Welcome to the Lion within us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I’m your host, Chris Granger. Let’s jump in. All right, guys, fun Friday time. I’m excited to be here. I’m excited to have you here. Let’s dig in.
00:16
So, before we get too far, we’re going to start off with scripture, because it’s so important each and every episode to begin with the word of God, and this week we’ve been looking at Romans, chapter eight, verse 18. It says I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that would be revealed in us. So, guys, go check out that spiritual kickoff. I spent a lot of time unpacking that verse and just to understand. Help you guys understand. You know. Sufferings are real. They are. We’re going to have pain, we’re going to have loss. If you don’t, if you haven’t had any in this life, just wait, it’s going to happen, okay, but it’s ultimately. We have glory waiting for us that’s going to be revealed because we have surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. And that right there, friends, that is worth hanging your hat on, that’s worth getting up in the morning, that’s worth getting excited, that’s worth smiling and that’s worth sharing with others. So hopefully that you had a chance to listen to that spiritual kickoff and it served you well.
01:15
Also, go listen to the conversation with with Sergeant. I had so much fun, so much fun hanging out with him. Just hearing his story, hearing his testimony, absolutely blew me away. You know, to have his son taken from him the way that he was and the choice that he’s made to be obedient to the Holy Spirit and to just love just love the man who shot his son. Guys, this is something that you can’t make up. He’s not trying to do this for any notoriety or anything like that, you know. He’s just trying to share his testimony of what God has done and now, what God is doing through this story, through the things that happened to him, it’s incredible. So hopefully, if you didn’t get a chance to listen to that, go back and listen to it, because if you’re struggling with bitterness or anger, you can’t let some things go. There’s some really solid truths that I gave us in that conversation that my prayer helps you grow. You know it may be. It still may take time. I’m not saying this is going to heal everything. I don’t want to get me wrong. It’s not a magic pill for forgiveness, but hearing other stories and seeing how other people deal with these losses like this is so important. It’s so important. So, guys, go check that conversation out.
02:33
All right, so now let’s get into our Fun Friday Tips. We’ve got our Health Tip, our Will Tip and our Self Tip and, as a quick reminder, we have a lot of new listeners too. Our Health Tips each week talk about how can we have stronger minds and bodies. Our Will Tips are all about having better stewards of our career and our finances, and our Self Tips are really designed to be better husbands and better dads. Okay, so that’s really what it’s all about. So let’s get to our Health Tip.
03:00
I want you to remember that bitterness hurts our hearts more than it does others. That’s it. Bitterness hurts our hearts more than it does others, and what we have to do is we have to extract that bitterness. And then, if you do, if you just say you know what, I am not going to be bitter, watch what your Lord does he’s going to replace it with joy. And, guys, joy it’s just, it’s something that once you have joy like with Sergeant Ike having that conversation with him, from the moment we got on, before we even hit record. There’s just a joy in his step. You can see it in his heart, in his eyes. Just you know what. He’s gone through some things. Life has dealt him some some pretty tough hands right and he’s played them. He’s played them with joy.
03:50
So if you have that bitterness and you’re holding on that bitterness, all that’s doing is robbing you of joy. It’s not doing anything to the person that you’re upset about. I don’t tell you that. So it could be your ex-wife or ex-girlfriend or that boss at work who’s doing nothing but just frustrates you every, all the time. Could be people who cut you off in traffic or people that slow you down. Whatever it is, any opportunity that you have to be bitter, you’re just harming yourself, and bitterness is like a cancer it grows and it grows and it grows. You got to get it out. You got to get it out and once you get it out, you get it out by loving others. I’m telling you you want to have a stronger mind. Get bitterness out of it. Remove that bitterness, replace it with joy and just let the Holy Spirit at that point show you what to do and then take those steps.
04:41
Now, your wealth tip this week. I want to talk to you about one thing. It’s a common thing out there but not a lot of people know. Think through the fundamentals of investing. So if you ever hear semi-tons, do you do DCA? What you’re talking about is dollar cost averaging. So basically, this is a very simple practice. You systematically invest, okay, equal amounts of money at regular intervals, regardless at the price, of what’s going on.
05:08
So it doesn’t matter what the market’s doing. You say you know what. Each month I’m going to invest, let’s say $150. And I’m going to split that across these stocks or these mutual funds or whatever these bonds, these ETFs, and what that does. If you just remain consistent and persistent in this, okay, you’re reducing your overall impact of price volatility and you’re lowering your average cost per share. It’s fundamental guys.
05:34
So for people out there who are trying to time the market and trying to get rich quick, that never works. For the one guy that does, it does work. There’s probably 99 of them that doesn’t. But if you dollar cost average, you’re super intentional about. You know what? I want to be in the market each and every month. I want to invest and I believe in these securities, whatever they are, and you have to figure out what that stuff is on your own, but if you’re just consistent in that, that’s a beautiful way to build wealth and that’s what it’s all about being a good steward of what God gives you.
