Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I’m your host, chris Granger. Let’s jump in. All right, fellas, it’s fun Friday time. I hope you’re excited to be here. I’m excited to be here Friday. You made it to the end of the week, hallelujah. Let’s have a little bit of fun together, okay?
So now we’re going to be looking at our scripture this week, and we have two really important verses, guys, and that was Romans 8, 38, and 39. It’s the very end of Romans 8, quite arguably one of the best books in the entire Bible. I absolutely love Romans 8. And it says this, for I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creative thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus, our Lord. I just that verses, guys. Woohoo, that right there. That didn’t get you fired up. I don’t know what. Does you need to check your polls? I mean, I’m telling you, fellas, this is what God has, this is what he’s offering us, right, and there’s nothing that can separate that love he has for us. So go back and listen to that spiritual kickoff. You need a little boost. I don’t know what’s up. It’s Friday, maybe you don’t need a boost, but if you do go back and listen to the SKO, I really try to give you some encouragement to see how you can take these two scriptures and not just know them, apply them, apply them. It’s all about simplifying and applying those verses to our life so we can be the leaders God intends us to be. Guys, you can take it right now. To date, you are destined to be a leader. You are here for a reason. You are. God has put you in charge of something or whatever it is. Guys, you need to own it, and I’m just praying that you take lessons from God’s word like this and use it. Okay, so now you missed our episode on Wednesday. Go back and check it out why.
I hang out with my buddy, brian Rucker. Guys may recognize him from the show Duck Down. I said he was on several episodes. Brian is a great guy. I got to meet him in Louisiana when I went down there and just love his story, love his testimony. What an impactful journey he’s had. And man, you talk about God having his hand on something, when that dude good gracious, I mean just to hear from the gang activities, the shootings, the violence, the drugs, the sex, the alcohol. Guys, it’s all there and at the whole time you have grace and you have Christian men that were stepping up, that were ready when Brian was on the verge of quitting. They never gave up.
Guys, I hope you got a chance to go listen to the episode of Brian where he said something towards the hand that I wrote it down. And bursty is inevitable, but misery is optional. The guys that you hear me talk about you either in a trial, coming out of one and getting ready to go into one, I’m telling you that adversity we have in life, it’s going to happen. I also think that adversity we have in life makes us better. So I just really enjoyed what Brian said on so many things. His story was so impactful from losing his mother, never having a dad, the way that he moved to Louisiana you know the impact that obviously being an employee at Duck Commander had on his life but, most importantly, the decision he made to follow Christ and how that changed everything about everything. And that can’t be you. And so I’m praying, guys, that just when you hear conversations like this, when you hear stories and testimonies like that, don’t just say, well, that’s good for him, no, you have a testimony, your testimony matters In your testimony. No one can refute, and your testimony could be what someone needs to hear turn their life around from that life of sin towards the saving grace that comes with Jesus Christ. All right, fellas, so just go check that out for sure, love, to get your feedback on it.
Now let’s get into our Fun Friday tips. Okay, so for our new listeners, we do a health tip, a wealth tip and a self tip. Okay, so the health is talking about having stronger minds and bodies. Okay, this week’s gonna be a body one. And we have a wealth tip. That’s taking that’s. That’s being better stewards or refinances in our careers. Okay, because God is blessing us. He talks a lot about wealth and finances in the Bible. We need to be serious about it. And the self tip is being better husbands and dads. Okay, so let’s get into our first tip. So the health tip We’ll give you a challenge. Okay, you guys, just got out of Thanksgiving and getting ready to go into Christmas time of year. This is a awesome challenge.
It’s called the Chad 1000X. Okay, now here’s what it is. It’s 1000 box steps, 1000. Yep, don’t drop to zero. And it’s done as a team. Now, my brother that lived, my good friend who lives right across the road from me now I think we’re actually neighbors now His name is Grayson. He introduced this, this workout, to me. So me and him, he and I, some other buddies, we did this one on October 29th. How I remember that is because this particular workout is dedicated to Chad Wilkerson, who was a veteran. He took his life in 2018. He actually took his life on October 29th 2018. And I’m here to tell you guys, a lot of people do this from Veterans Day, but this is a powerful workout.
