In this episode:
Ever pondered how a simple act of gratitude can transform your life?
Witness this intriguing transformation as we navigate the journey of thankfulness. Inspired by the profound verses of 2 Peter 3:1-2, I’ll share how I undertook the personal challenge of writing down one thing each day that I’m grateful for leading up to Thanksgiving. From my salvation, cherishing my wife, Rebecca, to my kids, I count my blessings, and I’ll share how you can do the same.
For the month of November, we put together a simple thankful challenge inside our Community. It was, every day, write down one item that you're thankful for. Click To Tweet Chris Grainger
Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders who have got to tend you to be. I’m your host, chris Granger. Let’s jump in. Alright, guys, me time. Let’s get right into our scripture of the week. Okay, so we’re in the book of 2 Peter, 2 Peter, chapter 3, verses 1 through 2. It says this is now beloved. The second letter I’m writing you in which I’m stirring up you, your sincere mind, by way of reminder that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles.
Now, why do we choose this particular scripture for this week? Because there’s lots of other Thanksgiving scriptures you guys are probably getting, you know, preached at, and here’s some of it’s on. You’re not, I’m pretty sure you’re not gonna hear anything on 2 Peter, 3, 1 through 2. But the whole premise behind pulling this scripture was to remember, to look back, to be reminded, to sit down and just remember what God has done for us, and that led us to creating a challenge for our community this month. So, within our line, within this community, guys, what we do every month we have it. We try to have a challenge for the guys to help them grow. You know, think, dig deeper. All the areas that we want to, you know, improve on health, well, self, all the stuff right to be a stronger Christian man. So for the month of Thanksgiving, we put together a thankful challenge, and the challenge was pretty simple. It was every day write down one item that you’re thankful for. And as we work through that challenge, you’re working towards Thanksgiving and when you get to Thanksgiving, you share the list with your loved ones and you actually you sit down and it’s putting some attentionality around that what you’re seeing as God has blessed you with in your life, sharing it with the people that mean the most to you. Okay, so it takes some effort. It also gives you some time, so you’re not sitting there on the spot. Oh, what am I thinking about, thankful for what I think? Before I want to say something cool. Like you have a month to do it right. So we’ve been working through this challenge together.
Now, what I did with this episode for Thanksgiving, this is our again our Thanksgiving special episode. I want to share with you all my list. Okay, and the only reason I’m sharing my list is to give you examples of things that you should, that you could consider for your list, because your list is not going to be like my list. It’s not right. There’s there’s there’s no two lists that are going to be the same. Okay, so I’m going to work through my list with you guys. I’m trying to give you some insights and give you some wisdom and discernment on what’s going on here with with how I came up with my list, and hopefully encourage you along the way to really take this into your own, to action into your own hands and make your own list. Okay, all right, so let’s get into it, fellas. So the thankful challenge and what I did here I actually did one for every day, for not every day for every year in my life. So, yeah, your boy is 42s, we’re gonna go through 42. Look, I’m not gonna spend a lot on some, on any one of these. I just want to share with you just a little something from them as we move forward.
Number one my salvation. You know the relationship with the Lord. Everything changed once I surrendered my life to him. Then, once I actually started obeying, it really changed. Right, there’s one thing to submit, there’s another thing to actually obey in that submission, and so that for me, this is my salvation, for what Christ did for me on the cross. I still can’t believe it. It just blows you away Just thinking that what he did for me don’t deserve any of it. So that had to be number one.
And number two is my wife, rebecca. We have ups, we have downs, we have sideways, we have all sorts of different things, but she’s my best friend, she’s the one that that keeps me centered, that checks me sometimes when I definitely what I needed. And you know, for you guys out there who don’t have a wife yet, I don’t want I’m not trying to rub this in at all Okay, I want to encourage you. You know, don’t be looking for the wife. You just be the man guys called you to be. You be the man that that, that woman that you’re praying for, who that that, who she’s praying for, right, you you’d be that, and if you do that, that’s the best thing you can do as a Christian man to be a leader, right, and for her. You know, god bless me to bring her my life. Unfortunately, a lot of times she gets the worst version of me and that’s something that I have to work on, but there’s nobody I would rather go through this thing called life with as my partner. She’s my best friend and you know I definitely hit the jackpot when she said yes and I don’t quite understand how God works and how he brought us together. I mean, it’s just, our whole story is crazy. But you know, hopefully she listens to some episodes of the line she doesn’t listen to as much as she used to. Hopefully she’ll listen to this one and just hear the couple words here Just, I love you. I hope you know how much I love you, rebecca. Life wouldn’t be the same without you.
