Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I’m your host, chris Granger. Let’s jump in. All right, guys, fun Friday time. I’m excited to be here with you, so let’s dig into it together. But you know how we’re going to start, just like we do every episode of the Lion Within Us, with God’s Word.
So this week we’re in the Book of John. Okay, book of John, chapter 15, verse 4. Remain in me and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself but remain in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. Guys, I love that verse, love that scripture Right here Jesus telling us he is divine. We need to understand it, god. We need to remain in him. You do that by being connected to him in his Word, constant prayer, asking him to God and direct you, and then be obedient to what the Spirit tells you to do. Tell us that can be some of the hardest thing for us, as Christian men, to do is just actually be obedient. So go back, listen to the spiritual kickoff. If you missed it, really try to share some truths there that are going to be encouraging you. That’s going to give you some insights as well as you move forward.
And, guys, as that led into the spiritual kickoff, the episode after that was we talked about the bold pursuit and how we can have, how we should be rather seeking the heart of God, and we had Daniel Merritt in and he was just a water powerful conversation. I absolutely loved that time with Daniel and the information that he shared was just phenomenal. So hopefully you guys go back to check that out. He talked a lot about how we should always be putting God first and what that actually practically looks like in our life, and he talked about radical discipleship and how we can’t just be pew sitters, fellas. We have to get out there and do the work that he’s called us to do. And one of our members of our community, lonnie he always talks about how you cannot stand pew sitters. He’s meant to do stuff and you know what we need to remember that you have an opportunity today, wherever you’re at, make an impact for the kingdom. And again, this is not some secular versus ministry divide. No, god’s called you to do whatever your role is. He’s called you to do his work, so seek ways to do it. But I really enjoyed that conversation with Daniel. I hope you guys go back and check it out. And he’s in South Africa. It was a fun fact. I found out after we were talking a while after we recorded that he’s moving to the US. So then hopefully next year he’ll be moving to the States. So looking forward to having him there. So go check out everything he’s doing.
The DLM Christian lifestyle pretty neat with the way that they’re approaching it and how they’re spreading God’s word. So okay, but now on Friday time, you know we’re going to get into fellas, we’re going to get into some tips of the week. So we’ve got a health tip, a well tip and a self tip for your new listeners out there that help us your mind and body. How do we have stronger minds and bodies to do what he’s called us to do? Well tips, career finances. So ultimately this comes down to stewardship. How are we stewarding what God’s providing us in the forms of our wealth? And a self tip being better husbands and dads. Okay, and if you do all that stuff, you’re going to be a better leader and it’s going to transfer into the work you’re doing in your professional career and as you lead your community, as you lead your family, and so on. So let’s get right into our health tip. Okay, the health tips.
Since Daniel sent me this book I thought this was a health tip was really applies well, as this book is a 90 day devotional and I’m just here to tell you fellas, daily devotionals. They’re great ways to strengthen your faith. Okay, free Divos like the one from Daniel here, or where you can get in here and read this 90 days, or the ones that you get on you version they’re great Because a lot of it can take their hurdle away and it can let you focus on an area that has specific interests. Okay, now, we have lots of devotions on you versions. You know, at the time when this comes out I’m not sure how many, because we have a lot there in processor and queue I know we have at least a dozen, if not more. Prayerfully, about the time this comes out, we’ll be making close to 15 or 20, who knows. But there’s lots of ways that you can get in and strengthen that armor, strengthen and sharpen that sword by just spending time with him. And I’ll tell you what.
If you have situations in your life, here’s a couple of instances that we’ve created devotions over how to lead your wife. We all need to know that, right? What do you do when trials occur? How about that? How can you be a better steward? I recently wrote one about well, all people get to heaven. That’s interesting, right, it’s talking about controversial. So it’s just, there’s lots of devotions out there, particularly from the ones we did in the line with Dennis, that you should check out.
Now, if you don’t use you version, that’s fine. I’m just promoting you version because we’re on it and it’s free and it’s a great way to really dig into God’s word. So, again, you want to check out any of the plans that we did? You can go to the line within the US slash you version. You’ll find a link right there on the main page under resources. You can see all the different devotions that we have. Again, they’re all free, they’re all available to you. They’re all designed from a Christian man leadership standpoint. Hopefully you guys enjoy them. Okay, all right, now your well tip.
I want you to think about this Understand your risk tolerance. You need to adjust that as necessary because as things happen in life, things change. Right, your risk tolerance moves, and risk tolerance All that is fellas is volatility. That’s how much volatility do you want to have in your investments, and this needs to be taken into consideration. The younger you are, usually the more volatile, the more risk you can handle, right? Why? Because you have time to overcome it. So if you’re a young dude, you’re out there and you’re not married unless, say, you’re less than 30 years old and you don’t have you’re just taking care of yourself from a finance standpoint, right now you have a lot, a pretty high risk tolerance. You can afford more versus if you’re maybe you’re in your early fifties, you still have kids, you have dependents, you’re trying to get towards retirement. You have this goal. You may not want to put your risk tolerance that’s quite as high. So you need to understand these things.
