Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian man who will hunger to be the leaders God attends you to be.
I’m your host, chris Granger. Let’s jump in. All right, guys, this is part two of our Christmas specials. Okay, so this week again. If you missed the first episode, we talked about the Old Testament. You know the predictions of Christ, the becoming Messiah.
Now for today, you know we’re on Wednesday, so if you’re listening to this, when this comes out, you know Christmas is less than a week away. It’s just around the corner. It’s going to be on Monday, so hopefully you’re getting ready, hopefully you’re excited about this time of year. I got just my Christmas shirt on the day. Look, I’m a big Christmas vacation guy. I love that movie, so I got this one on. But I think it’s so important this week as we get ready for the you know, one of the biggest days of the year that we just remember what it’s all about, and that’s why I went for this week for an Alliant with Dennis week. We didn’t do any guests, but we’re not doing any. You know the traditional podcast. We just want to slow down and just let God’s word just speak to us and just simply just soak in God’s word. Okay, so let’s get into it. Fellas, let’s see right here as we, as we start off, we’re going to be in the books of Luke, the book of Matthew, today.
Okay, and as a quick reminder for you guys as well, again, the community promotion is still going. We’d love for you to take advantage of that. What’s going on right now. This is a great opportunity, maybe for someone else as well. Maybe it’s not for you, but you want to sponsor someone else. It’s a great way to do it. It’s a great gift you can give. Let me know you can reach out, chris, at the line with NDA US. We can get you a gift certificate if you want something to actually give them for Christmas, but this is a great way to again, it can help Christian men be the leaders God intends to be. Now, if you’re a wife listening and you want to gift this for your husband, send me an email, chris, at the line with NDA US. We can definitely. We can get that taken care of for you to well, give them a gift certificate with the code and get started right away. So we’d love to hear from you. Let’s just see about that. So, again, great ways right now, because come January the promotion is going to go away, so this is just an opportunity time to take advantage. I know everyone’s looking for a savings this Christmas season. That’s why we made the promotion happen right now. I’ll just be honest with you. I love our community, I love what we’re doing within the line, within us, these guys all over the country and Canada I mean they’re just phenomenal. They’re just phenomenal guys who are out there just trying to learn, trying to grow, trying to just be better leaders, better husbands, better fathers, better, better community outreach leaders, better business men. So great chance to take advantage of that, okay. So just wanted to share that with you right now, at just out the gate. So let’s get into it. So we’ll be looking at and we’re going to kind of break this up. We’re going to bounce from Luke to Matthew, then back to Luke and back to Matthew. Okay, kind of break it up here as we go, all right. So now let’s look at verse and chapter and Luke, chapter one. Let’s start in verse 26. Okay, it says 26.
Now, in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged in a church man whose name was Joseph and in a sentence of David Other descendants of David, sorry. And the Virges name was Mary. And coming in, he said to her Greetings, favored one. The Lord is with you. But she was very perplexed at this statement and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. The angel said to her Do not be afraid, mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive and in your womb you shall bear a son and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the son of the Most High and the Lord. God will give him the throne of his father, david, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever and his kingdom will have no end. Mary said to the angel how can this be, since I am a virgin? The angel answered and said to her the Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you, and for that reason the holy child shall be called the son of God. And behold, even your relative, elizabeth, who was also conceived, the son of her old age and she who was called Baron, is now in her sixth month, for nothing will be impossible with God. And Mary said Behold, behold the bondslave of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word. And the angel departed from her.
Just absolutely, love this scripture here, fellas, as we can see what’s going on so far as the announcement of the actual birth of Jesus. So we can see that this angel, gabriel, he came, he told her what’s getting ready to happen. Can you imagine getting a message like that? I mean unbelievable, right, and we can see right here he’s laying it out and it’s giving her further proof right here that nothing is impossible with God, absolutely nothing. So maybe you’re feeling defeated right now like man. That’s just nothing going right. I’m just here to tell you there’s nothing impossible with God. I don’t know where the guys, why God has put you through this, why these things are going on in your life, rather, but I can tell you one thing there’s a purpose behind it and we can see from Mary right here, just this story, mary that everything was working out just as he designed.