And the next number three my kids. Right, my kids. You know they’re crazy, they drive me nuts, but they’re awesome. You know, they’re absolutely incredible. So proud of my 13 year old, my 11 year old, my two year old, my one year old Can’t believe I got one year old too. It’s crazy. But my older girls, man, they just they’re so independent, they’re so just driven into things that they like, whether it’s softball or basketball or or the different types of going to church, the different types of areas and things that they that excites them. It’s just cool. It’s just cool, it’s a cool season to see because they have a 13 and 11 year old, so they’re kind of into the preteen teenage type things. Then we have our littles who are two and one. So just, it’s just. It’s being a dad. You can’t put your words around it or wrap my mind around how awesome that is to experience that as many times as I’ve had it’s been.
The blessings just keep coming. You know I look at little Lily and and a little Judah and how just confident, independent they are, but also just growing up with prayerfully, with the mom and dad who loves them, you know, will be able to raise them, you know, until they leave the house. It’s just, I’m just reminded of God’s love and I pray that if you have a thankfulness that your kids are on it and I get it. Sometimes kids mess up, kids leave and you have prodigal sons and daughters, so sometimes this can be a tough time of year. Just encourage you to never stop praying for them. Never stop praying for them as a father’s love. I don’t know anything that’s stronger. All right, number four, a little bit easier stuff.
Harley-davidson’s, I mean, come on, I’ve had Harley’s since I was spent Been riding motorcycles since I was 15, 16 with my dad. Some of the best memories I have growing up are riding bikes with him and just hitting the road, hitting the mountains. Never had a big desire to go fast, but I always had a desire to be loud. So I don’t know, harleys have always had a special place in my heart. You know, I may or may not have a couple of Harley tattoos, but that’s that’s, you know, a long time ago. But anyway, harley’s man, there’s just, there’s something about it. You know, just for me that’s anytime I hear a Harley it just brings up immediate memories of riding bikes with my dad and just the fun times there. Next one we’re going to keep it with the wheels Tractors.
So now we’ve moved to the farm. So now I’m just thankful for track. It’s so cool. I mean, I remember driving tractors as a as a teenager I cut a lot of grass and drove a tractor with a bush hog, and how much I didn’t like doing it at the time. But now, man, there’s nothing like getting out there on a tractor and bush hogging a little bit, or or, or moving some dirt around or whatever you got to do, digging holes. I absolutely love it. On a farm it’s a necessity, for sure. So I just think there’s something about the this country. You know, we got to remember. You know the stuff that comes through the grocery store, as it doesn’t just, you know, magically show up there. There was a farmer on a tractor somewhere plowing a field to make that happen. So you know, hug a farmer, by the way. So there’s something about tractors.
Number number six running. I know it’s crazy, I don’t know why. I like it and I definitely don’t like, you know, doing it for hours upon hours. Although I ran that one marathon, I’m not going to do that anymore. I just enjoy hitting the trail and running. I like running in the. I haven’t learned. I would like running in the woods a whole lot more than I like running on the road. So just, anytime I can get into the woods, hit a nature trail, just do some running. You know I don’t. You know I’m built very much like a tractor and not like a formula one car, so it’s more just for endurance than it is speed. But running it’s just, it’s something for me. It’s a good way to clear my head, it’s good for you, obviously, but it’s just, it’s a fun, something I enjoy, all right.
Number seven my discipleship group. So, my discipleship group. We get together, you know, on Saturdays usually it’s about every other Saturday but those guys mean so much to me and it’s so awesome to see how we, how we all, actually care for each other. There’s so much authenticity there. There’s there’s nothing made up in the conversations, just they haven’t flow. And we talk about real life, we talk about what’s going on and where we need help and where we need encouragement and who would need to be praying for man when we got a prayer request. We only have something we can do together those boys we just jump down, we jump on it and we take care of it and we take care of each other and we’re iron and sharp as iron. We’re also going to carry the ones that are hurting. We’re going to lift up the ones that need that, that support.
