Welcome to The Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I’m your host, chris Granger. Let’s jump in. All right, guys, this is your fun Friday episode. I know you’re excited. Hey, you made it through another week, right, and you are here, so let’s get into it. Let’s have some fun. I got a lot of things. Hopefully that’s going to help you grow, but we’re going to always start off, like we do every episode, with scripture.
00:24
Okay, so this week we were in the book of Colossians, colossians chapter one, and we only looked at one verse this week. It’s verse 27. So it says to whom God willed to be made known what the wealth of the glory, of this mystery among the Gentiles is, the mystery that is Christ in you, the hope of glory. That’s a beautiful verse, guys, such a beautiful verse, but it’s also very impactful. I mean, as you start thinking about the hope of glory, what that looks like in the mystery man. There’s a lot to unpack there. So, if you missed the spiritual kickoff, go check that spiritual kickoff off out, guys, because I’m telling you, it really took a lot of time to try to simplify and apply that one verse that you can start walking out that hope. We all have that hope of glory. Let’s lean into it. Let’s actually exercise that muscle and use it. So this could be one that you can actually start simplifying and applying into your daily walk.
01:18
Now, if you missed our episode on Wednesday, the Meet episode, this week we had Dr Bruce Hebel from Forgiving Forward here. It’s a wonderful conversation. The things that stood out the most to me as I sit back and think through talking with Dr Bruce is just around the torment. I think so many guys out there that I’ve talked to I know you guys talked to as well when you’re in that state of unforgiveness, you’re just torturing yourself. That torment is real. I get everyone.
01:51
You guys are hurt and it can be hard to forgive, but you really, that torment is just tearing us down. It’s kind of like a cancer. It just keeps eating away, eating away. I don’t want that for you guys. I want you to have that John 1010 life right. You have to live life and have it abundantly. You can’t do that if you’re always bitter.
02:12
Eor should not be your spirit animal fellas. I mean seriously, come on now We need to be thinking through. Hey, if we have the light. If we’re following Jesus and we have that light of Christ within us right here, that says in Colossians us, we have hope, we have peace, and the only peace you’re going to find this side of heaven is in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Imagine walking through this earth and the crazy stuff that’s happening in our world right now and not having a relationship with Jesus. That’d be something to be scared about, right?
02:47
So, forgiveness, guys, that torment is real. When you’re harming it, when you’re just holding on to that unforgiveness, you’ve just that torment is real, that torture is real, and I want to free you guys from that. I really want to free you from it. And remember, you’re forgiving wounds, not people. I think that stood out to me. I was like, hmm, that’s a little bit easier to swallow. You can make this thing super personal And it’s like you know, hey, that do you know this person more? But what you need to understand is you’re forgiving the wounds that impact you And when you forgive them of those wounds, that process gets a lot easier And at the same time, you can move forward. So, guys, i hope you enjoyed that one.
03:31
I mean the whole idea of learning how to forgive, choosing to forgive, teaching to forgive. I think that stuff is important. I think it’s gonna help all of us as Christian men. But forgiveness is not a weakness, right, it’s what we’re called to do. I mean, he’s right, he called it out in Matthew when, through the Lord’s prayer around forgiveness, we are commanded to forgive others. Right, i mean, that is the true commandment right there in the Lord’s prayer. And it’s hard, and I think that’s why Jesus put it there, cause he knows we needed it to be reminded of that. Cause Dr Bruce talked about you know, we all know the Lord’s prayer. We say it over and over and over And you know why don’t we do it? Cause we need that reminder. So hopefully you guys enjoyed that conversation with him. Go back and check it out for sure. Definitely check out the resources that he had available And if you’re struggling with something with forgiveness, hey, just reach out, cause I guarantee you’re not the only one here that struggles with this.
04:25
Okay, now let’s get into our Fun Friday tips. I always enjoy this part. I know you guys do too. So our tips this week we’ve got a health tip, got a wealth tip, got a self tip. Now this week I try to do every one of these tips around the idea of forgiveness, so that you can actually start walking this stuff out even a little bit more.
04:41
Okay Now, the health tip kind of already alluded to it a little bit, but you got to extract bitterness. Okay, now, remember what I told him at the beginning, cause it was in his book. It was a quote he had I forget who the gentleman he had a quote from but bitterness is the poison that we drink. So imagine yourself you drink a poison and that you hope that poison is going to make someone else die. So let’s just say there’s a bob out there and Bob, you and I, we butt it heads And I’m bitter. So I’m bitter at you, i’m mad at you, i don’t like you. I may have go as far to say I hate you. And you know what I’m gonna do I’m gonna drink this poison, i’m gonna drink it And I hope you drop dead. Bob Sounds ridiculous, right? It sounds absolutely ludicrous. That’s what happens when we let that bitterness take root, right?