Now you have three options when you do this workout. You have a beginner, so you can do this with no rucksack. Okay, you just pick the height of the box that you want to step up on and you make your step ups. That could be a, you know, six inch box, or 12 inch box, or 16 inch box, up to a 20. I mean, if you feel on here, row it, go 24. Then you have the standard workout, and the standard is you have a 30 or a 20 pound rucksack, and then you still get to pick the height. Okay, so the height’s very. Then you have the expert. Okay, the expert is a 45 pound ruck. Okay, 45 pounds and a 20 inch box. Now you’re going to need to break this up. You’re not going to be able to do a thousand reps in a row. Most likely, if you can, more power to you. So I did the expert round.
Okay, I’ve witnessed this. Yes, it wasn’t pretty, but we got through it. It took us about an hour or 45 minutes to do it. The way we broke it up was 100, 100 rep rounds. So we obviously had 10 rounds and then we would do 10 reps per leg when that was your lead leg would be your like. So we would 10 reps for our left. Then we switched 10 reps for our right, where the right leg was the first leg up. So, basically, you step up, tap your toe, step back down. You have to manage your pace. Okay, you’re thinking you can just blast through this. But a 20 inch box Okay, that’s the standard box with a 45 pound rub, make sure you have a good ruck on your back. You want to have that thing secure because there’s a lot of friction. I was here to tell you guys, that’s something right there.
That workout I did one week prior to the marathon. I ran and it was very interesting how guys timing worked. So it was, you know, the day after I did the chat 1000X, I actually went for a run. I felt pretty good. But I’m going to tell you what because it was on a Sunday that we did the workout. Tuesday and Wednesday I could not run. I was worried about I couldn’t run a marathon because I mean it was killer on workout for your calves. But it was something I was able to push through. Obviously, I felt better eventually. Yes, I did finish the marathon. It wasn’t a great pace but I did finish the marathon, got that done. So check that box, my this workout, fellas.
I’m here to tell you it’s not for the faint of heart, but if you’re looking for a workout with purpose, with intent, if you’re looking for a workout that you can do with fellow brothers in Christ, that actually you know, you don’t have to have a ton of equipment to do this right, it’s not like you have to have a CrossFit gym or anything. You just need a box, see a box and something that you can can wear for some weight or you can just use for first. I’ve seen people do this workout when I was looking around. People do it. They just try to find like a big, big step or something like that. You can do this one, okay, so just break that down. You want to challenge before Christmas this year? Hey, there’s your challenge Get the chat 1000X done before Christmas. Okay, hey, I’m on the way. Remember the reason behind the workout. Go check it out. I mean you can Google it online. Check out the chat 1000X.
His wife is really behind this workout and trying to get the message out around our veterans, the importance of honoring them. So many veterans out there deal with PTSD and it’s a tremendous struggle. This is one way you can take intentionality around honoring veterans of all the way. Okay, now your well tip. Here’s something that you don’t want to forget about, guys. When you’re putting your budget together and you’re thinking about your money and your finances and your steward ship, don’t forget about automatic payments, particularly around things like insurance. Okay, because this is something that for me, this is a blind spot. I’m just 100% honest. Right, you know, and I just I don’t want you guys to get tripped up either. It was auto payments. They’re great, you know they really are great, but they need to be accounted for it and it need to be put into your budget. And for me, what actually was an oversight for me was car insurance. You know I had the life insurance budgeting in. I just have had neglected to actually put in the car insurance as a line on our budget. So just want to make sure you guys are aware of that Need to audit your most recent budget, go back and see if things are changed. You know what adjusts up, what adjusts down. You know also, just as a side secondary note for this, you know, for you guys who have, like you know, your internet, your streaming service, it’s the same like that when they have increases. Sometimes we get those emails and we may not adjust it into our budget. Adjust the numbers Okay, make sure you have accurate numbers in your budget, because that’s a really important area that you want to be a good steward. You have to know your math. Okay, now your self tip. We’re right after Thanksgiving.