Yeah, it’s just, it’s something I didn’t know the impact and importance of groups like that, you know, a couple of years ago, but now I’ll never be without one, because it’s just it’s important to surround yourself with strong Christian men. All right, number eight, right here, the lion with us. So when we started the lion, I knew this was what God was calling me to do. I know I didn’t know what it looked like, but I know he gets all the glory and I know when I’m talking with guys I have hope that what I do matters. Now I’m doing my little piece to build the kingdom, to make stronger Christian men so we can go out and do what he’s called us to do, and I just the fact that you’re even listening to this episode blows me away, thank you.
There’s so many other podcast shows that are more eloquent. Definitely, you know, have a better approach or whatever different styles. Thank you for listening. We, we. I’m blown away by the downloads. I give God all the glory. There’s nothing special here. I just give him the glory.
I want to continue to serve him. I want to continue to try to do all we can each and every week to give you good quality content that you can just enjoy. You don’t have to worry about you know anything from a hidden agenda or anything like that coming at you or anything you know from from from a worldly standpoint. We’re just going to honor, glorify God. We’re going to talk about how to be better Christian men, how to be better Christian leaders. We’re just going to lean in and have some fun, because it don’t go on. It should be fun. It should not be like Eor, should not be our spirit animal. That should not be how we are. So, look, appreciate you guys so much for this and for what we did in the lion Number nine abundant blessings farm.
So what is the abundant blessings farm? That’s what we named our property when we moved here. It’s not big, but it’s ours and we’re doing the best we can every day, do what we can to honor and glorify God with this land. And every time I hear a horse out there, or hear the chickens, or or just hanging out in the barn with my wife and my kids, or, you know, on a tractor with Judah, I just reminded him God’s goodness, of his unbelievable goodness, and I just can’t, can’t, can’t imagine, you know, life not here, now that we have moved out here. Is it an adjustment? Absolutely. A house has a house that’s half the size of what we’re used to. Yeah, it’s a big adjustment, but you know what? It ain’t the size of the house that matter. It really doesn’t matter. It’s the love that’s in the home. We got love in this home, right, and it’s tight quarters, it’s okay, and we’re just just. We’re just honored. We’re trying to honor and glorify God and everything we do at abundant blessing farms. So, by the way, if you want to check out abundant blessings farm, check it out on Instagram and on Facebook by my wife’s. It’s our business. We’re doing that together. If you want to give us a like or a follow there, or if you know people who need to play a good place, a safe place to keep their horses, hey, hit us up. We love to talk.
Anyway, number 10, my health. I just don’t. I put that on my list because I don’t want to take that for granted. You know, I recently did a marathon. I try to stay healthy. I don’t always eat the best way that I should, but I really try. And my health is something I’ve had a long health journey and when my oldest she’s 13 Chloe, when she was born I was 330 pounds. I had a long way to go. I’m soft. I usually hover around 200. I’m 6’1″, so there’s a few pounds I need to take off. But you know what? Overall, god has blessed me with health, and that could change tomorrow Because some people well, don’t jinx yourself, I don’t worry about that. God is his will anyway. But he’s blessed me with health and I pray that he’s blessed you with it and maybe you’re not in the pristine health that you hope. Just remember there always is an opportunity to get better and we talk about this a lot within the lion the importance of our health, why we need it, to make sure we prioritize that, why we need to be intentional in that area and don’t just take any of this stuff for granted. Fellas, all right now.
Next one my mom and my dad. My mom and my dad they’re my dad’s, my hero. My mom she’s a trip. I was definitely a mama’s boy growing up, still am to a degree and it’s just having them in my life. I don’t take it for granted that, the fact that I could pick up my phone and hit mom or pick up my phone and hit daddy in the contacts and I know my dad’s gonna answer. Mom’s usually hit or miss, but anyway they just. I see how they love each other and the marriage, how they’ve always been faithful to each other. They’ve always just been supportive of each other and it’s an encouragement to me After being married 40, something, almost 50 years now. I mean it’s unreal when I see their relationship and it gives me hope for me and my wife and just to be able to go to both of them, one, either one. I have questions or I’m hurting and I don’t know. That unconditional love is there. I don’t have words for it. It’s pretty incredible.