Now let’s flip over to Luke Sorry, to Matthew, we were just in Luke. Let’s look over Matthew, chapter one, and let’s look at verses 18. We’re going to read 18 through 25,. Okay, this is going to be the announcement of the birth. Okay, it says.
Now, the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows His mother, mary, had been proposed to Joseph Before they came together. She was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. Now, obviously, before they came together, they had not consummated their marriage or anything like that. Right, she was still a virgin and Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for a child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, but he will save his people from their sins. Now, all of this took place to fulfill what was spoken to the Lord through the prophet. Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a son, and they shall call him Emmanuel, which translated means God with us.
Joseph awoke from the sleep and then, as an angel of the Lord, commanded him and took Mary as his wife, but kept her a virgin till she gave her birth to a son, and he called his name Jesus. So we see, that’s just a beautiful part of the story. Sometimes that part gets left out this time of year with sermons and things like that, because there’s so much to look at with the story. But again, imagine that, right, your wife, you’re engaged to her, so your fiancee, rather, is saying you know what? She pops up and she’s pregnant. Now, I wouldn’t go too good these days, right, I didn’t go too good back then either. Right, joseph was getting ready to let her go and we can see an angel stepped in. And this time the angel stepped in through the dream, right. So he spoke to him about this. Thought it’s very important. I actually underlined part of verse 24. He did as an angel of the Lord commanded him. Now, just because an angel told him that, did it make it any easier for Joseph? He did not, but he still acted with obedience. I think that’s a beautiful part of the story, particularly for us as Christian men to remember. We just need to act in obedience, what God has called us to do. Just take that step of obedience and trust his ways. Okay, trust his way. So, just, I’m so glad we were able to take the time to go unpack that piece.
Now let’s go back here to Luke, to the book of Luke. Okay, kind of him again bouncing all over the Bible guys, that’s what it’s all about and this is probably the scripture that you’ll you’ll get the most right now and I didn’t want to just do a Christmas ever. So we’re not going over this. But if you go this week and next week without hearing this scripture, I’m not sure if I may want to check that church out. Okay, cuz maybe they’re. But of course there’s other Sermons, the things they could preach, but this is the advent of the Son of man. This is very important. So I want to just take some time. Let’s just read this together and this again. You know the story most, I’m sure you do. There’s nothing like just sitting back and just letting the Holy Spirit, because you never know what he’s gonna reveal to you Each and every time that you open. His word. Remember his word is is beneficial for teaching, for a reproof, for correction and for training and righteousness, so that you can be equipped. So let’s go right. Here, says chapter Luke 2, starting in verse 1.
Now, on those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth. This was the first census taken with Canarias was governor of Syria, and everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city. Joseph always also went up from Galilee, galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, in the city of David, which is called Bethlehem Because he was of the house, the family of David, in order to register along with Mary. It was engaged to him and was with child. While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. She gave birth to her firstborn son and she wrapped him in cloths and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them.
At the end, verse 8 in the same region, there were some shepherds staying out of the flock in the fields keeping watch over their flocks by night, and an angel, the Lord, suddenly stood before them and the glory of the Lord shone around them and they were terribly frightened. But the angel said to them do not be afraid, for, behold, I bring you good news of great joy, which will be for all the people, for today, in the city of David, there’s been, there’s been born, as for you, as savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you. You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. And suddenly there appeared with the angel and multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace among men, with whom he is pleased. When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another let’s go straight to Bethlehem then and see this thing that happened, which the Lord has been known to us. So they came in a hurry and fell their way to Mary and Joseph and the baby as he lay in a manger. Well, they had seen this. They may know about the statement which had been told about them, about the child, and all who had heard it, heard it, wondered all at the things which were told to told them by the shepherds. But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart. The shepherds went back glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen and now Just said, just as had been told them.