05:30
And for me, hey, i can look at other podcasters, you know what, and I get really down on myself Like, well, man, look at their guest, or look at how professional they are, or just look at their website, or look at all the look, look, look, look, look, and all that does is just rob me of joy, rob me. It doesn’t serve me, it definitely doesn’t serve God. Okay So, and I have to realize, i have to tell myself you know what These other podcasters they’ve been blessed with the gifts as well. They’re doing good works, right, and what he’s doing at the line is incredible. And how easily I forget that.
06:06
And the only way that I know to extract bitterness, guys, is you got to recognize it. You got to recognize it. You can’t call it for what it is. You got to start playing it with some, replacing it with some truth, and that comes directly from the Holy Spirit. So, guys, i really encourage you to extract that bitterness, get it out of your life. I mean, it needs to be like that cancer. You got to do everything you can to get it out and be aggressive with it. Be aggressive with that treatment. Extract that bitterness, you know, and then, once you get that poison out of your body, guys, it’s going to be so freeing. You’ll be able to breathe easier. You’ll just have a little bit lighter walk in your step. So I really encourage you to lean in, get that bitterness out and let’s move into the light.
06:49
All right now, how about a wealth tip? So here’s a wealth tip. I was thinking about this one. I was like what could I do for a wealth tip for these guys for this week around forgiveness? And what came to mind? Because I think you guys need to forgive yourself for the financial mistakes of your past. Think about that. How many times we hold on to all of our stakes and our financial stakes and say I’m never gonna get out of this? I can’t believe I did something. It’s time to do something about it, right? Yeah, i hear a lot about buyers from Morris, or that mountain of debt is so large it’s just all hope is gone. You know what. You’re right unless you do something about it. But if you do something about it, you can flip this thing. It’s time to step up, make some changes, be the steward that guys called you to be.
07:35
Okay, i’m not telling you that you gotta go cut up all your credit cards. I’m not gonna pull all Ramsey solutions on you right now, but I am telling you to pay attention. Paying personal finance is really about 10% knowledge and 90% of habits. So get some education around there and put that into action. Guys, get some education to put that into action. We even I wrote a personal finance one-on-one e-book. Maybe you just wanna get started with just the basics of understanding there? Go to the website, get a copy of that e-book. Guys, i’m telling you, resources like that will help you. Just be the steward that God has called you to be.
08:10
It doesn’t happen overnight, so you do have to take a little bit of intentional action here. Guys, again, you gotta actually do something, but just forgive yourself. Forgive yourself for those mistakes, learn, move forward, grow. Okay. Now your self-tip. Yeah, how can you be a better husband and a better dad around this? I want you guys to think about this. I want you to be the chief forgiver and apologizer in your home. Now. This includes you’re with your wife as well as those little kids running around. Okay, maybe not so little kid, maybe you got teenagers. You definitely gotta practice and forgive them to stay right.
08:46
But seriously, somewhere along the way, we forgot the impact that we have as the leaders of our families. If you are a man and you’re listening to this and you have your family, you are a leader. Okay, you are a leader. Period. Now the world’s gonna push back on that. They don’t like when I say stuff like that, i’m gonna tell you what. That is truth, and it aligns with God’s word, and I don’t really care what the world says. I wanna be even more in line with God, that’s it.
09:09
So take the lead right here. Create a culture of forgiveness in your home by being the example. Give it, receive it, ask for it, make it a part of your daily walk. I’m telling you, fellas, you cannot be a historian in your house, okay, because that historian, when things come up, you go. Well, you remember that stuff you did to you. No, no, no, stop, stop, stop, stop, don’t do it. Forgive, move forward. I’m telling you, fellas, your family’s counting on you to do this. So be that chief forgiver and apologize. You are a headed house, right You are. You gotta lead, so you might as well lead effectively, okay.
09:47
So there are your three tips. Your health tip I want you to extract bitterness. Extract it, get it out. Whatever you gotta do, extract it, get it out, recognize it and then call it out. Start a placement with some truths from the Holy Spirit.
09:59
Well, tip man, you gotta start forgiving yourself about those financial mistakes. I get it. You shouldn’t have bought that truck. You shouldn’t have bought that gun. You shouldn’t have bought that boat. Whatever it is, okay, fine, okay It is. You got it. Now Figure out what you’re gonna do moving forward. Fix it. You can’t correct this. You have the power. You are as the leader of your home. You have the power to correct your finances. You know it’s your spouse. If you’re not married, get with someone who can be a good financial steward council and figure it out.
10:30
Self tip I want you to be that chief forgiver and apologizer in your home. I’m telling you, fellas, you gotta step up here, you gotta take some action. Be that chief forgiver and apologizer. All right, fellas. So hopefully this week you know what the book of the week’s gonna be Forgiving Forward, unleashing the Forgiveness Revolution. I thought it was really good.