Now, next one my brother and he probably wanted to make my list a couple of years ago, but no, I’m just kidding man. My brother and I we’ve had an interesting history. We went different paths and I’m not gonna get into this podcast what his path was, but it just wasn’t my path. But God brought us back together and I remember praying the prayer of salvation with my brother when he accepted Christ and I was driving on the road when he did, when he made that confession and he confessed Christ is Lord. He’s gone through a lot of things. He recently got a big promotion at work and I’m just so proud of him. I’m so proud of the man he’s turned into me and how he’s recognized importance that he has of each and every day. So just want you to know, man, I’m proud of you, I’m very proud of you, I’m proud to be called your brother.
And look by, just keep head up, get after it. Okay, all right, the number next one 13 guns. Yep, this is probably gonna turn off a lot of people, but I like guns. I like them here. I have a bunch of them right over in the corner. I used to have one on me, so I like that.
I’m definitely pro-gun. I like going out on the property shooting a little bit. Anytime I can have a shoot some stuff with Chloe, that’s usually a good day and it’s just fine. I grew up with guns. I definitely respect them. I understand the implications of guns and what the damage they can do. But I also recognize that in the hands of right people who are qualified, who are trained, they’re safe, right. Because then I just feel like, as guns, that can be such a touchy, touchy, touchy subject. But for me I like them and there’s something that I definitely enjoy just getting out there in nature and spending time. And anytime you go to the range is a good day. And, by the way, shout out to my boy, stephen Know you, miss Joey, I love going to the range, so hopefully you’re listening to this episode.
But next one God’s word, I don’t know what I could do every day 14, if I can get up and can spend some time. In God’s word, don’t take that for granted. There’s places in this, not in this country but there’s places in this world where you cannot do that. You cannot just sit down and freely open your Bible and read God’s word. Don’t take that for granted. In fact we get to do that. Absolutely love it.
Number 15, camping. I love getting outside. So anytime I can be outside camping that’s usually a fun day. Lots of fun memories, thinking back over the years of camping when I was a kid, camping with my children now my girls. They loved to camp in the backyard all the time. Now, even at the farm, they’ll pop a tent up and stand out there for a few nights. So it’s something we just like enjoy doing. It’s just getting outside, being connected with nature. To me that’s just a good day.
Number 16, pond fishing. I do like fishing at the ocean and lakes. They are fun too. I like pond fishing. We have a pond here and on the farm at abundant blessings. There’s just something about chilling out by a pond, catching some good crappie. It’s just a good day. So pond fishing is usually fun. Number 17, grilling out. Anytime you can eat and cook outside, do it. I’m telling you, the food tastes better. Everybody’s in a better mood. So anytime I get a chance to grill outside I’m gonna do it.
Number 18, teaching Sunday school and kids. I love it. I love it going to church and being able to spend some time teaching and going into God’s word. Recently I’ve been stepping in and teaching some of our kids. I think that’s fun. But anytime you can just open up God’s word and just reflect upon it and try to bring others along the journey and let them see when we have those aha and those light bulb moments. Oh, it’s just to me, it’s just fun. Plus, when you teach God’s word you have to spend a lot of time preparing. So usually in that preparation you’re gonna get sharper. He’s gonna reveal things to you. So I see a ton of value in that.
Number 19, praying with others. I really enjoy praying with other people. I’ve actually told somebody the other day I do better praying for people and with them. Now I do praying for myself and this is an area I have to work on, but just praying with others, I think it’s just a great skill. It’s something that, as Christian men, we need to be doing more of. So I just encourage you.
If somebody brings you a prayer request, here’s your challenge, fellas. Don’t just say I’ll be praying for you. Actually say let’s pray together right now. Let’s pray together right now. And I saw this first time my buddy Al Roberts and he came up to our church and he’d spoken last year sometime and he was just like people. I literally saw several people said well, I have a prayer request, will you pray for this? And I would just say let’s pray right now. And we were talking in the truck later and he’s like I do that because one I’m busy, I probably will forget, but I want that person to know in the moment that I care. We’re just gonna lift it up to him. He said so. I feel like there’s such a great opportunity just to ask people. If they come up in there as a prayer request and you know it’s a genuine request ask if you can pray for them right in the moment. There’s power behind that.
