Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I’m your host, chris Granger. Let’s jump in. All right, guys, it is Sean Friday time. I’m excited to have you here. This is going to be our special Black Friday episode as well, okay, well, before we get into any of that, let’s get right into our scripture. So we’re in the book of 2 Peter, is we? Chapter 3, verses 1 and 2. So this is now beloved.
The second letter I’m writing to you in which I’m stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder that you should remember the word spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by the apostles. Now, why in the world we use that for Thanksgiving, for Thanksgiving week? Go back to the SKO and listen to it, okay, but seriously, it’s really about taking the time to reflect and think back and be thankful. And to be a leader, you have to be purposeful and intent and act with intent around looking back. You’re never going to move forward and have success in the future if you don’t take the time to look back. And this week, with Thanksgiving, a great time to just slow down, pump the brakes and reflect, and that’s why we pull that scripture. That’s why the gratitude list, what I went through for our latest meat episode, that’s why that was so important. I took time to sit down and think through the things that are on this list. Now, there were some silly things on the list, like tractors and horses and things like that. There were some very deep, intentional things like my wife, my salvation, my daughter, faith May, who we lost. There were some things that really hit home. So I hope that you took the time to actually make your own thankful list. Lean into the challenge, if you will, and then share it with others. And if you haven’t done it yet, there’s still time because we know how many leftovers there are from Thanksgiving. Do it with them. Act with intent. Okay.
Now let’s get into our fun Friday tips. Okay, this is a special week this week with our Thanksgiving episodes. I want to think through some tips that you can actually apply right now. Okay, so I’m going to give you a health tip, a well tip and a self tip. Again, remember, the health tip is reminding your body, your well tips, career and finances. And your self tips being better husbands than that. Okay. So your health tip.
So now you had a ball of cheat day yesterday. I get it. Okay, boom, that was awesome. I’m sure the food was great. Leftovers are phenomenal. Turkey is always better than second day.
But don’t turn it into a cheat month. Okay, get active. Okay, break a sweat. Go for a walk, start easy. Or maybe you want to go for a run, or throw a rucksack on? Go for a ruck, or lift some heavy weights. Okay, don’t be the type of guy that says you know what that’s going to be my new year’s resolution. Don’t do that. Okay, get after it. Enjoy the meals that you have this time of year, but then get after it, go back to work. That’s what we have to do. We have to take care of these bodies, okay. So, look, enjoy your cheat day. I’m sure you had a great one yesterday. Now, don’t make it a cheat month. Got it All right? That’s it.
Where you can, this time of year, redeem your rewards, okay, and that can fund your holiday shopping. So we use this with our family. You know, my wife and I we try to anytime we collect rewards for different companies or places that we spend money with throughout the year. We storm and then we try to capitalize and utilize that this time of year to help fund the Christmas holiday, okay, and we can actually cover majority of our costs. Now, our Christmas holiday is not extravagant or anything like that, like some people do. You know, we’re not buying cars or things like that, but we are able to fund a lot of it. You know what we got creative with it? We had to look around. We had to find where can we spend money to, where we collect up over the years and then we turn those rewards into savings, right, and that turns into a holiday budget and it’s just really cool how that works. It takes a little bit of stress off this time of year. It definitely doesn’t make it stress free, but it definitely helps, okay. So just where you can redeem those rewards.
Now your self-sip, speaking directly to the guys here, what you lean in on this one Are you ready? Do some more housework this weekend? Uh-oh, seriously, chris, I’m telling you, most of our wives think about it. They are super stressed out this time of year. They just some of them just finished going through Thanksgiving dinner or whatever, getting all that ready, and then they shift straight when the turkey’s still cooling down and they’re thinking about Christmas. They go straight into Christmas mode. That’s awesome, but it’s stressful, right, and you never know how.
Just taking some intentional action around cleaning a sink full of dishes okay. Or maybe you just need to go down and figure out how to work that washing machine in that dryer and do some laundry, or plug in that dreaded thing called a vacuum cleaner and running across the road I’m telling you, guys, you don’t have to make super complicated about this, but just show some intentional acts of love here to help out. It takes a family. Make all this stuff work, but you want it to serve your wife, you want to honor her, you want to love her. Be a little more intentional. Maybe this weekend, let her go shopping and lots of ladies like to do that on this time of year. Let them go and watch she’s going. Don’t just chill out and watch football. Get to work when she comes home to a clean house, just do it out of love. Don’t be doing it because you’re looking to try to get paid later Now. If that happens, then have. But look, do it because you love her, because you want to honor her, because you want to serve her. And, guys, I’m telling you this is a great and easy way. Just show that love, right? You never know. Pick up that dirty dish and go wash it. Okay, all right, 33 test fellas. Use that. You had a ball of cheat day. Don’t turn that thing into a cheat month. That’s your health tip, your wealth tip. Redeem those rewards where you can and help that fund your holiday shopping and your self-tip do some housework this weekend. Get after it. Now. You probably going to ignore me, that’s okay, but I’m telling you, do it. Okay, get after it.
Now for the book of the week. I want to pull this one up. This is on my list to read. I’ve actually bought this book a long time ago, but I haven’t read it yet. But I cannot wait to read it. It’s called Everybody Fights, so why not get better at it?
Okay, it’s about Kim and pinholding us. They’re pretty big in our area. Well, they’re big everywhere. You know YouTube stars and things like that. But I bought this because you know, beck and I sometimes we don’t see on everything, and that’s okay. God had put two people together, two centers under one roof. There’s gonna be problems. There’s gonna be times where you and your spouse don’t see eye to eye, if you’re telling me right now, chris, me and my spouse have never had argument. I’m here to tell you You’re blind. That’s impossible. You’re going to have areas of your marriage where you’re not in 100 percent alignment. That’s okay. What I want to do is learn how to get better when those instances happen, of not making that a hurdle but making an opportunity to grow as a couple. That’s a pretty cool book, full disclosure. I haven’t read it yet, but I do have it right here. It’s just all my list of stuff to read.
All right Now, couple of turkey day dad jokes for you guys. Dad joke. Number one what do you call rain on turkey day Foul weather? Get it, there you go. That’s number one. Number two why was the turkey asked to join a band? He could bring his own drumsticks. Of course, that’s a natural fellas. You should have got that one. Come on now, let me know which one you like best. Number one what do you call rain on turkey day Foul weather? Number two why was the turkey asked to join a band? He could bring his own drumsticks. Let me know which one lands best. Remember, eye rolls count. It’s okay. We’re not looking for 100% approval here, we just want to get a little chuckle. I just think anytime you throw a dad joke in there it’s a good day. Make sure it’s a sin. If you have dad jokes, support at the lion with the endus, or join, hop in our community. We’ll love to use your dad jokes. If we use them on the show, we’ll give you a shout out.
The question of week this week what are you most thankful for? I really want you to thank us for that. Our thankful challenge was all about that, about being intentional around that. So maybe you’ve had time to think about that. I really hope you have. I hope you’ve had some time this week to sit and reflect. If you’ve done that reflection now be purposeful with it. Share Don’t just keep it baller up inside. Share it with others, let them know. Let them know that, hey, I’ve been thanking this week. I want you to know how special you are to me and here’s why. And boom, a little comment or conversation like that can mean the world to someone.
