In this episode:
Ready to transform your life with the astounding power of faith and technology?
Our journey this week traverses the inspiring message of Colossians 3:17, leading you to live a life of gratitude and devotion in the name of Lord Jesus. We had an enlightening conversation with Ryan Beck, the techno-wizard behind Pray.com, who shared with us how technology is opening new avenues for spreading the gospel. All the while reminding us that traditional church attendance is but one facet of our spiritual journey.
Pray.com is building resources to help you grow closer to God with technology. That's incredible, and like the hybrid model, you're not just going to church traditionally anymore. Click To Tweet Chris Grainger

Test test. Welcome to The Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I’m your host, chris Granger. Let’s jump in. All right, guys, fun Friday time. You made it to the end of the week. I know about you. Whenever I get to Friday, it’s like hi, lilia, let’s go All right Now, before we get too far into our content, today we’re going to dig into our scriptures.
00:25
The scripture this week has been in the book of Colossians. Okay. So looking at one verse, chapter three, verse 17,. Is that 17? Okay, whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God, the Father. Love that verse, guys. I spent a lot of time on the spiritual kickoff. I’m packing that one Build back and check that out, and I just think it’s one of those. It is written that we need to have in our life.
00:53
Now, our meetup episode this week was with Ryan Beck from Praycom, and Ryan is the CTO. He’s one of the four original founders of Praycom. That platform is doing incredible things out there. guys, i’m telling you, it’s amazing to see the things that Praycom is doing to people, that they’re reaching, how they’re making an impact on the gospel just the people that they’re serving. So definitely check that out. It was a good conversation. We talked a lot about the technology as the CTO of what from his seat, how that technology has evolved and the importance of being able to be adaptive and evolving to be able to serve people in the future. The whole digital presence. It’s here, fellas. I mean, think about it. Smartphones have only been out for a little over a decade. Just think about that for a second. Just a little over a decade, and think about how much they’ve impacted everything. So when you hear resources like this, like Praycom well, they’re building sources to help you grow closer to God with technology. That’s incredible, right, and he mentioned it like the hybrid model, where you’re not just going to church traditionally anymore.
01:57
There’s so many other ways you can grow just outside of your local church. Again, a supplement is not a replacement for your local church. You still need to be serving at your local church, but that’s usually one or two services a week at most. What about the rest of the week? You need to be plugging into different areas. You need to be listening to different people as well as you grow. I think. For me personally, i had three or four different pastors I listened to every week because I want to be fed in different areas. I still have my local pastors I listened to, for sure, as I serve at the church, but I need to be fed in other areas too because it helps me grow. So this is again resources out there is going to help you guys grow to be those leaders.
02:33
So hopefully you enjoyed that conversation with Ryan. I definitely did. It was a lot of fun working with him. Great guy, big time runner. He was talking about the runs he does before we recorded out there in California. Something he has to look out for on the constant is rattlesnakes. I said, yeah, well, that’s why I don’t run in California. There you go, man. So I just your boy. Here at Chris I went. I didn’t lie with them. This does not do snakes, fellas. So that’s just part of it. It’s a miracle, by the way. So anyway, we’ll hopefully enjoy that one. We’re going to get right into our fun.
03:04
Friday our tips of the week. We got our health tip, our wealth tip and our self tip. And again, health. Remember. Health is your mind and your body. Wealth is your career and finances, and yourself as being husbands and dads, okay. So it’s usually the mindset I try to get in when I put these tips together.
03:21
Now, this first tip actually came from Lucas, who’s a big time member of our community. Lucas is always just doing so much to serve our community. He’s one of our pod leaders. He’s in so many of the meetings. He usually comes up to Thursday night Bible study a lot. The couple’s like him and his wife. They usually like to come together. He’s just doing some incredible things. He lives out in Utah guys. So he brought this up. This is what he does when he reads the Bible and it’s an academic and he calls speak And it’s the.
03:51
S is sent to avoid, the P is promises made, the E is an example to follow, a would be action to take. Normally that’s kind of related to things that we need to avoid, like sin, and then K is the knowledge of God. So when he says that and reads the Bible, he’s thinking through that acronym Okay, what is God’s word trying to show me? Okay, what sin do I need to avoid? All right, what’s God’s promise right here? All right, who do I need to start making an example so that I can start emulating and follow that. And then what actions do I need to take because I see that? And then what is God ultimately trying to partake of me with with knowledge, now that I’m spending some time with him? So great way to study the word to when you so, when you send out, you have that quiet time where you actually open up God’s word and you’re reading it.
04:39
That acronym speak, was. I just thought it was a pretty good tip. When he brought up I’m like bro, i’m totally using that for a for a fun Friday tip of the week He said absolutely So maybe that’s one she guys want to write down. You know, but put that speak, use that speak acronym out there. We’ll probably put that, we’ll try to put that out there on our social medias and things like that as well too, so you guys can see that and not be able to to Utilize that as you move forward to what, when you study God’s word. Now for the wealth tip, and it was gonna kind of tie directly into our book that we can not gonna give you that yet, though, but the for the wealth tip is one of the prominent tips that Peter Lynch Okay, he’s a renowned investor, guys you guys probably have heard of him before.
05:20
He emphasizes this invest in what You know. Just think about that. Invest in what you know. So this encourages people, when you’re investing, to focus on your industries, companies or products that you have a good understanding of. Okay, and that too, if you’re using your everyday life, it’s probably a pretty good idea to look into that company. Lynch, he actually believed that when individual investors had, they actually have an advantage over Institutional investors because they can identify the investment opportunities by observing the products or services they use and enjoy. Think about that for a second by you. Just you apply your knowledge and your insights from your personal experience, you can make better investment decisions. So, lynch, when he was advising people, he advised them to do their research and analysis that they’re familiar with on those companies And then examine those companies against the competitive advantages and understand that and believe in the, with Confidence, the companies that they are investing with.