All right, number 20, my buddy Adam. My buddy Adam. He’s my best friend. He checks me, he challenges me, he challenges my thinking. He definitely makes me sharper. He’s Johnny on the spot. He’s one of the smartest guys I’ve ever met in my life. One of the most driven guys I’ve ever met in my life. He has a wonderful family, a family man, loves God, loves his Bible. I can’t say enough about him. He makes me better just by being around him and I just know one thing I love him and I care about him, and it’s genuine, it’s real, it’s sincere and I hope you guys listening out there have at least one, if not a couple, people like that in your life.
Anytime one of our vehicles messes up, I know he’s gonna lend me a vehicle. I know he’s gonna be there to lend me a whatever, and it’s the same goes for him with me. We’re there for each other. There’s nothing fake about it and we can have hard conversations. He can come hard at me and most of the times I deserve it and I can do the same with him and we’ll check each other. But there’s an actual care. I remember one night he somehow he butted down on me. He was in the middle of the night and I answered him and he’s like what are you answering for? Like I mistakenly called you. I said, because you called, and when you call, bro, good, lord willing, I’m going to answer, and I just I think we don’t want to take relationships like that for granted.
So now, number 21, alain with us community. Well, chris, obviously this is on your list. Well, it really wasn’t a minute last year till I realized the importance that it hasn’t my life. These guys within the line, within us community I’m not going to start naming them because I’ll be here all day and I don’t want to miss anybody. I’m here to tell you these guys are incredible. They care for each other, they show up. There’s their genuine, their sincere, their transparent, their authentic, their compassionate. Their all the things we talk about. They’re all over the country. That’s the crazy part From Florida, louisiana, arizona, canada. It’s crazy this community. It’s made me a better man over the last year Since starting this up, and I just I’m so thankful for it.
All right, the number next one 22 dad jokes. You guys know I like dad jokes. I mean I do two every two a week. I just enjoy it. I think there’s what we’re way too serious as a society for one. We need more humor. Good, clean dad jokes. There’s nothing like it.
Ok, number 23 trucks. I don’t know why they even made cars, but trucks all the way. Right, I mean, come on, so I’ve had trucks my whole life. Right now, this season of life, it’s the only time I’ve never not had a truck and it’s driving me crazy. So me and prayer. There are guys, hopefully will figure that that truck piece out. But man, there’s nothing like tailgates. Man, I’m telling you they’ll gauge Joe Diffie hit it right there. It’s just something about it. So anyway, trucks are awesome.
24 guitars I have guitars. I’m not a very good player of guitars but I’ve always wanted to be. That’s a bucket list item is to learn how to play a guitar. Be a better player. And that dovetails right into number 25, leonard Skinner. I’m sorry, you boys just said it. So yes, I’ve let the kid out the back.
That is my number one favorite band of all time. I’ve seen Leonard Skinner play probably 20 times. I mean anytime they’ve ever come around. We grew, I grew up going to Leonard Skinner concerts with my dad, with my mom, with my brother. They’re just who I always remember. I have so fond memories of Leonard Skinner and listening to, you know, freebird and Alabama and Call Me the Breeze. And my oldest last night told me driving to church in Curtis Lowes her favorite song. And just I can. Those songs, you know, their music does something for each and everyone of us. They’re something for worship music. I totally get there, certain worship songs that just hit me just right, but anytime the Skinner song comes on it just brings back such fond memories of childhood, of growing up, of teenage years, things like that. And it’s just, you know those bands that mean something to us all, we all have them. When you’re I’m sure you’re thinking of a band right now the Skinner’s your band hey, we’re, we’re. We’re cut from the same cloth, but I mean, it’s just, it’s been, it’s an interesting journey. I remember I did a paper in high school on the history of Leonard Skinner and I can almost remember that paper verbatim. But it’s, it’s just funny how you connect music with memories and I’m just thankful for that and I’m thankful for that band.
Twenty six to fall weather. I mean, can I get a good gracious? I live in the, in the, in the, in the south. The fall weather Absolutely beautiful. Which takes me right to twenty seven, to St North Carolina. It doesn’t get any better something, by the grace of God. Actually, love it right here in the state of North Carolina. You have the mountains, you have the ocean, you have rivers, you have lakes, all the different things you can do. You have definitely things you can do with the family and cities and things like that, but it’s just just a beautiful state. If you ever get a chance to come through the hills, north Carolina, or just come to the state at all, come out. I mean really come out. You’re not. You’re not going to be disappointed in a trip to North Carolina.