Change Consensus of life, change right Marriage, children, mortgages, other items, right Health all these things impact our risk tolerance. So, to make the adjustments, adjust where necessarily. Now, if you’re an after just a risk taker, hey, make sure your spouse is on board, right? We want to make sure that we’re very we’re as close as a loan as we can when it comes to finances, as we can with our spouses. But I get it, some of you guys may just be risk takers and you just want to be that way all the time. But make sure you’re having those conversations. But just adjust it, because if you’re sitting there and you have a high-risk situation and your investments are high-risk as well and you didn’t change it because it’s been 20 years since you looked at your investments, you may want to take some time, slow down, just understand your risk tolerance and make those changes as necessary. Okay Now, self-tip couple devotionals and Bible studies.
They’re great ways to grow your relationship. So maybe you want to find a topic or an area that you want to explore with your spouse. Right, do it. Enjoy the process. Don’t worry about what you don’t know about or where she does know. Just study God’s word, prioritize that and find that. That’s a great way you can strengthen your bond with your spouse and you’ll never know how much you’ll be able to grow together until you start studying God’s word.
Some of my favorite times with Becca is when we just I have a question on the Bible and we’ll just sit there and she’s like him and my Bible and we’ll start digging through the word together and it’s just fun For me. It’s fun to do that with her. I got to be more intentional about doing stuff like this. But you know what? Don’t make any excuses. Don’t use the I don’t know enough like. Come on now, lean in, let the Holy Spirit guide you. That’s the whole part of growing and strengthening.
What did Daniel talk so much about, guys, is you have to focus on growth. You cannot outsource this, and if you’re growing together as a couple and you’re using God’s word, you’re letting God’s word guide and direct you. I’m telling you, fellas, you’re going to strengthen your relationship so much more than anything you could ever do at any marriage counseling or couple’s therapy, any of that stuff While all that stuff can help. For sure you want to strengthen your marriage. You put the Holy Spirit at the center. You both pursue Jesus independently. You’re pursuing Jesus. Then you are obedient, as a couple, to what he’s called you to do. That is a formula for a powerful, successful, strong marriage. That’s what I pray the most for you. So there you go, fellas. You got your health, wealth and self-tip that health tip as a reminder. You need to consider daily devotionals for your personal growth. Okay, wealth tip Think about that risk tolerance and make those adjustments. And your self-tip incorporate couple devotionals and Bible studies as you grow as a married couple within your covenant of your marriage. Okay, all right, fellas. So there you go.
So now, book of the week. You’ve heard me talk about it several times for people that are watching on YouTube, here it is. It’s bold pursuit. Love this. A 90-day devotional for men seeking the heart of God, written by Danny Merritts.
Again, love everything Daniel’s doing over at DLM Christian Lifestyle. The way he hit this thing is laid out Just kind of give you an insight here. It’s pretty topical in some ways. Like I just opened it up, day 59, a godly response to scandal. He gives you a scripture reference. He gives a kind of like a high-level overview of it. But then he has a section for each day that’s called Dig Deep, and the Dig Deep is really a great way, if you’re doing this as a study with others, to where you can drop the plow and really to see, okay, what does this mean for you. So it’s really a personal Dig Deep. So I really like how he laid this out. Lots of good insights here. So, again, check that out. Bold pursuit. We’ll have a link in the show that’s free as well, as you guys want to check that out.
Okay, all right, now let’s get into our dad jokes. I know we’ve got a lot of guys who like the dad jokes on our fun Fridays. So, dad joke number one why did the gargoyle quit his job? Well, he was tired of being taken for granted. I thought you guys want to know that one. Come on now. So that’s number one. Number two why do nurses carry red crayons in case they need to draw blood? I mean, come on, that should be a given as well. So let us know if those which one number one or number two? Number one why did the gargoyle quit his day job? Well, he was tired of being taken for granted. Number two why do nurses carry red crayons in case they need to draw blood? So, just let us know which one. Remember, I rolls totally count, it’s okay. And just, if you have a dad joke you want to submit, connect with us inside our community, at the line, within us. You can also connect with us on social media. Love to get your dad jokes and submit them. If we use yours, we’ll give you a shout out on a show, okay.
So the question we talked about this week is very simple Is your pursuit of God bold or cold? Okay, now he can go through seasons. I’m going to tell you, not every day, for me as it in my own fire and doing everything that I should be doing. I’m trying, but some days it’s just not right. But overall, our pursuit of him and following him needs to be bold. It means you’re going to have to do some things that you’re not going to want to do. It’s going to probably be uncomfortable at times, but you know what it’s. During those moments, fellas, I promise you, during those moments of uncomfort, you will grow the most.
It is not comfortable. Every time we cut this mic on and record do what God’s called me to do. It’s never gotten comfortable, never. It’s always difficult. There’s always a lot of pressure. You know what? I won’t do it Each and every week, as long as God calls me to do it, because this is what he’s called me to pursue. Now I don’t know what he’s called you to pursue, but you do. So I encourage you. Take steps of obedience, do what he’s called you to do. You’ll never make a bad decision. Okay, it won’t be easy, but it’d be right. Okay, guys, I want you to think about that. Your personal pursuit Is it cold? Is it bold? I want you to do all you can I just encourage you to do all you can to move the needle, move towards that bold pursuit of him. Okay, so, fellas, hopefully you enjoyed the episodes this week. If you did, please give us a rating and review. Check. You know that’s awesome.
