, so there you go guys.
Let us know which one you like the best one or number two, and you can just submit your vote. Check with us on to do that, by the way.