So, guys, get one through twenty if you have. Also, if you’re just looking for some scripture, just to be honest with you, that you could just sit Down and read with your children this time of year, particularly up, maybe Christmas Eve or something like that. Instead of reading a night before Christmas, read Luke 2, 1 through 20. Just read that, you know, not knocking on the night before Christmas. Read them both if you want to, but don’t forget to leave. You know we have to bring, be intentional about bringing scripture Into the Christmas holiday, because it’s very easy to leave it out. So this is important scripture that we should, that we should read, reference, refer to and go back to there. Okay, all right, now let’s kind of look here, go back to Matthew. We’re gonna look at chapter 2 and we’re gonna look just look here at the very first 12 verses. Okay, we’re gonna see about. This is this is Matthew’s account of, of the of the baby being born. Okay, so this is just now, just effort.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea. The days of Herod the king. The Mike Magi from the east rise Jerusalem saying when is he who has been the king of Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him. When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled and all Jerusalem get. And he was troubled and all of Jerusalem with him, gathering together all the cheese, priests and scribes of the people. He inquired of them where the massage was born. They said to him in Bethlehem of the Judea. For this is what has been rented by the prophet. And you, bethlehem, landed Judah, well, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah, for out of you should come forth a ruler who will ship, who a shepherd.
My people, israel, the inherits, secretly called the magi, determined and determined from them the exact time the star appeared. They sent them to Bethlehem and said go and search carefully for the child. We have found him, report him to me so that too may come and worship him. Bet you are. And after hearing the king, they went their way and this and the star which they had seen in the east went on Before them until it came and stood over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were joy to see me, with great joy. After coming into the house, they saw a child of Mary and his mother and they fell to the ground and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And haven’t been warned by God in a dream not your return to Herod, they might. The magi left to their own country by another way.
So again, fellas, great scripture, just turn them to remember everything this time of year about the birth of Jesus to time of Jesus, what the things that we should, should worship about him. It’s just important as we, as we are Christian leaders, that we take time just to let scripture, so you know, just soak in and speak to us guys. And there’s things I could say all day long about all these scriptures. I think the most important thing to remember is what is the Holy Spirit saying to you? Was he revealing to you? I know for me, as I, as I read it more and more, I just think about Mary and how, how obedient she was probably, how scared she was right, but how she understood. She know what. This is bigger than me. You know Jesus. He came on this rescue mission to save the world and then he worked through her, absolutely. He came through her name. They’ve been, she had a major Part in all this, but the end of the day, jesus is the Messiah, he is the chosen one. Just I, just I can only imagine her and Joseph in that moment looking at a little baby boy. It just that feeling of awe, like just unbelievable emotion. So we can see that in these scriptures. I’m so thankful for Luke and for Matthew for putting this in here, because it could have been very easy just to skip over the birth and all that stuff and go straight to Jesus’ ministry. But, wow, I think just having these scriptures again for this time of year in particular, it’s so important to refer back to, to just make sure that we have these things, these truths, cemented in our life.
Okay, so hopefully, guys, you know, this is just as a quick recap for the scriptures. So that was Luke 1, 26, supe 35. That was Matthew 1, we did 18 through 25. Then we read the Christmas story, right, the Luke 2, 1 through 20. And then the last one was Matthew 2, 1 through 12. So again, we’ll try to get all those scripture references in the show. It’s for you guys out there.