06:05
Okay, now, self-tip I want you to think about this Carefully correct your kids Carefully, not carelessly, okay. So I’m going to tell you right now, guys, we have to be careful, because if you focus on that word care, care actually you know to actually uphold, to actually have some value and want to help the person, that will change everything. Because the words we say, particularly as men know we speak to a lot of men here to line with Dennis the words you say your kids make an impact. Now you hear me say all the time there’s more cost and tall and yes, actions are super important. There’s more meaning above actions. But as men, our words, man, you can tear up, you can tear down just in the swoop of a hat. You can do it, fellas. So be careful.
06:55
You don’t want to be that dad who all you’re doing is tell them how jacked up your kids are. Like can you ever do anything right? Or why do you always screw up? You don’t want to do that Carefully correct, I’m not saying you never correct, because we do want to help them grow and teach them. That’s all. The Bible is very clear about being a biblical dad and teaching our children. So don’t get me wrong there.
07:19
But be careful with how you do it. Choose your battles, choose the areas that you want them to focus on, choose the characteristics that you want to draw out of them and focus on that. Hey, I see that you’re exhibiting some really good leadership skills here. I know you’re trying to do your best job. You think about how can you do this task in a way that’s going to actually serve you. It’s going to help the family be creative, but carefully correct them Instead of just coming in hard with the hammer. Be quiet. I don’t want to hear you talk about this anymore. So you got to be careful, guys. I’m talking to myself here.
07:58
So it’s very easy for us to lower our octave and get jacked up. Don’t do that. Don’t do that. Choose or just be calm. You got to step away. Step away, get yourself, get your thoughts and then carefully correct your kids, all right. So your health tip, well-tip and self-tips Again that health tip.
08:17
You got to extract that bitterness, fellas. Get that out of your life, I’m telling you, because the bitterness is doing nothing but harming you. It’s not helping anyone, okay, so get that bitterness out. Wealth tip Okay. Dollar cost averaging If you’ve never done that before, it is a great way to get started in the market and if you are already investing, this is a great way to stay consistent and prolific in building your wealth. I’m telling you this is a great way to do it. And the self-tip I want you to carefully correct your kid, not carelessly where it could be. Kids if you have multiple, like us, we have a whole zoo here, but anyway, that’s a whole notepad.
08:54
Guest. All right now for your book of the week this week. Guys, I don’t have it with here with me, but I am reading it right now and I thought this was a really good one to kind of align with what we talked about this week. It’s called Crazy Love, overwhelmed by Relentless God. Because ultimately, god is love, right, and when he’s thinking about God, he’s got that crazy, relentless, all-powerful love. And sometimes you gotta wonder are we missing it? So it’s not crazy to think about this stuff, right, we have the God in the universe. He’s put this all stuff together, everything, and he loves us with radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love.
09:28
And I’m telling you, fellas, we have to respond. We have to respond to this and I’m not just responding like the normal people say well, I just go to church or sing this. No, no, we have to actually do something. And what we’re gonna do, what this talks about here, is actually showing you how you can actually take this love and adapt it and utilize it in your life to make his love, your love, the love that others can see. I’m telling you, if you just take that one word love and you put it into action and you start walking that out, it’s gonna change things about everything it is. It’s gonna change the way people think about you, how they come to you, how they respond to you, how they speak about you to others. It changes everything. But that word love, it’s a crazy word and when done correctly, forgiveness oh man, it’s available. I’m telling you and that’s what we talked about a lot this week, about that forgiveness of others.
10:25
Okay, so check that book out. We’ll have a link in the show notes where you guys, if you wanna check out one out my big shout out to my brother, michael Pottz, who hooked me up with that, as I was. We’re reading buddies and we’re always hooking each other up with books. So thank you, michael, for sharing that with me. But I’ve heard dad jokes this week. All right, dad joke.
10:42
Number one what’s the difference between black eyed peas and chick peas? One can sing a song, the other can only hum us. So thank you. That’s right there for my boy, lonnie Maley. Sablonnie’s a longtime member of our community. Love him to death. There’s work he’s doing. I’ll tell you what. Anytime I get to be in a meeting with Lonnie, it’s a good day. So, lonnie, thank you for submitting that joke, my brother. Number two my friend recently quit his job to pursue a career in miming. I haven’t heard from him since. So let me know which one you like best, guys. Number one what’s the difference between the black eyed peas and chick peas? One can sing a song, the other can only hum us. And number two my friend recently quit his job to pursue a career in miming. I haven’t heard from him since. So again, eye rolls count, that’s totally count. Chuckles, you know little. That works too. But let us know again. Follow us over on Facebook, instagram we’re pretty active on both of those. Linkedin we put stuff there as well YouTube and just let us know which one of those dad jokes landed best. And if you have a dad joke to submit, support at thelinewithdanus is a great way to get your dad joke in. If we use it, we’ll give you a shout out on the show. We’ll love to hear what your dad jokes are.
11:53
So the question of the week we talked about all week is how do you love your enemies? Cause it’s so easy just to say I’m all about my enemies, but actually to walk that thing out is a lot different when you start walking out versus just saying the words. So how do you do it? How do you actually put that into action? And here’s the key, guys. Here’s the key, the answers in the question love, love, caring for others and putting their knees first and actually having that heart full of love. If you have that heart full of love versus heart full of bitterness, I’m just telling you the Holy Spirit is gonna do some incredible things. So hopefully that helps you guys out.
12:30