Ok, now, number twenty eight the ocean. There’s something about standing by the ocean and realizing how small we are, how big God is, and I just love it. I love going to the ocean, love going to the beach. Anytime I get to go chill out there or actually go fishing at the ocean, I just think that’s a, that’s a good day. Which the next one. Number twenty nine is mountain views, and that’s the beauty of the Carolinas. Man, you could be in the mountains in the morning, in the ocean, and even if you wanted to, just those mountain views, just seeing how God’s handiwork you want to see God show off. Just go out to the Great Smoky Mountain and just just chill out there. Go out and drive back to Cades Cove, see what’s going on out there and just and just soak in how awesome God is. It’s just, it’s incredible.
Number number thirty dogs Absolutely love them. You know, I have a giant snowshoer here with my wife as a Yorkie. I don’t claim him because I’m saying what me and I do. Sometimes we just don’t see out of eye, although he has gotten better since we moved out here. But I love dogs. I think they’re awesome. I am allergic to them, unfortunately, but I still love them to death. That’s how we have to have hypoallergenic dogs here at the house, but love, love dogs. You know, I have another, had another podcast, and I always ask some dogs for cats. Now, always the answer was always dogs and I told them that I’d always say there’s only one right answer. Right, and there has to be dogs. But although I will say I do like you know, my cat will get him here in a second Number.
Thirty one horses since moving to the farm, I have actually fell in love with horses. I did not think I would as fast as I did, but I love being around those majestic animals. It’s just something about the power of a horse and how controlled that power is At times. Sometimes they can just be dog on bat crazy, but they’re fun, they’re awesome. I actually love them. At number thirty two can’t believe I’m putting this on a list, but rowdy, my cat, that’s right, my cat, not your cat. I don’t like your cat, but I love my cat. Rowdy is awesome he is.
I’ve had that little dude since he was, saved him as a little bit of kitten. He was on the back of a tractor trailer. I was coming out of out of a power plant in Virginia and I saw him on this little bitty furry thing on the back of a tractor trailer and the worker was moving him in. The worker was from, was Spanish, he spoke Spanish. I said what is that? He says I’ll go to. I said, well, can you go to? So he took rowdy. I mean, he was smaller than a pep, you can, took him, went to sheets, bought some cat food Apparently you can buy cat food and sheets, because I remember that’s where I went to get to get some food and I found some cat food there. Then I’m in the truck and we’ve been together ever since. So he’s, he’s my buddy, thirteen years old but just just rowdy, not sure Cat, just to be clear on that.
Ok, now number thirty three NASCAR, yep. So I’m pulling that old, that car out. So for some of you that may not know, I actually used to be a crew chief on a late model car. We would race all the time at South Boston’s B way here in Virginia had a buddy, timothy Peters, who went into the truck series. He made I think he drove a couple of of Xfinity races, but it was very successful in a truck series.
Love, nascar, love, going to the races with my dad, with my brother, with friends. Then it got to meet all the drivers and when you’re in that NASCAR life it’s a hard life, though it was before kids for sure. It’s been pretty much every night at the working on a race shop and they’re on the working on the race car. And then you spend all weekend, all weekend, at the racetrack and then just getting a chance to go. But what do you see? When you see it on TV it doesn’t do anything, it does no justice. When you’re in person you can actually see the speed that those guys are running and the closeness. And then you start getting into the engineering and the math behind it. When, so far as working on the race car, I have a lot of fine memories of it. You know I haven’t been to a race in a long time, but at the time at the South Boston Speedway, working on the race car for the Bayleys race team was pretty awesome, so I had to put an ask on my list of thankful.
And the next one chickens. I know it’s crazy, I eat chickens all the time. Basically, I eat chicken every day of the week. We raise chickens. Now I didn’t know how cool they were. Like it’s just really cool to go out and see you know all the different things that chickens do. And there’s something about farm fresh eggs. If you’ve never had farm fresh eggs, you are missing out. Like there’s no comparison. And I had to put on my list because they’re just awesome, right. They’re just absolutely awesome, right.
And the next one here is faith. You know a little girl, faith. She’s incredible. She was. You know we lost her and but I am thankful for her. I’m thankful for what she taught me about love, what she taught me about being a father. I’m not going to get into the story. Go back and check out the episode where I talked about faith in depth, and faith was, she was a gift. You know I miss her for sure. You know we have lots of things we keep around that just she’ll never be forgotten. But I know when she closed her eyes, as soon as she opened them, she saw Jesus and I’m just thankful that. You know, we had that little bit of time with her. We had that one night for sure. Now I just think that time with faith was I might have to move on. It was good, all right.