Some of you guys may be done decorating for Christmas or some of you haven’t. But here’s your challenge Let your kids help you with that decorating for Christmas. I know it can be stressful. It’s called open up a can of worms. Already, it’s a high stress level. You most likely, you know, won’t be doing it anyway, right? But you can have some fun mirrors with this.
I have a lot of great memories of my dad, my mom, them letting us help decorate the tree. Go get the tree, all the things around the house. It was always a fun time of year because we were included. I’ve also been able to do that with my daughters, and now with Judah to be his first Christmas. So you have to let them participate, right? You don’t want to just go do all the decorating by yourself, and I know that may be easier. It’s not really the area of growth that you need from a leadership standpoint for your home, okay. So challenge yourself. Challenge yourself to let them to do it with you.
Now, if you’re done decorating, you’re not out of the woods yet, okay. So if you’re done decorating, I want you to challenge yourself in another way. Create a gingerbread house with the group. You got this. You can do it Now. The stress level is going to be high because I promise you the roof is going to fall off. It’s going to be one of those deals You’re like why in the world did I listen to that guy on that podcast and want to do this. But look, here’s the deal. If the thing falls down, just go get a plastic dinosaur, like a little toy dinosaur, sitting on there, and it could be Jurassic Park. So there you go. There’s always ways to be creative and solve the issue. Now, if that works for you, then you’ve got to send me an email of the picture of your gingerbread house with the dinosaur on top. So again, chris, at the line with the endus. I want to hear it from you. Okay, so there’s our three tips. I want you to do that challenge, that health challenge. I want you to do that. Chad 1000X the wealth challenge. Don’t forget those automatic payments and adjust them as necessary. Okay, then the self tip Let those kids help you decorate for Christmas.
Okay, now the book of the week. I don’t have the book of the week with me here physically. It’s in the barn somewhere. I’ll be straight up with you guys. I could not find it. So I know I own this book because I’ve read this book, but it’s Jesus politics. I’ve talked about that. You know anything that, when it comes, I feel like I want to pull something back out from the Robbersons, since we had Brian on this week. I feel love, absolutely love, feel this story. This book is tremendous. I do have it, I have read it, I promise, but it’s a great one. So go check that out, guys. Jesus politics there. I will have a link in the show notes for you for that.
Okay, now for your dad jokes. This week got two goings for you, looking forward to your feedback, remember, I rolls count and let me know which one works best for you, okay. So, dad joke number one what kind of be can’t make up its mind. I may be. So there you go. There you go, guys. That’s number one. Number two my last job. I was paid in vegetables. Do you do you believe him for you? Do you believe for others, maybe, who is? Who? Is it out there in your life that you need to extend a little bit of grace and extend that second chance to? Okay? Brian story was impactful. He talked about a lot of things that happens in his life and if it weren’t for a few people who were willing to give him that second chance, you wouldn’t have made it. He definitely, definitely want to make this Louisiana. He may have still been in prison or he may be even worse. He may have been dead and never would have had a chance to meet Christ. So, if you believe in second chances, take some action. Remember nothing that separates you from the love of Christ, nothing. Okay, so get out there and do what he’s called you to do. Alright now. If you’re a man who is looking for greater spiritual guidance and to how to be a better leader, finding resources that you can trust, never mind implementing, can be daunting for me personally. I thought it was a lost cause, so I decided to take action because I knew that I couldn’t be alone. That’s why we created the lion within us community in the areas that we were helping other Christian men grow in are incredible. For instance, we built easy ways for guys to lean in and grow through fun events like our daily spiritual kickoff, where you’ll get that much needed boost directly from God’s word. Our Bible studies that focuses on how to simplify and apply God’s word to our life, and even our amazing form when you can speak your mind without fear of getting shut down or judged by the extreme rules of modern-day social media. On top of all that, we knew that many men won’t help overcoming issues and becoming stronger in many different areas. That’s why we created semester mind groups where their iron truly sharpens to iron.
Really, our community is all about having a growth mindset. It’s about accountability, intentionality and transparency. In other words, just leave fake you at home and come into the community just as you are. I fully believe in what we’ve built.