But be sure to you know, just take some time this week. I know your schedules are packed, your schedule’s a jam. You always have things going on this time of year. You’re rushing, you’re frantic, you’re stressed out. Maybe the credit card’s got a little bit too much on it. You should take the time to breathe, slow down, open your Bible and just let him just speak to you, you know, just let him speak to you. You wanna hear God speak out loud? Just talk, just read the Bible out loud. Guys, that’s telling, that’s how you do it. Just taking the time to do that it forces me to just, you know, connect with him. Just by preparing for this episode, just by doing this episode. It’s just incredible how he’s just moving. He’s just given me peace right now just to work through this. Do I stumble and trip up and things like that? Yeah, but you guys are used to that by now. But about the other day, it’s all about serving him, it’s all about glorifying him and it’s all about helping you continue to grow, to be the leader that he’s called you to be. So I pray, guys, as you move forward.
If you have just something to consider here if you’ve never accepted Christ as your savior, today’s the day Again. We typically do this just on the Monday episodes, but this is a special week. So if you’ve never accepted Christ as your savior and you’re listening to all these stories and you have the head knowledge, that’s great. I love that. You know the stories now, you have the head knowledge, you know the scripture references, but have you moved into the heart, as God wants your heart and you understand, we are born with the sin nature, that black heart, and you are all sinners, including me, and everything we do falls short of glory. God, it just does. Now, compared to your buddy who’s always screwing up, yeah, you probably do, okay, but compared to a holy and righteous God, we just fall short.
So, admitting that’s so important To believing this story that Jesus came on a rescue mission for us, but actually believe this with our heart, right, it’s not just something that we read, this is real. Once you believe that, truly believe that he is the son of God, that he went to the cross and he died for you, and you confess him as your Lord and savior, man changes everything, changes everything, cause we don’t need a coach, right, you need a savior. We all do so. If you’re struggling, if you’re just just so tired of the trials, don’t know which way to go, don’t feel like anything’s gonna ever go right.
I’m just here to offer you one thing the peace that passes all understanding that’s only comes when you have a relationship with Jesus Christ as your Lord. So I pray you take advantage of that. I pray that you take action, that you don’t sit on the sidelines that you lean in, that you let Him speak to you, that you let Him guide you, that you let the Holy Spirit just come minister to you. But it starts with surrendering. So I pray that you surrender your life right now to our Lordship of Christ. Let’s pray together.
So thank you, father, for today, just thank you for your word, how you speak so clearly to us. Just pray for that one listener right now, just that one who’s ready to surrender your life to you. Lord, I pray you give them strength. They recognize they are a center of the Savior, they recognize that you are the Son of God and they commit their life to you right now. They know that they’ve done some things wrong, lord, but they know that with you you are the, the Prince of Peace, that you can, that the my counselor, that you love them. So I just pray you, just, you just comfort them right now. Give them some joy, give them some hope, let them know that if they are not defined by their past, that there is no combination for those in Christ Jesus, and that Lord Jesus point them in the right direction. I pray you put people in their life that will help God to recommend them as they make this most important decision of their life. We pray all this cordial your will in Jesus’ name, amen.
Alright, so if you just accept the Christ, congratulations. That’s probably the greatest Christmas present I could ever get as an email from you saying that you just accept the Christ by listening to the line with Dennis, same as an email Seriously, chris, at the line with themus. I want to give you a bunch of resources and things like that, but most importantly, we have a lot of guys within the line with Dennis at all over the United States Love to find out where you’re at and try to get you plugged into a community, local church, things like that to help you get started. So again, guys, if you’re enjoying this stuff this week I know it’s a different format, maybe I don’t even know who’s gonna listen we may lose a lot of listeners this week. I pray we don’t, but we may. But I encourage you. Just just share this stuff out or just take the time to Read the scriptures yourself or to your family. You know, don’t sit there and say, hey, listen this podcast, go, I don’t make any sense. They need to hear you saying that. Our Bible studies that focuses on how to simplify and apply God’s Word to our life, and even our amazing forum where you can speak your mind without fear of getting shut down or judged by the extreme rules of modern-day social media. On top of all that, we knew that many men won’t help overcoming issues and becoming stronger in many different areas. That’s why we created semester mind groups, where their iron truly sharpens to iron.