Number next with 37 overalls. Man, I’m gonna tell you what, since moving to the farm, boss some overalls and tell you what, bo, there’s something about putting them on and working on the farm and you just feel good, right, so you got to put those on the list. Number 38 fruit. I’m a big fruit guy. I love apples, bananas, anytime. Anytime I can snack on some fruit is a good day, and I just think there’s something good about you know, just eating natural and what the things that God built Right Now.
Number 39 kids laughing. I absolutely love hearing my youngins laugh, even though the old one to the young ones, it doesn’t matter. I just like hearing kids laughter. I think it’s something special about that. I think there’s something that it’s just, it’s good for your soul to hear kids laughing. So I just I think that’s fun. And then that takes me in there. 40. My wife’s not gonna like this one, but potty humor, I’m sorry. Anytime we can have potty humor at our house, we’re going to do it because I just think it’s fun. I think it breaks up to sometimes a tough situation. You just drop in a little potty humor. Next to you Everybody’s laughing. My wife can’t stand it, my girls love it, so Judah even loves it. Now I think it’s here to stay All right.
Now, number 41, pastor Joe B Martin. You know I’ve had the honor to meet him twice, to have him on the show twice. Still thankful to my brothers, daniel and Luke, for introducing me to Joe B a couple years ago when they told me about his ministry. But I don’t know anybody who’s had a greater impact on me as a Christian man as I’ve grown and my knowledge and my faith in Pastor Joe B. It’s incredible to just to hear him preach, to hear how he teaches God’s word. So I just I can’t thank him enough. You know I sent him. I have a reminder on my calendar.
Every Thursday, 9 am, I send Pastor Joe B an encouragement email. And it’s just an encouragement because I’m sure as passions like that, you get a lot of pushback, you get a lot of friction. A lot of times all you hear is a negative chirp, chirp, chirp. I want him to have a little bit of encouragement every week, I’m sure he gets a lot of other encouragement too. I try to be just a fount conduit of encouragement for him, because what he does for me and just by sharing God’s word and what God is revealing to him, I can’t say enough about him. You’ve never listened to Pastor Joe B. You’ll listen to a couple episodes. You’re in a line with Dennis. You’ll re-interview him and then go check out the church in 1122. It’s absolutely unbelievable.
And the last one here, fellas, the military, the military veterans this is so special and important to me. I did not serve directly, but I have such respect. I went to Old Dominion University. It’s right there in Norfolk, close to the largest Navy base in the world. But anytime I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with people who have a military background, I’m blown away about their professionalism, about their drive, and it just reminds me why this country is so great. It’s military, perfect though there’s nothing perfect, though just out of heaven, fellas, I’m telling you there’s nothing perfect the men and women that served this country, the men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice, I don’t know how you think of other than just being intentional, about loving on. You know we talk about.
You know the importance of loving on our veterans and just when you read the stats on how many of them are suffering, I just pray that you remember veterans this Thanksgiving. Remember the ones that are serving there. They can’t be at the kitchen, the dinner table. They have Thanksgiving with their family this year because they’re protecting us or they’re protecting others. I’m just thankful for that. So that kind of wraps up my thankfulness and that thankful challenge and prayerfully good little willing.
You know this list will continue to grow in the years and I would encourage you to think about what are you most thankful for and make your list, write it down, refer back to it and then take it to the next level and actually share it with someone. Share it with the ones that you love the most. Let them hear it. You know I didn’t have all this stuff written down. I went through with you guys. I had the list, but then I shared with you things of why that’s on my list. Do that Take a little extra time. Be intentional, Be purposeful, right and steps like this. You never know the impact it can have on your loved ones. Just to hear them, just so that they can hear you say this stuff.
As dads, as men, sometimes we’re done with talking. Right, we’ll get around our family. We’re done. We don’t want to. We’ve used up all our words. I encourage you to save a few of those words and, when you sit down at the table, use them to share your list, your gratitude, your thankful list, with them. You’ll never regret it, fellas. I promise you you’ll never forget. Regret it. Okay, all right, guys, that’s all for today.