06:19
Okay, guys, so it’s important to know. Look, there’s, there’s lots of things we can want to talk about investing that can be overlooked and she may, may miss. But What when he talks about investing what you know approach can be valuable. It’s just not the sole basis for investment decision, fellas. So you still got to do your research, you get it, still got to use reverse diversification. You still have to have that long-term perspective when it comes to investing.
06:42
But I’m gonna tell you, there are so many resources or resources out there, and one of the best that I’ve run across By far is investing for beginners. That podcast is out there, fellas. Go check that out. We’ll try to put that link in a show that for you, for you guys as well. But if you want to learn about investing They’ve been a long time supporter of the line with Dennis. I love what those guys are doing there. They’ve been out there for a long time just teaching the basics of investing. So if you haven’t added investing for beginners to your podcast list yet, so totally do that right now. I mean, go ahead and add that to your list of put that in your queue. They actually have a letter that comes out once a month. It’s a great resource. So if you’re looking to learn more about the stock market and things that are going out there from an investment standpoint, so a great resource. I happen to know the guys over there investing for beginners. They’re there, incredible guys, love them, love them to death. The stuff they’re doing is definitely making an impact. So how? I encourage you guys to check that out All right now for a self tip, kind of going back to this idea of prayer, because we spent a lot of time on Ryan this week.
07:44
Then we’re thinking about that. Create a sacred space. Think about that. You know, doesn’t a the sacred space for your prayer to have that impact that you’re looking for to Ultimately build that relationship with God? That’s what it’s all about now.
07:57
This could be so as simple as you know. You set up, maybe a little corner of a room, or there’s just a fine chair that you said that you sit in, or Something that just puts you in a state of peace. Maybe it’s going outside, on the front porch or on the deck, or just going Sending somewhere. Maybe it’s your bathroom I don’t know where it’s that for you guys, but you need to have that space customized. And what I would recommend you do put some things in that space That’s gonna remind you of God’s blessings, maybe some pictures of your family. There’s some pictures of places God is taking you. you know, just surround yourself with the blessings, because it’s too easy to just get into the trap of. I need more. I need more. Don’t forget what God has done for you, right, move those distractions out of the way and Focus and be able to connect with our Creator.
08:48
I’m just telling you, guys, this is, if you, if you’re really intentional about your environment too, it will make an impact for you. You know the one reason why we completely redid the entire studio here in the lion in us, so I could one focus primarily on serving the podcast, yes, and serving you guys with the different types of content we have. But the bigger thing was just so that I can actually think and have my one-on-one time with God. So when I sit down in this chair and I open up my bottles, i have my stack of bottles to my left, right here, and I’m digging into the word It’s just a really good opportunity for me to grow closer to him, You know, versus if I was trying to do it at the kitchen table or, you know, on, you know, just sitting in a recline or something like that. For me, this is just my place where I really can try to connect with him. So you need to have that too. So think about that.
09:35
Okay, so now there are your three tips for the week, guys. You got your health tip. Use that. That speak acronym Okay, spe a K. Send a void. Promises made, examples to follow. It’s actually to take knowledge of God. Okay, when you read your Bible, there’s your acronym. Your wealth tip Invest in what you know and your self tip make that sacred space to really to be able to perform that Relationship with God. Okay, so there you go.
09:59
So for the book of the week this week I want kind of old school. This actually came from my investing from beginners buddies. They have a Suggested reading list. This is called beating the street. It’s by Peter Lynch with John Rochelle. This is a national bestseller. Guys Love this book. There’s a lot of really good stories in here Around Lynch and his approach. So this is one of you. Guys are just looking for a good, solid resource around investing and what to look at. You’re not gonna go wrong with this book. So I highly encourage you guys to add this to your library and you’re not going not gonna be disappointed with this, with those.
10:32
Okay, all right, now for our dad jokes. This week We actually have one. That’s our first dad joke. Was submitted by Doug Mills, who is a longtime member of our community. Doug’s always doing some fun things. He lives up in the in the Pennsylvania neck of the woods of the United States and just Just just love what he brings to, to the line. He’s always, you know, breaking some fun dad jokes to me, but just see, just a fun guy to be around guys. So thank you, doug, for this one.
10:56
So number one comes from Doug. One does a joke become a dad joke when it becomes apparent? So there you go, fellas. So if you don’t like that one, blame Doug. Just kidding, i love that one, doug. So number two how does a tree get on the internet? It logs on. Come on, fellas, you should have known that one. So number one What is a dad joke become a dad joke when it becomes apparent? Number two how does a tree get on the internet? It logs on. It totally makes sense to me, fellas. Come on now. So let us know which one you like, number one or number two.
11:26

11:55
Okay so, with the question this week, how has technology influenced the way you engage your faith? Okay, so, just think about technology, how it’s going. You’re listening to this on a device right now, most likely, or streaming on a computer. That’s still a device. But how does that influence the way that you engage your faith? And just by doing what you’re doing right now, by listening to the line within this, you’re making a positive impact. But outside of that, what ways is it engaging your faith? Now, think about this. As for your dad’s out there, how is it engaging? how is it being used to engage your kids? And that’s something that even for me myself, i need to start doing that more Now for one, they know for me, if they’re in the car with me, we’re going to be listening to podcasts. We’ll be listening to sermons and things like that But encourage them. There’s different resources out there to help them grow with their faith as well. Just be thinking about that as you move forward, guys.
12:47
But hopefully you guys enjoyed the conversations this week, the information that we shared with you. Hopefully it’s strengthening your prayer life. That’s a big area for those who need to focus on.
